You were right on with weight. Just heard back from Keegan at Prism... Zephyr weighs in at roughly 10.4oz or 295gr without tail weight or yo yo stoppers.

I think you'll find once you go big you wont want to go back, that's how I feel anyway. My first kite was the Nexus, but ever since I received the Quantum, the Nexus sits and gains dust...that's why its up for sale. But everyone's different. I have heard the smaller kites are great for higher wind days when you just want to rip the sky. And as for the micron, it is not for the faint of heart lol. To quote Prism, “Lightning-fast on breezy days. Not for beginners!”. My lines came out of the case equalized as well, but need to do some equalizing now that I have flown a few times...not much though. Best place for specs is going to be Prism. It’s their kite, so I will assume that they know best. I find that a lot of specialty kite stores and sites have mixed information for some reason. This certainly makes things confusing for newbs like us. When I come across this, I shoot a quick email to the manufacture for the true info. Have not run across one that does not response pretty quickly.

After many questions, lots of answers, opinions and advice, I placed my order for a Prism Zephyr in the Citrus colorway last night!! I just couldn't pass up the great deal that I found. $137 all in...every kite shop I went to had this kite for $211+tax which means a 39% savings for me!! How can I go wrong?!?! Pics and Review to come Thanks to everyone that took the time to offer their knowledge, opinions and advice. Love this forum! -

Welcome to the forum. Guess it has been about a month and a half now since I was bitten by the bug. Looking back to my original thoughts about kites and kite flying...its night and day. I won't bore you with my kite story, but I posted it under my Introduction if you are so inclined. Loads of information here and there is no shortage of experts that are willing to pass along their knowledge, experiences and advice. I have asked a lot and learned a lot in the short time that I have been a member here at KiteLife. But for me, that is part of the fun with a hobby...the questions, the answers, the difference in opinions, the research, I love it all. Just an FYI there is another forum that is pretty good as well...GWTW. Endless amounts of information when you pull the two together. And since you are taking it slow, don't forget to check out the Swap Meet in both of these forums. There are some quality, gently used kites that can be had if you keep a look out...this includes Quads. But they go fast depending. Well again...Welcome

She is a beauty. Love the Citrus colorway. Don't you just love that massive size...just about 8'?!?! Just placed an order for the Prism Zephyr last night. Found an amazing deal that I couldn't pass up. She will be my designated low wind kite, and the kite that I develop my trick skills with when the time is right. Zephyr is the same size @ 94", and can't wait to see what she looks like in the air. And as I said before, another kite will be in order so I am not always flying the Anniversary SE Quantum. Would hate if something happened to it. So, it will be another Quantum in a different color, or the Hypnotist. That's a discussion for another time though. Just an FYI - my local kite shop took those same clip off the Nexus I purchased. I forget her exact reasoning, but she did mention something about the possibility of pin holes. Not sure how this would happen. I left them on my Quantum because they seem so convenient, but will most likely remove as well. Kudos on your beautiful kite, and good luck. I'm pretty sure the lines that came with the Prism Quantum are quality lines...Dyneema 90#. I could be wrong though.
-
What an interesting design.

Second Vapor released was Blue as pictured, and available exclusively through Kites & Puppets in Vancouver, BC. Kudos grabbing one of the 10 released

This is true. The weight of the pull is being distributed between two lines giving double the strength. I tend to fly at the beach 99% of the time. I live at the shore and it provides the most wind and cleanest wind...especially when the winds are from the N S or E. But winds can pick up pretty quickly and dragging line across the sand for a couple hours...just not sure 50# is going to be the best choice for my flying conditions. Guess good ol trial and error will be key here.
-
Are 50# lines that fragile? Why would anyone choose to fly with them?
-
I'm thinking 75'-100'. This is what I usually fly, this is what I like.
-
How important is it to have 50lb line for light winds. I am going to be picking up a low wind kite soon, and will need to purchase line to go with it. I have been back and forth between 50lb and 90lb. I fly 150lb with my Quantum when the winds pick up...usually 13 and above, but have no problem using 90lb for the 8-12 range. Do you really need to drop down to 50 for the 2-7 range? Does it really make that much of a difference with drag?

Everyone really seems to love his kites. Out of all the kites out there, I feel like his are the ones that get the most attention. Certainly wish I had the money to get in on one instead of settling on a kite I can afford. By the time I have $400-$500 to spend it'll be next year lol. Christmas will be here soon enough though Gorgeous kite man. One of my favorite color combinations...Yellow, Black & Red, Red being my favorite color in general. What's with the face in most of his kites? Is that his thing, I guess?

Hoping to have a low wind kite to add to this post soon

My local kite shop does not have this. And as far as I can tell, the link you posted here is to one of the few places that seems to carry this type of brake. Thanks for the info, Ill reach out and order from TheKiteShoppe.com

There's more on FB about the AC than Lams website. - I don't have a FB, stopped using that many years ago lol An 8 footer will be "slower" than the same kite as a seven footer. - Understood

3-7 mph is exactly what I am looking for. I am not into no wind or indoor flying. So anything less, like your boy, I'm sitting out. But when I head to the beach, put up my Quantum, and it flutters to the ground, I'd like to have a kite with me that I can put up and keep the fun going...if that makes any sense. That's about as serious as I am going to get with low wind for right now. I am surprised though to hear that your boy is bored with the Zephyr, and needed to look else where for a trickable kite. Everything I read states that the Zephyr is the epitome of trick ability...yo yo stoppers, adjustable no snag leech line, adjustable bridle, spine weights. Something he doesn't like about the Zephyr?

Thanks man, I really appreciate the info! Wonder what "soon" means. In my mind that can be anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. I saw that the kite was also an SUL not a UL, which is what the Acrobatx & Silver Fox's are. From what I see, often times when you go from UL to SUL you give up some mass in the kite, which is why I am looking for a UL. Something that is light enough for low winds but still gives you some feedback...wingspan of about 7 or 8 feet would do. I looked on Lams sight and didn't see anything called the AC?
-
I've heard his kites are amazing. But funds are limited. I wonder when the Gen 2 will be released and for how much.
-
Figured you'd say that lol im glad you like it that much because I love Prism kites and have had my eye on the Zephyr. Low wind...3-7mph? I'd like that Too.
-
Thanks for the info...much appreciated. What are vinyl endcaps? And I have seen individuals talk about removing the upper spreader, but how would this work? Don't you need to keep the upper spreader for the kites shape? Any input on the Zephyr low wind capabilities? And you wouldn't want to part with that inferno would you??
-
Yes, that seems to be the consensus regarding the Silver Fox Kites. I see the trees and grass in a constant breeze, but doesn't look like too much. And it looks like that is a 2nd Gen Silver Fox that Flying Wings will be releasing soon...SUL instead of UL as well. Wonder if I should wait to see what they come out with.

I am still learning the differences in carbons. I've seen all sorts of descriptions that different kite designers use...Pultruded, Wrapped, P100, P300, 3PT, Dynamic T12 & T15 etc...all very confusing. But, for me, this is part of the fun in a hobby. I love the research and learning part of the process. Its fun to wonder and then get your answers from research or questions.
