The funny thing is that I had a chance to snag a few of those bags. We used over 90 3000# bags of a special mortar mix (slight expansion while drying and color) building the house (see below in my sig), and I don't think the mortar company would have noticed if a few didn't get returned. Who could predict that I might need a few someday?

It's going to be interesting the first time someone has a donated number win. Maybe this will be the time.

Gary looks to be a generously sized young man (he has a ways to go before he reaches MY magnificence though), but if there is a cubic yard of dry sand in that bag, he isn't adding much additional weight to the 2700# in the bag. Great set of pictures, and a warning to us all.

Might be photomom who has two numbers for this drawing: #461 and #833

This was a fun thread. Thanks for "bumping" it, Alex.

Ben Franklin considered the turkey to be a "noble bird" and thought it would make a better national symbol for the US than the Bald Eagle. #833 for photomom

That certainly sounds like not enough brake. You might try moving out a few knots on your upper handle pigtails. Exactly how you hold the handles is less important than the relative lengths (IN THE POSITION YOU HOLD THEM) of the lines. A great many people favor the first exercise of setting up with the kite on the LE (Leading Edge), and pulling in on the lower (brake) lines until the kite just barely lifts off the ground, and then letting the lower lines out immediately to land the kite back on the LE. Never letting the kite rise more than a foot off the ground, repeat this, gradually holding in the air longer and longer until you have control of the Inverted Hover. This gets your hands (it's a motor skill, not a mental skill) used to making the tiny adjustments required to hold the kite steady in position. Dozens, even hundreds, of repetitions are needed to train the muscles to respond correctly. This sounds like a lot, but at the rate of one lift-off and landing every few seconds (increasing to several seconds), you can get a lot of reps done in a very short time. Another concept (this is my own - NOT widely used in teaching) is to firmly drill yourself on the idea that one kind of differential (difference in angle of the handles) makes the kite turn CLOCKWISE (not to the right) and the other kind turns the kite COUNTER-CLOCKWISE (not to the left). Right and left of the kite change depending on which way is up. Clockwise and counter-clockwise are always the same.

Gobble, gobble, gobble, indeed. These turkeys must think they are invulnerable! #833 for photomom

Photomom wins! Masterful solution! Yay! --------------------- (John: this means photomom gets my number for this drawing. This is a tough one to give up, as this kite really fits into my line-up, but a prize with no value to the giver is no prize.) Now, for no prize whatsoever, except praise (since I am out of numbers for the time being) who can figure out the first puzzle? BTW, it's post #87 back on page 9 for those who are really confused.

For the second one, think haiku. Figuring that one should give a clue to the first.

Obviously, "instructions aren't included"...........I'm lost ? Is this a riddle ? Yes; and so is the post before it. Remember: 8 - 3 - 3 (And thanks for quoting it; one extra chance at the RNG.)

B-series mid-vent package waits. Calls to me: "Fly me, Pete."

Here is a test for subtlety: very sneaky. If not successful, Try something else.

Just sayin' 833

This is KITElife, folks, not REVlife. It's OK to dis any kite that you don't happen to feel the need for. OTOH, this may just be a new way to confuse the RNG, and you all were sucked in.
-
Okay, Sari. You're way behind. You have to get busy reminding the RNG which number to pick. The more elaborately you can get your number out there, the more likely (NOT - no effect at all) it is to be picked.

Hey Pete, I'm really proud of you. I can't believe you resisted that one ! And BTW, where the heck have you been ? Have you been hanging out on another forum ? I check Kitelife 2 or 3 times a day. Just haven't been posting much. (While I'm here: #833!)

I got to four kite fests this year after not having been to any for 20 years. I really enjoyed seeing the sky full of color again. (I also enjoyed meeting some of the people I only knew from online.)

Have you tried Great Canadian Kite Co? ( http://www.canadiankitecompany.com/ )They are a sponsor (among many) of this site, and may be able to ship to you for less, since there is no hassle with international shipping. They do plenty of Rev business. They don't list 120' x 90# quad sets, but if you asked, such a thing might be available.

Whew!!! That was a close one!

Oh Photomom. Be careful exactly what can of worms you open up.

The face of Kitelife 'Magazine', future...

Thanks for the effort. Setting the "posting date" to something appropriate will make things sort correctly. I suppose that integrating archives is not something the forum software designers would have anticipated. -

I see the kitelife icon in the tab, but what is the icon in the address-box? (Chrome 15.0.874.106 / Mac 10.7.2) It looks like a stylized globe, but art that resolution it might be almost anything. -

I note also that the tiny icon that appears to the left of the text in a browser bookmark has changed from a blue square with a white Vee (or possibly a 'K' lying on its side) into a gray square with the word 'KITE' over the word 'LIFE' in white lettering. I think this is usually found in a file called favicon in the root directory of the website. I'm wrong; the favicon seems to be a gray-on-white globe with the Americas and a bit of Europe facing forward. I have no idea where the KITE LIFE box is located or what it is called. Wrong again. Further research has completely confused me. Now I don't know where either of the icon files are located or what they are named. -
More conversion, issues coming online here!

I know what rebuilding a system similar in complexity to that is like. Great work, so far. I'm impressed!
