  1. Now I know why more people aren't flying two indoor Rev's at once. The cold might have something to do with it, but I feel my back near the bottom of my shoulder blade, and my neck in a spot I never feel. I didn't fly last night, giving it a break. Today I'm fine, but it makes me aware of the danger of what I'm attempting to do. Part of it might be that I used the lines that were on the kites and one set is about a ft. longer then the other. I want them both the same size. I think I want the line longer to slow the kites down as well. I'm going to go at this slowly and carefully. I do not want to get hurt and be unable to fly for the rest of my life. Festivals are being scheduled for the summer, and vacation days planned. We'll get some of the events on the calendar soon. BB Penny ~who has a few sparkly mermaid costumes drying in the living room.
  2. Nada... nothing.... patience.. means wait nicely.. Can't wait to see it. BB Penny
  3. Thank you Andy.. Dream on!!! two minutes is an eternity for me right now.. ok,I'll work towards it. Tell Wren not to get jealous, your just having a little fun.. it's only a fling/ a fly by night thing. and just let Echo know she is just a stand in till you get your rev. BB Penny ~who made it to work on a sheet of black ice.
  4. OH Yeah ~, I finally did it. Spending 45 minutes in the gym last night flying two Rev kites at once. No… I didn’t keep them up for 45 minutes. 45 seconds was probably the longest.. But I did crash, land, relaunch and regain control – I use the word control loosely- about 3 pull it up, reverser it back, go forward saves per flight attempt. Better yet. I had no problems when I came down. No 15 minutes of untangling! Woo hoo! Now that I’ve spent some time on the single handles I can control the crash/landing enough to not tangle. Wow, what a lot of work!! I always say 2 minutes goes a long way when you first start indoor flying. You are tired, your hands are up in the air, the resistant pull of the kite, walking, even almost running as a beginner, wears you out quick.  45 seconds of two indoor Revolutions at once is exhausting.. I’m having trouble waking up this morning, but that’s probably because I can’t get in the gym till after 9 PM and get to bed later then normal. Woo hoo! Those Revolution kites are soooooooo much fun. Steve came in and watched. The last fly, they came down on top of me and we were laughing so hard. I figured, this will take at least 5 minutes to untangle.. So I told him, I’d untangle and join him on the treadmill. When he left, Ba da bing, ba da boom, they were untangled.. .and I had two more flys before …… . …..My second single handle fell apart in my hands. Lol I didn’t see that coming! Oh, well, I had decided for now, I would duct tape them and keep them stationary, as it is the handle with the movement. I’m not ready for the movement yet and I’m directing the kite ok, without it. Later…. I’m going to have to try and find a handle replacement because the handles move left and right pretty freely. Well, there you have it. Roger Maddy who flies 3 Rev’s at once outside, told me it couldn’t be done. We know it can be done. It’s just going to be a long road of practice, laughing, soar muscles, yea, and some untangling. (hey, there's no smiley face tangled in line available) Outdoor season is getting closer, so enjoy all the indoor you can in this cold weather. BB Pernny ~ who needs to wake up.
  5. My living room is thrashed. There are remnets of material, and a dz. glittery mermaid tails hanging all over. It's lunch time and I'm coloring scales on the mermaid tails. infant to adult... I've cut, glued, colored and need to iron, cut out grass and more.. All for kites. How did it ever come to this? BB Penny ~who spends more time preparing then she does flying now a days.
  6. Didn't he place indoors with a single line butterfly at Treasure Island or Ocean City Nationals? Kewl video. BB Penny
  7. I accidently said David Brewster at Windless Long Beach. It was David Bradley. I'm Sorry, I didn't get to see him fly very much. What little I did see was his usual graceful fly style with improved skills, and a slimer body. Woo hoo ~ All good. Amy, and other kitefliers are slimming down with indoor flying too. It's a perk~ BB Penny ~who needs the treadmill, too.
  8. A fade outside on long lines? So, you wouldn't catch it. Hmm... BB Penny ~who's waking up
  9. Thank you Amy. I liked hearing people say they didn't know it was me at first. I'm sooooooo glad you like it. You know I need adult help w/ the kids and they have to be in costume. lol I have a 1/2 hr. TV commercial from Brookings that Nancie sent me and Steve ran out in the middle of my routine to save a butterfly kite.. Oh no -..dressed as Steve! I let him know.. he needs a costume. I'm so glad he loves me. Yes, the fishies.. jelly fish off a stick inside at Lincoln City, blue and green diamonds.. Sometimes I wish my pocket book was as full as my imagination. BB Penny ~ singing.. It's a mermaid! Lincoln City Indoor Kite Festival is coming in March.. Best of the best. The show, the Parks, the two extra fly spots (gym and commons area) for lessons, practice and fun. We are all looking forward to it. On another note; Be sure you are checking our Watty's tutorials and Wen's moves in this forum under ‘Kite Videos” Windless with Watty.
