  1. I was kinda thinking the same thing about the price with free 3 day priority shipping. If the seller is legit, and it looks like he certainly is, it's a hard price to pass up. Especially since it fits my criteria in both price point and quality...less how "techy" it is. I emailed him because it looks like he has quite a few kites, a lot that may be quality for good prices. Said he is liquidating for retirement...whatever that means lol. Anyway, my final question on the Zephyr is this - For now, if I purchase, can I use the Zephyr strictly as my low wind kite and nothing more? Then as I progress start learning about what all of the different adjustments are for and how to properly use/adjust them? Thank you for the advice btw...very much appreciated. I also found some more info on the Spectre Low Wind Stunt Kite by Into The Wind that I posted about. It's in the same General Sport Kite area if you want to take a look. I was contemplating purchasing it as my low wind kite before I saw the Zephyr. Guess I still am thinking of it. Looks like a decent kite for the money...$129. Could prob get it cheaper from my local shop given that its not a kite they make anymore
  2. Found some info on the Spectre Low Wind Stunt Kite by Into The Wind: The Spectre from Into the Wind is a light wind kite that has been designed with just enough mass to do tricks that other light wind kites can't: pancakes, rollups, backspins, and more. It's a responsive kite with a fairly wide wind range for a light wind 2-Liner. Very predictable flight, with an easy, linear response to pull. Ready to Fly with 80ft x 100lbs Dyneema lines, straps and winder in a robust Carry-Case. Wing Span – 85” Wind Range – 2–12 MPH Frame – 4mm + 6mm Pultruded Carbon Lower Spreader – Wrapped Tapered Carbon Sail - .05 oz Ripstop Polyester Lines – 80’ X 100 lbs Dyneema Thoughts??
  3. @makatakam Thanks, appreciate the heads up. @kinsman gave me the inside info as to what BKF is and that this is more a collectors edition than a flyer.
  4. Honestly, I haven't found one under $210 new or used. Actually, I retract that statement, I have found ONE, on Ebay for $148 brand new. But I'm hesitant because its not really a color that I like, Orca, and not sure about buying a kite like this from Ebay, however, the seller does have 100% feedback, and a lot of it. I guess after doing a lot of research what I am more concerned about is the fact that the Zephyr may be too fancy and sophisticated for what I'm looking for right now...with all of its adjustable spine weight, adjustable bridle, adjustable leech line, yo yo stoppers. I wouldn't know how to adjust all that stuff even if I wanted to and don't know what half of it is for. Guess you could say it is too much kite for me lol. As I said, I just want something that will fly when the Quantum won't. Which seems to be proving difficult, but that's prob because of my budget. I do love Prism Kites though, and have had my eye on the E3 & Zephyr from the moment I was introduced to kiting. Just figured they would be kites I would purchase a year from now lol.
  5. I agree!! Though I'm a bit biased given that the Quantum is one of only two kites I own thus far. But I love the size, I love the response I get when the wind kicks up a bit, and I love how smooth it fly's. Kudos to Prism
  6. Gotta love the elderly, and those who just don't get it . Was nice though how she enjoyed your flying. I've only been doing this little more than a month and people are constantly stopping to watch me fly, taking pictures, and have received so many compliments on how awesome the kite is, or how beautiful. Then you have the kids with all there ooo's, ahhh's, and wow's. Kiting is just good clean wholesome fun.
