  1. That's pretty amazing. Usually I look at the tree tops & consult NOAA charts. Now if you could get forecasts for very specific GPS located kite fields it would be even more unbelievable. Or maybe let me know the next time to expect good conditions & with an alert function too. I guess the surfers have something like that for the waves these days. Some of us glider people are looking for zero wind so you might add that to your recommendations. As JB says, "just some random thoughts". But keep going, I like it. Putting it on the favorites bar now.
  2. Not yet............waiting for my lucky (post) number to come up...............hope I don't miss it tomorrow, while I'm traveling........... Obviously a man with some depth of thought. Me? I wanna be the first one to answer. Perhaps it's my big flaw. I'll have to think about that next time I meditate while flying.
  3. I agree, but that's just my view. I am needing air time more than a particular color or quality. But why not? If you wish to fly the top level kites I say go for it. I am glad there are many choices. I do like the B & I will buy the Zen as my first Pro level Rev. But for me a B2 is probably most likely next & because it's my idea of a higher wind kite. But my whims change, if I were to go to a high end kite store it would be tough to buy just one. There are so many cool kites. I might need to get them all.
  4. First kite, like this one, was flown by myself, with help from my brother, in 1957 as best as I can remember. Kite field was the street in front of the house, Archwood Place in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The whole neighborhood flew kites back then. There was always one on the power lines with it's tail hanging. It's a rare sight now. Last kite I saw trashed was run over & laying on a on ramp on I-40 near Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
  5. I am more cautious now than I was initially despite my silly enthusiasm that leaks out sometimes. When I first flew my 3 meter SLK delta recently it seemed so big. It was in Murdo South Dakota with a nice evening breeze & it launched easily but searched back & forth until I got it up in the smooth wind at about sixty feet. I was glad I had some Wala experience to draw on. The big kites are ones to fly with great care & intent. But the wind is fickle & things do go awry. Thanks for the caution about the line loop wrapping your wrist, Wow! And my imagination has not allowed for an axel like that.
  6. Tape is a great thing. I will try it on my mid-vent for sure. Recently got a vehicle that did not have a front tag bracket & the Old Dominion (Virginia) requires one. The car has a nice bra so I bought some black duct tape & carefully taped it on. Looks great IMHO! May eventually make a nice stainless steel bracket but the tape is so clever & very American.

Very nice Nick & your shop is way too neat or did you stage it a bit? Glad to see you take ownership of the kite & not be afraid to poke a few holes in it's little strap. Seriously, great stuff. Remember if you tire of it.....
  8. Count me in please, The good Karma is flowing well, eh? Hope to visit Flying Smiles in person this year. It would be a great reason to cruise by that way. Would probably buy something revolutionary.
  9. You are wise young Jedi. Have not hurt myself much, yet....
  10. I'd give it a go, but maybe only briefly. Love powerful kites & stacks. Fly 'em till you're sore...
  11. If this is your first Micron you're in for a treat. If you're stacking, even better. Glad you had good Karma,
  12. What a beauty! "Too many kites, too little time." Somebody famous said that.
  13. So much help here on KiteLife. Stuff it would take a season to learn is casually mentioned in a few posts & all of a sudden I'm in the air flying like I know what I'm doing. You guys are the best. Thanks again! Now I need to go get all my old climbing/caving stuff out & ponder the possibilities.
  14. Stacked kites are impressive, stacked Revs, Wow. Very nice. Now want the prize even more. Nick got me.
  15. I request a view of the famous SparkieRob at the controls.
  16. Yes, I must admit I too was holding back in the slim hope of winning. But the odds are pretty good, in fact excellent, compared to most chances we get in life. But this is the KiteLife & magic things happen.
  17. Wow! I'm impressed. Maybe I'll get out & try to catch up with you before I say more. Welcome, good to see you posting & even starting a topic. Many great fliers are about to comment. This is the place to guide your journey into the KiteLife. The Force is strong in this one Obi Wan.
  18. Thanks Rob. I've been wondering about my large tube tail. When I tried it on a standard sail two line delta it seemed to be a tether not a tail. Bought it when I had no eye deer. I will just keep getting bigger kites until I can use it. Sounds like a great rationale to go to the kite store for that really big delta I've seen. You know, the one that requires the 500 pound test line. Others ask questions & I get to learn from the pros.
  19. This would look fine stacked with my blue & gray. The wait begins. It would celebrate my kite reawakening in late August last year. Even if I miss this one I will fly my mid-vent that day in honor of the winner.
  20. Great flying. Makes me want to fly my quad Snapshot 2.5 next chance I get. Your skill & experience is very evident.
  21. Welcome to the forum! In the paper Hi Flier days we used to put on tails to just stabilize the kite enough to get it to fly. These days I put tails on a steerable two line kite to slow them down in high wind. A little sky writing is fun too. And now our kites are so good that we can use tails for visual interest. Recently got a 3 meter single line delta & now can fly any tail I want. Look forward to going even bigger with more laundry flying. That's a great looking kite in your avatar.
  22. The coldest temperature I've flown in is the high teens, not too pleasant. I was concerned about kite materials being a bit brittle but nothing seemed amiss. I like the Rev handles as they are easy to pick up with gloves on. But even If I tear a sail I'll just repair it. I keep hearing about stretched sails but if I've done it I can't really tell at my level. Tightened up the SLE 1.5 bungees once since I've had it. I do have a mid-vent 1.5B & will probably fly it quite a bit this winter. It is the windy time of year here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I will find it irresistible to fly a full sail B2 in strong wind just to hear it buzz & hum. By the light of the moon, in the shining snow, that's my intent. Note my little four lines in my signature. It is some sunrise thoughts from ten years ago that popped into my head while solo winter backpacking, could be my epitaph. In the early morning winter twilight you might glimpse a dark brown tobacco sky here in the mountains. A couple winter sunrise images
  23. Hey Nick, remember me if you change your mind after the thrill of acquisition passes. It does sound like your style, & mine. I really enjoy your posts, you read people well & seem to always know just what to say.
  24. Hmm! "Down coat, thirty plus winds, standard vented sail, screamin' across the window," Now that might be a better choice, AND, "there's a good excuse to get one a set, right?". My strategy for Rev purchases is to buy the full sail first especially because of the inland winds. I usually can only cough up enough for one high end kite at a time so sets come slowly. Traveling & other toys drain the mad money funds. But in the winter I work two jobs so I have less time do other activities & more funding for the KiteLife. But I could sell the old Plymouth & buy a hundred kites... But the Dark Side hasn't pulled me that far, yet.