  10. Fantastic Wen, I thought when I saw it, "Oh, that's kewl.. I do that sometimes." If you do it once you know you can learn to do it. Doing something on purpose and knowing how to do it are two different things. It takes practice.- physically and mentally challenging. At the gym last night, I tried.. hahahaha Then I worked on trying to do it an inch off of the ground. Wow, those tips want to flip up. So.. I am waiting patiently... (patience means wait nicely) Please, lets get that tutorial out there you two. BB Penny ~who loves watching the kids coming up and who can pancake now. Thanks Spence!
  11. I can hear Kid Rock singing, "It's a Mermaid!" Here are pictures of my first mermaid costume. My tail needs a smaller gage wire to hold it's shape and a cut on the top to define the tail more. No sewing, except for a few small stiches.. and that won't be necessary in the end. I've picked up material to do the kids's mermaid costumes. The girls really wanted to wear one this weekend, and I didn't have them ready. I"ve figured out a way to have the kids help make their own costumes by pinning on tufs of green at the hips, and the tail, so no matter what size they are, we can do it. A greecian wrap and pin with an extended tail and the fins pinned on. I plan on having all sizes from toddler to mom. I'll get new pictures up at least on my space of the flyers at Windless. They did a fantastic job, and what fun we had! BB Penny ~ who enjoys all the perks kiteflying gives her.
  12. Here are two pictures of Penny Lingenfelter flying two revs at once. The Revolution kite I'm flying is a white one and the black, gold, red. The last picture is after throwing them down, declaring I'm done and I was happy! Just wait, next year we'll get good. BB Penny ~who better get ready for work.
  13. That was the Highlight of the Show...... Hmm.. Romantic, I was going for Spellbinding, but Romantic is good. Thank you very much Penny. There is a feeling or high that people get from flying kites. John calls it the "Glow." I call it "Aoxomoxoa," which is also known as "Vaporish," as in the Prism Vapor. The only time I got that feeling from watching a kite fly was Dicks first place fly last year at Windless. I was trying to recreate that feeling for the audience. It was nice to hear from several of the public that the routine had moved them. I even got fan mail from the Hayes girls.... so cute. Rx How Cute! Glad you had a good time and the girls are giving you input. lol BB Penny
  14. Sorry Howard, I don't.. They have several schools in Long Beach.. Inside the wind won't shift. j/kidding. I wouldn't have faith in finding any clean wind anywhere, with what we've had. Good luck. BB Penny
  15. It was a great weekend. I hope somebody gets an article to Kitelife or AKA. Someone who will talk about how Kay Buesing from the kite museum who is there when you arrive no matter how early, and there when you leave. How 80 something year old Mary, one of our favorite volunteers sits and guards the door so people don't go in an out while the flyers perform, instead of enjoying the show from inside the gym. Or how late Sharon and the other museum volunteers are up after the potluck. They would have to mention how tirelessly Bob and Donna Wendt work at the sound booth. I'm sure they'll mention the sponsors like T's "Kite Shoppe" that set up a booth, answered questions, and helped flyers, or at least tried. Theresa put her hands on my shoulder and said, "Sit down, relax a minute Penny" ha! like that could happen.. "NO”, I said, “I have to much to do." Still, if we needed a part, missing a spar, or looking for just the right kite, Theresa and good friend Nina were there to help. Jeremy, with sons Zach and Sam were there. We enjoy watching the boys grow up as much as we enjoy their kiteflying. OOOhhh, Amy Doran being beaten by her 16 yr. old son. Go Connor! World Cup champion Jerry Cannon, who's wife Marsha raffeled off her latest quilt "Rok on Rok". Lucky Jeannette won it. They’d mention all of the people who took time out of their busy schedule to judge, rather then fly.. Bill and Jeannette Rodgers, and Scotty Weider. I'm not sure of others. Justina!!!! Oh, Justina!!! The best runner, costume director and general manager I've had in a while. Thank you young lady. Your mermaid costume is coming. Thanks Mike for bringing Jen and Justine. Toby who brought Dick Curran, or was it the other way around? , Dave Brewster, Bud Hayes and the girls. Don and Mary Ostey added their support. Our kite life forum Andy..... RX? , he was there flying a glider and adding some romantic flying to the queue. Past audience members were there, coming from some distance to try again. I know I forgot to mention many people that I will want to add later. Seriously, we have so outgrown this gym. We're going to be needing a place that provides more room. There were students with 8 kites up at one time in this small gym and at least that many people on the side lines waiting for their turn. That being said; we are so thankful to have this event and gym and SCOTT DAVIS for taking the time to put it all together. Great big THANK YOU's!! BB Penny ~who’s still thrilled to get two kites at once up and hearing rumors of a new indoor event in Ellensburg, WA in April.