  7. Is this kite still available?
  8. Not at all too much information. That is why I love this forum. So many people who are experience, who have done their research and don't mind sharing. Lots of good kite suggestions. I really appreciate the time you took to put it together. Ill take a look at it and let everyone know what I decide on. Quite honestly, given my low/light wind kite criteria, preference and budget, I may go with the ITW Spectre Cobra Kites showed me over the weekend. I don't know much about it, and haven't received any replies on my post regarding the Spectre thus far. Most likely because no one has any experience with this particular kite. So I have an email to ITW asking for any specs that they can dig up. If its the right sail and frame material...I'm sold at $128
  9. I'm just looking for a kite that will fly in 2-7mph winds when my Quantum will not. Not expecting the low wind kite to be a zero wind kite, because I don't want to have to coax too much, and not expecting it to allow me to do a ton, just keep the fun going...if that makes sense. This way I don't have to pack up and go home lol. And of course, it always comes down to the money. At this point, with my skill level and experience, I'm looking to stay under $150. Someday, when I am more confident, a custom made might just be in the cards
  10. I think I am too new to understand or know what my style and preferences are. Not sure how to answer that yet, still trying to figure it all out. At this point I'm just looking for a kite that will fly in 2-7mph winds when my Quantum will not. Not expecting the low wind kite to be a zero wind kite, and not expecting it to allow me to do a ton, just keep the fun going...if that makes sense. This way I don't have to pack up and go home lol. I have a few in mind, just didn't know if they would fit what I am looking for, or do what I want. Hence the other post I have as well regarding the Zephyr and Kymera.
  11. Thanks for the info, but looks like it's priced at about $300, which is out of mr price range. Looking for $150 and below...thanks again though!!
  12. Thanks for the info, but the cheapest I've found the shadow for is $200, which is out of mr price range. Looking for $150 and below...thanks again though!!
  13. That's what I'm looking for. Something that will fly in 2-7mph when the Quantum won't.
  14. Anyone have any low wind kite suggestions? Preferable a kite that has a 6ft or more wing span. Looking to spend $150 or less.
  15. Anyone have any experience with the Into The Wind Spectre or HQ Stratus as their kite for low wind conditions?
  16. Thank you for the info, this is exactly what I am looking for. I was afraid that the great deal on the Kymera was clouding my judgement, and wanted to hit the forum before I made a decision. I didnt think that one would chose the Kymera as their low wind kite, and that means one shouldn't chose the Zephyr either given the fact that they are both so similar in materials, craftsmanship and price. I have seen the NikNak recommended, but honestly, Its just not my preference as far as the design is concerned, which is the same reason that since I have posted this, I have decided against the 4d. I am leaning towards the Into the Wind Spectre and the HQ Stratus.
  17. Ok, I have some questions regarding a, soon to be, new kite purchase. I am researching low wind kites and have come across 2. One that I came across in my own research, and one that was shown to me today while visiting my local specialty kite shop, Cobra Kites. They are the Prism Zephyr and the infamous Into The Wind KYMERA. The general question is about low wind kite choice and any experience with these two kites including their low wind capabilities. I know they are both top of the line kites that are customizable for trickery, but I wasn't sure I should buy either of them to fill my need for a low wind kite. As always, any advice and recommendations are welcome.
