  1. I'll give it a try. This may get me to finally attempt to take some pictures while flying. I will click away with a point & shoot hoping to get a few decent images. Before digital cameras appeared taking pictures was a financial commitment. Now we have no reason to shoot plenty & sort through them. When I first saw gliders I did not think they were for me but now I love mine.
  2. Oh Wayne, and I was just thinking about outfitting an old 1.5 Rev, with a 7/16" SLE in the LE, and I was going to make a set of vertical (upright) rods out of another old cut-down, SLE rod. Then I was going to send it to you, for heavy wind days. (ha, ha) Do think that thing would fly like a tank, or what ? Rev police would put you under the jail ! Tell me how much money to send, I'll fly it, need a tough kite, fits my style.
  3. I call it "ironic winds". Sort of like when you have all your ultra light stuff with you & that nice forecast for light winds seems to be a bit off once you're in the air. Nice little puffs seem to magically turn into strong gusts in the first half hour. Of course your high wind stuff is back in the car a half mile away so you "run what you brung". Got a few broken spars in my junk pile. Maybe I can make magic sticks out of the longer pieces....
  4. Great kite, love mine, have flown it more than any other kite I have. It's easy set up & have flying in no time. If you are buying any parts from Prism they have some surplus 3D cases for sale in the clearance section of their store. It allows you to carry the kite without breaking down the leading edges. Only five bucks & will also easily carry two lines sets if on small winders. My suggestion is to call Prism instead of using their web store. The shipping shows really high cost that is not correct, at least in my experience. I had made several parts purchases for parts I broke early on. Have lost the tiny top spreader for the 4D a couple times but was lucky enough to find it, one time a day later. No kite stores within hundreds of miles of my location so parts are very precious. Enjoy your kite, their are many topics & posts to answer any questions you might have. Wishing you best winds.
  5. I resemble this topic, all of the above posts. The start comment & then the learning along the way that has me to where I am today in my KiteLife. I do the multiple set up. I have the "ironic winds" while at work. I consider setting up & tearing down useful practice. Set Revs up leading edge up many times knowing I can maybe have a chance of launching when there's not anything but puffs. (Had only one self launch, so far). I have learned light wind flying, no wind flying, gliding, ground recovery, kite repair, wind direction changing flying, power flying, stack flying and so it goes. Have a new vented Rev due today so you can guess what the wind might be. And once in a while all the stars align & I get a woo whoo day. The conclusion of the matter is now I can fly something, somehow, if I choose to. In that lies quite a bit of effort & now satisfaction. Still plenty more to learn. I'm working on it.
  6. Ironic wind strikes again. When my new full vent gets here we'll probably have a calm lasting for days...but I have my little 4D to fly. Hope you enjoy yours even half as much as I like mine. Best wishes for kind winds.
  7. I still hesitate to fly quad at night. First flight with my Blast was at night in a mall parking lot in Myrtle Beach just before Christmas. Assembled the Blast inside the little motor home, pulled it out the back doors & leaned it against the side of the van. Then I started running out my 50# x 50' line set. Guess I struggled with some tangles for a bit too long because a young lady saw me leaned over for a long time & came by to see if I was okay. I got pretty animated when she almost ran over my line set. I assured her I was fine, thanked her for her concern & while she watched, the last tangle fell apart. I launched in a nice little breeze, flew about ten minutes & the dang phone brought me back to reality. It was time to pick up the shopper. My new thought is to only use 90# or stronger at night as it seems to not be so prone to tangles as those fine little 50# lines.
  8. Sometimes flying the little Micron in parking lots I lean it against a curb around a lamp post or use above tip. Hard to push a kite stake through the asphalt. If flying short lines I launch by carefully letting the lines slip through my fingers, a bit risky. 2/11/14 edit: I really enjoy topics like this as it expands my thoughts about kite flying & inspires me to fly more. If you wait for the ideal conditions & the perfect field it may be a long time between flights.
  9. Actually I have very fond memories of my early struggles not too long ago. I too wanted to succeed so badly. My Revolution 1.5 SLE did not have the bridle attached completely when I got to the beach with it. Later I read about it being a good idea to have the dealer assemble the kite before you left the store. Somehow I figured out how to attach the loops to the end caps & just attached it in a way that seemed to "look right". I got lucky & was able to thrash & flail with great abandon for at least an hour before I needed a martini. Flew my SLE today, with the heavy SLE leading edge, & enjoyed it immensely. I did a bit better than the early hours of flight. The Dark Side never let's you down.
  10. Anyone ever try magic sticks on a Power Blast 2-4? Might help when learning to Rev up a buggy.....probably do some 360's with Joe's Land Lizard. Many thanks Nylon Sky
  11. I would like a couple sets when you start production. Just let me know. It would be meaningful to fly with parts designed by a KiteLife member.
  12. The wind seems pretty slow at times, until you're trying to outrun it to keep some pressure on the sail.
  13. Okay, you got me on this one. I'd buy one of these if I could find one. I am in most certainly.
  14. Just kidding about the Snapshot 1.2, my little attempt at humor. My ultimate goal is to use Rev power. But I may start by practicing flying figure eights with the little kite while reclining in a low lawn chair. I will approach this new venture with caution. The times of "throwing caution to the wind" are fast slipping away. Takes longer to heal these days. When I look back at the things I've done in life & gotten away with, I realize I may have pushed my luck, excessively. I may post about the progression of learning this extreme kite adventure. Might be amusing to some I hope. Buggy received, Thanks Nylon Sky!
  15. Think I still have my knee & elbow pads from the skateboard phase, helmet from rock climbing/caving days, padded gloves, always a good idea on dirt bikes, light boots from mountain bike gear, goggles from skiing, & will need to start with Snapshot 1.2 as a trainer. Can't sleep thinking about all the possibilities. 2/3/14 edit: 1.2 for getting the feel of flying from the buggy without danger of actually moving
  16. Sounds good to me. Will be tied up with two jobs through April. But then it's a possibility. This buggy is an old hot rod. Which one are you getting?
  17. You certainly may! You might need to show me how it's done, at first... Most street rods & customs are known by the original owner's name, like "Nick's Deuce" for instance. This buggy will be like that.
  18. Yes, working for me too, now I have a better idea of locations of those who wish to show theirs, Thanks!
  19. Love this topic, I just realized I was "liking" every post. KiteLife is great, not just kites, but great people!
  20. Welcome Friend. I'm impressed that you are already a subscriber & an AKA member too. The path you're on is just like the one I began a year & one half ago. I had a bit of kite experience but was basically starting new again. I chose a SnapShot 1.2 & my journey began. Many paths to choose in kiting so we want to hear from you along your way. Me, I am trying to do it all. I am very interested in hearing your questions & comments. Many times someone like you will have a perspective that brings thoughts that have not entered my mind. Glad you're here, join us in chat.