  16. Woo Hoo! Windless was a great success! The group of flyers is certainly outgrowing the gym. I defended my title for hot tricks! First place.. This year I added two tricks and trust me it takes all of that to get a first place. What did I do? Jump roping, pulling it from behind me to jump over it and launch in front of me. single handle flying, pancake.. I pointed it out with one hand, while it did it with the other. New tricks? Aha ha I climbed up in the chair and stood. It took me the second attempt to do it.. so the audience appreciated it more. Steve said the first time I went up he thought I was going over. lol Nope, but I would like to find an easy way to get in the chair without loosing the kite. Steps maybe? Then.. and then..... and then... I tried to fly two Indoor Revs at once. Once again it took two attempts. My kite caught kite tails from a wall kite and wouldn't go.. The second attempt I DID it.. I was totally out of control.. but I did it!! Cold, to I might add.. I haven't got to try flying two kites at once for several years I think. I needed to practice one handle in each hand till I improved. I lost the kites.. then I regained them. I actually had a little control. You know that feeling.. The kites doing what you want, but you don't feel in control. It was awesome for me!! I was yelling my head off in excitement. I can do this!!! I'm going to do this. It will take some time.. but it's doable. My mermaid costume was a hit, and I'm really looking forward to making the kids/ladies costumes for the future. It's going to be fun routine. My witch costume was the first time flown at an indoor event. My feed back was great. Some people claim it is now their favorite routine. It's all about the cape. It flows so well, though the single handle flying was probalby what the people were watching. Scotty Weider was there. He flew beautifully. We are so lucky he gets to come play with us sometimes. Connor Doran received an indoor Rev for Christmas and he has improved leaps and bounds. He took first place in Experienced. You'll have to go to the N.W. stunk kite leagues web page to get the results from the competition. Dick Curran, took 2nd. Last year he whined (yes, whined) to me that he couldn't ever take a first place in a competition with an outdoor single line kite on a stick. I told him, yes you can. wear a costume or somthing, because the score is total entertainment value. Change out your kite with the music.. Well, he threw off a cape and had on a cream colored suit, w/ red tie and looked pretty sharp. No, he didn't have on his normal pirate hat. lol He flew to some classical music and took 2nd. I told him later, he would have took first place if he'd shown another kite. He said, watch my demo routine and let me know what you think. He switched 5 kites.. Looked good. Maybe he could have used one or two less kite. He asked me if he would have took first place. oops... I told him "No, not till you get rid of the clothes that scare the kids." lol Dick is like me.. we believe in wearing kite clothes.. jammers.. colorful..non matching circus meets disney clothes. Dick looks like a clown in a pirate hat.. great for kites, color and attention. But I have to be more careful in a clown suit then a dinosaur suit. Many kids are afraid of clowns. Dick asked Toby and Toby told him.. yeah, you scare kids. lol Watch out.. I see a first place finish in Dicks future. John and Ron were there, the gentlemen I met in Camas. I should tell their wifes on them. They are having way to much fun flying kites. They were in for comps and hot tricks and then to the beach to fly.. the yard to fly.. anywhere.. as long as they could fly. They were walking smiles. Well, I am going to be late for work. You don't want to miss Windless next year. All the flyers have improved so much..and it's just the beginning.... next year.. we'll get good. BB Penny ~ who flew two Revs at once.
  17. Sorry you didn't make it Tristan. We missed you and Spence, and you missed so much fun! Hope to see you at the next one. BB Penny
  18. I hope no one out there is holding their breath. I didn't get to work on two kites at once yet. I fought a cold.. it was a tie. I found my handle.. but the gym has been full. And now there’s not much time to prepare for Windless Kite Festival in Long Beach, WA.. Three more day! It's a wonderful event, but small gym. I did make up two new sets of line for the handles.. I can hear No Doubt singing in my head.. "Getting closer... Getting closer.... I've been flying in the racquetball court, climbing on the treadmill (I'm determined now) and making my new costume. The mermaid costume is almost done. I hope to debut it this weekend, though it will be very messy. It's a homemade costume, and comes with a guarantee to make you smile. Red curly hair and a shiny mermaid tail; how could you not smile? My husband laughed out loud. Well, I better get an email answered and ready for work. Soon!!!!!!! Now go fly a kite. BB Penny ~who would rather be flying a kite.
