UP THE RIVER 2006

I like to try and be humble once in a while.... :kid_content: But, that being said, I'm terribly thrilled by that win, easily a high point of my limited comp career. I was smiling the whole way home! Wait, I still am! One other thing that worked well was once we'd established a no boundaries rule, I made a mental note of exactly where I could stand on the floor to pull the Rev over my head and have it stop inches from the judge's noses. ZoooooooooooooSTOP

And ya, I'll echo other's remarks and thank everyone involved with the Up The Wind Festival, it was a reeeeeeally great time from start to finish. And as always, the people who were at the fest are second to none. I miss festivals in the winter just because I like the people I get to hang around with. Kite people are good people.

I'm marking this fest onto next years calendar for a repeat visit.

YUP... it was a blast

BTW.... monkey man... it is UP THE RIVER! and YES... we will be on for next year... same bat time, same bat place.

with enough encouragement and oportunities... NYRO(stephanie) will fly solo... keep up the good work

I am still smiling that I beat JOHN in hot tricks(thanks to ARI's inspiration).... to heck with winning... that tops my hot trick accomplishment list as of yet.

the next time I can.. I will make good on my sushi offer.. I am just glad YAMAMOTOSON did not have to be there for my equipment malfunction. what is the [plan for evenings at lincoln city... they are kicking us out at 5-ish right? hmm... that leaves me time to make some more sushi in the land of fish and fun!

and yes...KUDOS to all who helped with the festival and all who drove so far to fly in the HONKER DOME

Hell, I managed to place above John and Penny, which for me is worthy of a huge smile, having wanted to do this for years.

Alan, what you did make was reeeeeeeeeally good, I had to back away from the plate to keep from devouring it all in mere seconds!

Hugs and a big thanks to all that helped make the Up the River fest so much fun.

And to the great hospitality of our hosts... ty.

I really appreciate all the help and wisdom that I got from all of you. It made it much more fun, and a bit less nervewracking.. ok.. not less nerve wracking.. but lol.. thats just going to take me some getting used to. I had a wonderful time.

And, just so I wouldn't forget what I had learned.... I headed to the gym at 5 am this morning .... and by gosh Kyle... I am gonna get that move yet... lol hugs.

OK media FREAKS and FRENZIES

as I am told.. this type of media coverage comes easier as the events build

in Monday's The Dalles Chronicle

The Dalles Chronicle home page monday 2-13

KYLE and his orange and black WREN made the cover above the fold

on page 10 (the ENTIRE back page in full color) THREE-3 pictures of JOHN and his VIP, 1 picture of PENNY and her puppet handles, MOUSSIE with her purple kite, a profile of Monkeyboy, and 2 kids learning how to fly UFO's

in Sunday's EASTERN OREGONIAN

a nice picture of PENNY and her one handed rev...teaching of course

not to mention some good radio time on 5 stations in the dalles/hood river area.

some minor errors in reporting... still good advertising

I read the card again... thanks it was really cool!

Heh, the Eastern had it as the wrong name for KL

Can you get a scan on the other pages too? Pretty cool coverage, thats 100 times what a Vancouver paper would do for a kite festival

And boy is Jerry ever pounding back that water in the background of the kyle picture! :kid_content:

We're glad you like the card Allen.

Hey, I can't get past Kyle's picture. Do we have to pay $10.00 to see these?

BB

Penny

$10? no... evidently the chronicle web page is a teaser.. not the full article

I do not subscribe.. they gave me a few copies last night when I returned their photographers camera bag... he was so impressed by the flying he forgot his lense bag!

maybe I could scan the newspaper images and upload for your viewing pleasure... is that illegal? I will ask forgiveness rather than permission.

LOL

the EO has me launching the big bird... but the caption implies I am landing it (into the hardwood) no matter

had a few calls... people didnt know it was on... HEHE

DUH it was only everywhere.. but that is how it goes... more people and event coverage next year... got an in on the media in the dalles... and the EO is hooked now.

now the big fish... the OREGONIAN or the SEATTLE TIMES-yeah right

OKEDOKEE... get to that this eve... maybe

video HAHA i have not even opened the bag yet.. I know it will be good I am anxious to see the 3 birds and the zero gravity flick flack with a wren. Jessica earned her money that day!

what is the concensus... quality and fewer films on the dvd or more films and a little less resolution?

last year I did all the demos and comps on one dvd... lots of good video in sub menus... animated in harry potter style.. LOL

BTW.. cait is about half way though her pictures... and about ready to start the megafly picture for eh cover of the DVD

Thanks Allen, Any chance we can get a scan of the article and can you do the same thing with the other paper? I can see the article, but not the picture. We had fun!~

BB Penny

I will try... going to get the dog from the vet... 100 miles round tri[p

just got teh last EO... the thought my kite was crashing... but it was taking off... go figure

I must harasss her a little for that

do you want me just to upload the images like I did the ther one? as long as it does not take to much space

or would you rather I add them as an attachement for our dialup bretheren

i thought also just to take a digital picture of the page

Great picture! Good Morning John!

Yeah, Monkey, I need to borrow that kite for my Keystone cop routine. :)

You know what, we need more of several people flying at the same on the floor. But not like they like you to do and get everyone out on the floor at the same time. lol Not always fun.

Oh, John, I forgot to tell you Steve says you've really improved this last year. :) Practice tells... doesn't it. He doesn't usually say much, so that was quite a compliment.

Man, if you don't crash you win.. and you went for the gusto. We really enjoyed watching it. It's so difficult to capture the fluidity of a kite on film, but the cameraman that took those pictures caught the intensity in your face, as well as the kids excitement. Didn't we all have fun?
