  1. Looks like yuo had lots of fun watty. What kite were you flying on such short lines? BB penny ~who has a wet cat costume to wash.
  2. Thank you all. I'd love to see more national and global events posted. It's such a small world. We have friends we can share this with. Happy Happy Birthday John. BB Penny ~ who better get chores done so she has some fly time.
  3. Very Kool Good to see you again. Maybe you can teach my B some tricks!! I'll be there. BB Penny who's outdoor gear is ready.
  4. Ok, Everyone is having festivals and competitons. Time to get them all posted on Kitelife. I'll try to get Brookings, OR up, and Canada has one on June 13, 14th at Venier Park (SP) More clubs are having fun flys this time of year. In fact PCKA has one this Thursday. at Kite Henge... a golf course? hmm.. see.. we've got to get this info out and posted on the calendar. BB Penny ~who will stop to fly on the way home.
  5. Kewl, not yet Rick. We'll have to look for it. Who was flying it? BB Penny ~who's dragging after getting home at 2AM.
  6. I'm still getting indoor for practice. OMG, so much fun. We've had blue clouds for a couple of days, so I did get some outdoor practice in. That big yellow orb in the sky was a bit of a shock, but I got use to it. Last night when I came home Steve asked if I was happy.. I told him, yes, I was.. "Do you want to be happier? Always.. I said.. "Then go look beside the entertainment center. " I ran to see what he had up his sleeve and wala! there was a package from Lolly at Rev. with a vented Rev II and vented 1.5!! Yeah!!! Love it!!! I'm ready for the highest winds. I'll be able to fly w/ team without having to man handle my standard 1.5 while the rest fly vented. My favorite kite.. a vented Rev II.. I can fly that kite when the vented 1.5's have to come down and it feels like nothing on the end of your line. I call it my 18 hour kite. I can fly for 18 hours and not be sore or tired.. ok.. well maybe a little tired after 18 hours of flying, but not sore. It's the best! So now I'm packed for San Ramon this weekend. No wind to high wind~ I'm ready! Thank you Rev.. Look for me at an event near you. BB Penny
  7. I've been working on sitting in a chair and flying the Indoor Rev .. and standing on the chairs and flying the Indoor rev. I'm improving. Still haven't broken anything.
  8. QUOTE (Penny Lingenfelter @ Dec 5 2008, 12:50 PM) Rev coming straight down leading edge first. Walk forward, handles down, and forward making the kite pancakefront down leading edge away-tips towards me. Then popping it back up. Only my up is leading edge down, tips up, the same as when I started the move... then back down, and up. Does it take a front down- facing the ground, then front up- facing the *ceiling to become a flick flac? Nope, those are simply multiple pancakes (by name)... In and out, in and out, etc. Flic flac is with tips down (starting), and a quick flick to send the tips upwards (face up or all the way over to face away), then an identical flick (flac) to get it facing you again... Again, being a fast move, it requires sail pressure and weight in the kite. I've never been able to do one on the Indoor Rev (too much belly as well = wind resistance). That's a quote from John B. _____________________________________________ Ok, I'm practicing my Rev version of a flick flac indoors. I start with the kite inverted and lay it out, bring it up, lay it out, bring it up. I did it three times, quick and it looked good..... once.. Usually it's stiff looking and timeing is everything. But if you do it once it can be done. It may take me a few years to improve it. Spence.. run with it. It can be done, lets see what young will get out of it. I still have issues with moving forward quickly. BB Penny ~ who still wants to fly indoors w/ this cold wet spring.
  9. I agree... great and appropriate name... Perfect! That move is SOOOO Awesome Spence! Loved it. Some close up, slow video of your hands on these tricks would be great. Keep going! BB Penny ~ who feels inspired~
  10. My costumes are shipped to California, My gear is getting cleaned up. Even more exciting is that Gary Maceachern is making me another single handle for my Rev. Good, if I"m going to be sore, it should be even pain on both shoulders. We're expecing a nice weekend, so fun in the sun, wind or no wind. BB Penny ~who better get ready for work.
  11. I had a wonderful fly last night. The single handle Rev flying. Standing on a chair was easier. Flying blindfolded was easier. walking forward under the kite was easier.. Practice, practice, practice. Next year I['m going to get good. Just like I'm not quite ready to pull out my spring clothes (and the ground was white w/hail last night, so who could blame me), I'm not ready to quit indoor kiteflying. I know I have to get out doors, but it's perfect indoor fly time. Basketball is over! BB Penny ~Who hopes to fly tonight too.