  19. Ok, It's the weekend. I'm going to go fly here shortly. Someone mentioned jump roping in an email. For jump roping the line must be short. Depending on your heigth as to how short. You have to be able to pull it off of the ground a few inches, so from the the top of your raised arms to an inch above the ground. That long. For now the way I'm doing it: Laying the Revolution kite face down. Leading edge towards me. I pre-wrap my lines. Turning each handle a 360, completely around for 1 count. I do this three times on each handle. When you jump rope the kite it puts twist into each line, so this leaves the kite ready to fly after jumping it 3 itimes My arms make large circles and my hands push out as much as possible to keep tension on the line. Pulling the kite along the ground towards me I jump it and pull it over like a jump rope.. the next two jumps (more if you like) the kite floats a few inches off the ground completeing the jump rope sequence. I'm pointing the handle bottoms straight or pointed out to try to keep the line off of them as I jump-I thnk. Pointing them in? That might be why the line is getting around the bottom of the handles. (Time for me to pull out the video camera and check it out) At the end, my kite wants to float towards me.. I lower my hands so I can pull the lines up while stepping back and lower my handles while shaking them to shake the line off of the bottom of the handles. This is important for me.. till I figure out a better way to do it. Wala.. I'm flying .. Oh, Hot tricks. This will have an example of the jump roping. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1009485866837776506 BB Penny ~ who’s going to go look for that handle.
  20. Hey Cerf, the paint I was referring to works wonderful outside even in the ocean unless it's painted to thick. Wonder what you are using? I hope the witch makes it to the N.W. heheh Not Litsong, but the kite.. I mean.. she can come too... Oh.. you know what I mean. BB Penny
  21. I just went to the American Kite Buggiers forum and saw pictures of SOBB 07 and 08. Oh.... I want to buggy. AmericanKiteBuggier@www.msnusers.com I'm not sure if you can get there from this, but give it a try. BB Penny~who is starting to feel the need for speed..
  22. So, I've been heading to the gym at night to fly. #*# grumble~grumble. Basket ball season is now in full swing, so I've been in the raquet ball court for practice. I shouldn't complain. at least I have a place to fly. One of the fun moves I've been playing with is just landing the rev against the wall. A nice secure way of landing it and sticking it is to just reverse the kite and land it tips on the wall.. facing 9:00.. tug slightly on the top wing and it comes down.. slides down the wall and stands against the wall. It's so easy, I wonder if I could do it blind folded. I'll have to try that. I haven't called Amy back, but she and Connor were headed to the gym to fly. I'm antsy to see them and everyone else at Windless in Long Beach, WA on Martin Luther King weekend-next week. (?) I guarantee you everyone will have improved. How exciting. I'm going to work on my mermaid costume soon. I was flying to the little mermaid last night and thought how my kite looked like a crab.. so there you go. I'll make it look a little more like the crab that sings the song and I'll be Arielle? What ever the mermaid's name is. I'm going to KISS it.. Keep- It- Simple- Stupid... Just me and the kite to start with. I'll have to prepare the kids mermaid costumes for later. I remember one of the organizers in Santa Cruz told me her daughter was helping her and heard that Penny was flying next.. She tossed down what she was working on and said "Mom, I have to go.. Penny's flying...I can't miss this." lol I haven't met her, but I can't let her down... I've got to have something that will make her smile. Do you think the mermaid might do it? My witch routine will be new there and I love the flow of the cape.. so that should be enough for this year. I've been flying for an hour and then getting on the tread mill. YUK!!!!!! I dislike walking. I don't like to walk across a fair ground without a kite in my hand.. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could even walk a mile without my kite. I'm up to 4 miles now and it's not near as bad as I thought... especially after an hour of flying and getting my heart pumped up without even trying. I figure I'm walking at least 1 1/2 to 2 miles while I fly. I seldom stop even once in an hour. Though, seriously the kite looks a little tired the last 15 minutes. lol YIkes, I better get back to work. I swear.. I'm going to try and fly two handles this weekend. Have a great weekend. BB Penny ~ who's thinking "Where did I put that second handle?!"
  23. Ooooo, aaahhh, A nice opportunity. Thanks John. It's winter.. The Indoor Rev.. no contest. BB Penny
  24. Hope you all had a happy New Year. We drove through Portland and it was pretty ugly.. Well, it was ugly everywhere in the N.W. Cheers to a fantastic, healthy, happy New Year to you all! Bb Penny