  18. Not of the 25 year anniversary. There have been different special editions over the years, but the 25 Year Anniversary Special Edition only comes in the original Radian colorway. The Radian was Prisms first stunt kite..."the kite that started it all"
  19. Haha, nothing wrong with that

  23. Wow, so many responses, so much information. @riffclown, @makatakam, @SHBKF, @Barry Taylor, @SparkieRob, @KansasFlier, @Tim P., @Exult, WayneDowler @Mikelp3586 thanks so much for all the info. Much appreciated, but I fear that I am more confused then when I posed my question, or maybe it's just that I have more questions now...same thing I guess. The consensus that I am pulling from all of the info provided is wind and preference are the main reasons for having multiple kites. But these reasons, especially the wind, pose more questions then it answers; What is considered to be Light, Moderate and Strong winds? I would venture to say that Light winds would be 1-7, Moderate(also knows as the perfect wind speed) would be 8-12, and strong would be 13-??...all give or take of course. How can you be sure what kites will perform best in any given wind? Its obvious in my short experience thus far that you cannot take the manufacture specs regarding wind range capabilities as a true guide, only as a VERY ROUGH estimate. If I use the Nexus and Quantum as examples, the manufacture states the wind range on both of these kites at 3 & 4 mph - 22 & 25 mph respectively. This has certainly proven inaccurate, or maybe I am just ignorant to what "flying" in low wind actually means. When I see 3-4mph I assume, again maybe naively, that one would have to do very little to keep the kite in the air since the kite is rated for that wind range. However, when flying in these wind conditions I seem to have to do a lot of finagling and walking to keep the kite aloft. It could also be that I am just a bad judge of wind speeds at this point. Weather apps also seem to be highly inaccurate because every time I have tried to fly the app states the wind to be @ 8 mph or stronger. So maybe what I thought to be strong enough winds were actually not even close. But as I compose this response, I am thinking that what is actually meant by 3-4mph is the ability to keep the kite aloft while doing a lot of finagling and walking. Because technically while doing these two things the kite is in the air, its just not staying aloft as easily as it would in stronger winds. And what about strong winds? What does a kite performing well in strong winds look like? Seems like the kites that I have perform well across moderate and strong wind ranges. But are we simply talking about kites that are designed and built well enough to handle strong winds without any type of undue stress or breakage? If so I think that both the Nexus and Quantum fit this criteria as I have flown them both in what I would consider to be some gusty windy shore days. So of course points 2 & 3 bring me to the question…If I have a kite that is considered to perform well in moderate to strong winds, and I have nothing for low winds, what are some of the best kites for low winds? Each kite website that I have been to seems to mention the same kite over and over when it comes to low wind…Prism 4d. I have seen some of HQ’s low wind kites listed as well…like the Stratus. Any recommendation on a low wind kite in the $125 & under price range? Preferably low wind kites that are actually owned and flew on a regular basis. And my final question is the same one that I originally asked regarding the necessity for two kites that do the same things. If we have established that neither the Nexus nor the Quantum are preferable kites for low wind conditions, and that I would need to purchase such a kite, is there a reason, other than preference, addiction hoarding lol and allowing others to practice on a kite I have no attachment to, that I would keep the Nexus? Because I love the size of the Quantum, the pull and feedback that I get when it is in the air, and how smooth it flies, I am afraid that the Nexus will just sit and grow dust, because again, if both kites do well in moderate to strong winds, then there would never be a reason that I would chose to fly the Nexus over the Quantum. The Quantum is such a better flying kite by far. The only difference I have noticed so far, and to quote Prism, is how “quick, agile and radical” the Nexus is compared to the Quantum. But again, I love the solid pull and smoother feel of the Quantum. I’m not really about the speedy kite flying. So are there specific things that can be done or learned on either kite that you cant with the other? Are there specific advantages in having a small, lighter hybrid kite(Nexus 5ft wing span / .9375lbs / Pultruded Carbon/Fiberglass) vs. a larger, heavier carbon kite(Quantum 7ft wing span / 1.5625lbs / .098 Pultruded Carbon)? I know a lot of this may be trial and error, especially when it comes to wind and kites that compliment that wind, but without having the budget to back it given the cost of each kite, I am trying to make intelligent decisions on each kite I pic. As I get into it, then I can decide based more on in-depth knowledge of this hobby and simple design/color preferences. For now I just want to have 2 or three kites that will keep me flying consistently. And I don’t even want to get into Quads, line sets or anything else for that matter, because I am afraid that my head will explode . I think it best to stick with the above for now . But thanks again for all the info and advice. Certainly much appreciated. I feel very welcomed to the forum.
  24. I certainly plan on getting the 75' tube tail by prism, just figured I'd wait and practice a bit more before I do. Heard a tube tail can make things a bit more difficult. But I do have a few of the 40' Nylon tails by Prism in various colors to match my kites. They are fun and mesmerizing to watch while flying.
  25. @Mikelp3586 @makatakam I love the Quantum too. And the color certainly is striking in the air.