  12. More AM winds where? I'm 2 years into this kite thing, and in Chehalis-Centralia, the winds are rarely usable. Recently purchased land on Long Beach Peninsula - is your Tsunami theory predicting a disaster? Oh my, Oh my - bore us. Hi Howard, My Tsunami theory.  OK, Remember the big earthquake – Was it 2004? 9.1. W. coast of Sumatra. Killing close to 228,000? Not the most destructive, but it caused a tsunami.. a large tsunami. The earthquake caused an under water mud slide. The mud slide pushed the water ahead of it, which raised up in not a wave, but many waves, traveling 100’s of miles, rearing up 30 feet and creating walls of water that swooped over land. Water lay over the land in large amounts saturating the ground, and evaporating into the atmosphere. More water then usual going into the atmosphere. The air in front of it did not just disappear. It was forced in long waves, around trees that stood their ground, sending it in many directions for 100’s of miles. Look into the clouds.. Can you imagine this? When the grandkids were little, we would sit across the room from a light windsock on the other side of the room and blow as hard as we could. Of course, nothing happened. Nevertheless, we would wait about 5 minutes and it would slowly turn. Our little bit of breath-wind traveled that far over time. Since the earth is like a glass terrarium. Our atmosphere is affected by everything we do, so, I think the tsunami affects our weather. In the Pacific N.W. lower altitudes, we usually get very little snow. Because the clouds keep us warm around here- above freezing. When it’s sunny our temperatures go down, because the heat escaped up. But without the clouds, we don’t have the moisture for the snow. Now, with more wind from the forced air ahead of the waves, more water from the evaporated water left on land, I think there will be more wind and more rain in the atmosphere. More wind lowers the wind chill creating more snow. When I first started flying, there was little wind for a few years. Normal days of wind, higher wind, but less wind over all. About 1997 -99 we had gales of wind more often. A Rev II was my favorite kite in the bag. It was La Nina from the ocean temperatures. She brought more wind, colder temperatures and wetter weather. It’s what she does.. but as a kiteflier, we noticed more wind before they started exclaiming that “La Nina is coming”. Then the winds died down, and became lighter over all. Ultra light kites were a necessity and became more popular. Howard, we do have what we call a “dead zone” in the early morning, and twilight where the wind stops for a while. For the last 10 years events have brought me in to fly those no wind mornings, and light wind days, but we seem to be having more wind building everywhere I go, so I think the Tsunami will affect our weather. Someone said it couldn’t affect the trade winds, etc. but others say yes.. and a few sites say that we could be writing new script into our weather history. It’s been 5 years. We’ve had more snow and rain. We had a 100 yr. rain storm. How has your weather been? I’m a beach bum and only live a few hours away from the beach. Our wind is typically cleaner than what you get in land around mountains and valleys. I’d like to find time to look at earthquakes, Tsunami’s and the weather following them. But I don’t.. I just think about it and imagine. There’s some fascinating info out there. La Nina, and El Nino faq’s: http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/tao/elnino/faq.html Earthquake page: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsww/ How do earthquakes, El Nino’s and tsunami affect us? It’s fun to look into it, especially since it affects us. Now I wish I’d gone to college.  I’ll just have to fly my kite and experience it. BB Penny ~who thinks we are still in for a little more wind. You asked. 
  13. hey, jeff: 2 is such a modest number. if you don't want to quit when the wind is picking up, nor want to put some holes in your Std /regular as you say, you may look into the vented soon enough. it's not a bad thing, this love for flying. to deal with the issue of having more kites then you can fly at one time, just get your family and friends started, then they will soon be more understanding and supportive..... ps: please don't ask me how many kites we have in our house. Litsong,... That's funny stuff! You know ....yesterday, in the later afternoon, the wind picked up, and my brother in law and I saw a reason for a VENTED also!!! OH NO!!!! Anyhow ...but seriously, ....vented situations are rare for me,...my BIL lives in California and got an Ultralight because that's what HE primarily sees ....an UL and a standard will suit me just fine for a while! Man is this ...just ..............F_U_N!!! I won't bore you with my Tsunami theory, but we are seeing more winds even in the AM's this year then the past 4 or 5. BB Penny ~ who needs a new vented, too.
  14. Hey, I'm 50 and that's my trick. You can do it Jynx. Now, Watty show them how to jump rope it. BB Penny
  15. Ok, It's Spring, so you'll be outside, but dont' forget an INdoor Rev. You'll want to fly year round regardless of the weather. Knowing how to fly outdoors is not that big of an advantage when you learn inside. So don't forget to look at the indoor for winter.. and those no wind days. You can fly them on long lines, or short. BB Penny
  16. Isn't dragging after an event an understatement? Now, it's transition time from indoor to outdoor. Before I put a hold on indoor practice I need to have another handle made to replace the one that came apart on me. I'll take it to a friend to try and then my mechanic if they can't do it. I bought bright materials to redo the mermaid tails so they will show up better. Not much time to get them done. I'll be a mermaid in Morro Bay with dancing mermaids in a parade, and a few school flies before the 3rd Annual Morro Bay festival. Well, here is to a good week. BB Penny ~who needs to get back to the gym.
