  1. I didn't want make a new thread on an old topic, so here's a thread revival question or two - NOTE FROM ADMIN: This post was split off from its original thread (link below) to allow a new line of conversation for our newest members. I read just most of the posts in this thread and I am left feeling like after 8-9 years of flying, I still don't fly with enough brake! I remember changing my style a few years back and finding what I felt like was more neutral space/control after acquiring new leaders... but learning that JB runs a 10" top/bottom difference or '10" of brake' is insane! 😳 Quite a few other guys mentioned closer to 5-6" of brake... which is twice or three times more than what Im normally flying on lighter days. I just measured where my JB handles/leaders were after a relatively light 8-10mph wind day and im at 2.25" of brake on my vintage Rev 1.5 full sail. Lines are equalized. I had a fun day flying, all directions, clean hovers, good speed control, easy turns and spins, lots of inverted hovers, slides + backwards practice, tip drags & inverted slides in the ocean, etc... I did do a good bit of walking backwards to keep up in the lighter wind but - I always felt like pulling the top line in gave me a bit more power in light wind? but this thread makes me feel like I've got that feeling backwards... More brake (moving further out on the top line) would give me better control/sail on light days? (Once Im off the ground, sounds like takeoff will require more effort) Is that what yall mean when we talk about 'squaring up' to the wind? So the leading edge would be effectively higher/further away, allowing more air to fill the sail? After reading all this and the mention of oversheeting above, which I have noticed a little bit of - I think I could benefit from more brake, which means a solid double whomp take off strategy and more mid-flight whompage as well. My question for JB would be why not sell your leader kits with even more length on the top line? Allowing one to get out past 6" of brake? Is that realm just for alien whompers like you? 😉 I really enjoy understanding the technical side of tuning and flying so I appreciate all the amazing posts and information in this thread! Let me know if Ive got my head in the right place with this or I am missing something or confusing the strategy here. 🙏
  2. Amazing! Thanks BT! that's definitely the kite! Explains the weird bridal too, I'll keep an eye out for some extra handles. Certainly interested to fly this thing now! The descriptions of the TC Ultra online remind me of what most folks say about my motorcycle - Kawi KLR650, is commonly referred to as "the Mule" because it'll do just about anything, but specializes in nothing.
  3. Great info SegelFlieger, I noticed this soon after a starting flying, or at that point, crashing quads. 🫣 I was going to use some tear-aid but I like your multi-layered approach!
  4. Just received and installed my KIteForge leaders last night! I am super stoked, I ordered a pair of JB 13" handles with the leads installed and 2 other leaders sets to modify my Rev handles. Installation was easy, pulled the factory rubber caps from rev, untied the stock lines and then used a sew-all needle to pull the new leaders back through the cap - it took some time and patience to get the knots parallel and equal on both handles but I couldn't be happier. More adjustment overall and a bunch more positions to fine tune! Can't wait to try them out with my new short lines! Thanks John!
  5. I also inherited an original Hawaiian Team Kite recently. from my research most folks say they fly the same, side by side teams style the original kite is quite a bit heavier ~100g+ if my memory serves me correctly.
  6. Need help ID'ing this kite or the parts, hoping I can find or fab some replacement pieces, never seen the button snap style like this one. Am I using the correct terminology calling this a "stand-off" or is this piece a "spreader"?
  7. Hey KiteLife! I recently inherited a beautiful kite collection from my late Uncle. Our family used to own a condo down in South Padre Island and I know most of his collection came from an old kite shop down on SPI. I did a lot of research on each kite, I was impressed by the history of these kites & only one of them is missing a stand-off! TOTL Kites - Hawaiian Team Action Kites - FireDart Premier Kites - Trick & Track Prism Zero-G Glider Prism Micron -replaced fittings Rev 1.5 (OG 5-panel) -replaced bridal with modern version, original race frame. Can anyone tell me what the blue, vented dual line is? I am missing one button-snap standoff/spreader! The more I learned about this collection the more I wanted to share it with the community! I would love to hear your stories and information about these beautiful kites!
  8. Hey KiteLife! Looking to connect with flyers in the Reno/Tahoe area, as well as Sacramento and the Bay Area or up through NorCal. I'm always exploring for new spots with consistent winds, and I would be thrilled to meet some like minded folks! Hit me up! - Michael IMG_5693.HEIC
