3D printing is also a hobby of mine,,,designed and printed some end caps with a pocket for the knot. I think they will help me with some of the snags. They are a little larger and about a gram heavier than the normal ones. Will be a little more difficult to adjust tension because the tails on the knots need to be removed. Made some LE tees with angle to match the kite, printed on left. Whats cool about printing these parts is the frame size or most any other parameters can be easily adjusted. What do you folks think ... I may be putting some of these files on Thingiverse at a later date, not sure, still tweaking them now. Ej

I discovered kiting about 9 months ago during lockdown here in Australia and have been building up a collection of kites since - my favourites so far are a couple of Top of The Line Hawaiians I picked up second-hand. For the rat's nest (I called them bird's nests) I'll only say. Stop threading the needle with the presser foot down. Trust me. That's the trigger that causes the nest underneath. FWIW, That's not bobbin thread. it comes from the spool. The other issue is If you are using basting tape. You need to clean the needle regularly with Goo Gone or Sew-Eeze.. I clean my machine every bobbin. And My machine is nowhere near heavy duty. Lastly only bonded thread. the fuzzy stuff catches the gummy way too easily and that causes the majority of your missed stitches.. Avoid cotton thread. Use 100% Poly Bonded thread. (I like size V30.) I you are making something big, Consider V46.

Thanks for the add. Bought my first two-line from a kite store on Padre Island in 1999. My wife and I went crazy at the start, bought all kinds of kites, including many original Joel Scholz. Funny now all I fly are my one or two favorites.

I am coming back from the dead and reviving this thread from the dead as well. I put down the handles for a few years as life took over. Also, I moved to Portland and found it difficult to find a good field nearby. Is Broughton Beach still considered a good place to fly? I just can't make the trip to the coast regularly for an all day fly. For $5 for all day parking, I think Broughton Beach is a bargain.