  17. If this was face book, I'd write.. I like this. BB Penny
  18. Thanks Kat, Did you see the single handle? Very fun! Someones probably going to be flying two rev's at once before I get it down good. How about those fliers? Pretty good huh. Lincoln City has done so much for kiteflying indoors and out. We had scouts from different states there checking it out. In fact I need to go contact one or two of them. Very fun! BB Penny ~ who can picture Caroline in an indoor show.
  19. Words don't cover the experience, do they? In case someone missed it here is the video of Lincoln City Indoor Kite Festival produced by Aerial Experience with Lee and Debbie Park, along with Kinsley Johnson a 3rd Aerialist. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4477386325940322270 Our cast of kite fliers included Tristan Underwood, Jerry Cannon, Lisa Willoughby, Paul De Bakker, Connor and Amy Doran, David Bradley, Zach Colbert, Scott Wieder, Jeff Reed and ME.. There were so many Rev's in the show.. Yeah REV's! That I had to switch it up and fly a single handle. I hadn't practiced in a few weeks, due to an illness, still it's ok. The whole cast flew wonderfully telling a story that Aerial Experience produced about N.W. Indians. I was the Grandmother .. the woman with all the wisdom. lol My thirst thougth was.. they could have given me some warning. haha Maggie Conrad helped me adust to being everyone's grandmother by saying it was the wisdom of kiteflying. I've been in it longer then most. so... I can live with that. My windless witch routine was a lot of fun with a cute intro. I'll try to write it another day. The video is an hour long. Video by Shannon Underwood. Thank you Shannon!!!!! BB Penny ~who's head should be on a pillow.
  20. I'm packed. Except clothes and who needs clothes? BB Penny ~who remembers her husband thinks she should pack some clothes.
  21. Yeah~Yeah! Love it. Thank you for letting us know. I'm leaving all my outdoor at home, so I'm not tempted. I'm feeling better, but can't over do it. lol See you there! BB Penny
  22. Theresa, Have a great time. We'll really miss you there. Tell everyone hello. It's been a few years since I've gone up to network. BB Penny
  23. I'm so excited you are coming! Safe trip. BB Penny ~who finished her new mermaid costume today.
  24. I hope that Lee dosen't mind me posting this. Here is info for our indoor show. See you there! BB Penny ~who's been looking for shoes for it. “MYSTIC CANYON” explore…experience…enliven – the circle that is our life Hey Everyone! I know it’s getting close to the exciting events surrounding the Lincoln City Indoor Kite Festival. We are thrilled to have so many participants for the featured show, “Mystic Canyon, explore…experience…enliven – the circle that is our life”. Our company has prepared a backdrop curtain, stretch fabric decorations, specialty props, oversize suspended dreamcatchers and custom costumes. The event will include lots of cutting edge kite flying solos and group numbers as well as several amazing aerial dance numbers. We are bringing with us one of Aerial Experience Productions featured artists, Kinsley Johnson, who will join my wife, Debbie in performing several aerial dance numbers. Many of the group assignments and short flying interludes will be arranged onsite, but you should all now have music for your featured pieces which will combine to tell an inspiring story about the circle of life…many tribes, but one circle…many differences, but one circle…many pursuits, but one circle. In this show, you will offer the audience an opportunity to explore differences through creative expression and to experience emotion through heartfelt presentation, but most of all, you will enliven their hearts as you take them on a journey through Mystic Canyon. Inspired by Native American Indian tales and culture, “Mystic Canyon” is meant to call to mind our shared journey that is life. Costuming is earth toned browns, greens and tans. Ladies will be provided dresses and layered shirts, but you should plan to bring leggings and tight fitting, long sleeve undershirts, beaded dangling earrings and moccasins or dance shoes (brown or tan) (barefoot is also a good option). Gentlemen will be provided decorative over shirts, but should plan to bring cargo pants (Walmart, loose fit, Wrangler Cargo Pants in brown, tan or black…in that order of preference), a belt, moccasins or appropriately styled and colored water shoes (barefoot is also a good option) and a long sleeve t-shirt in brown or black (this is a backup in case ours don’t fit you). Michaels Craft store sells a moccasin kit for like 15 dollars. If you have any other clothing items you think might match this color scheme please bring them along so we can consider the items; however, please remember that it is important that the cast is costumed in a similar fashion. This helps to raise the overall production value! We will set up for the show as early as possible on Friday morning and rehearse the production as soon after that as possible. Please think carefully about your kite choices. If you can, please dig through the kite bag and try to consider picking models that reflect the earth tone color scheme and Native American Indian theme. (Good colors might be deep red, orange, amber, yellow, brown, white and copper) Where possible, it’s best to have a few choices with you. Everything is workable though. As always, we want variety…the more kite models the better. Lee Park Executive Producer
  25. We need to find the you tube for Jesse's record breaking jump and put in on here. Hang ten is an understatement. I can report from Family that he is doing well and traveling the world as part of the world cup package, but you should see the video, it's amazing. BB Penny~ who could never have done it, not even when she was younger.
