  1. Great news....... Everyone should thank the Medford Police Department. Let them know how the "kite community" spread the word to support Brett, and how nice it is that they followed through and got the kites returned. Not many outside our "family" understand this kind of loss, and what it means to get these kites back. You can thank them here: http://www.ci.medford.or.us/FormPage.asp?FormID=24
  2. I think it will be more like 15 years, but if it goes like the last 35, it will sure seem like 3. It's been a real fast and exciting ride.
  3. We had a nice Christmas breakfast. Lynn is wrapping a gift for her dad. We will pick Clif up later this morning and bring him to our condo. We will not only be celebrating Christmas, but also our 35th Wedding Anniversary, yes, we were married Christmas Day, 1973. The most important thing we will be celebrating this year, is Clif's 100th Birthday. Clif was born on Christmas Day, 1908. This is a most special day for us. Merry Christmas to all of you, Lynn and Jim
  4. I have lived in California for 66 of my 68 years. I have not been in all of the states, only 49, but always seem to return to California. We have a home, with workshop etc. south of Sacramento in the Delta, but cold in the winter. We have a Condo in Southern Orange County which is great year round, but condo fees are high. Sure, Southern California (you can't beat the weather) is crowded, but we have learned to deal with it, get off the freeway at 3:30, leave very early if going north through LA etc. Since taking up kite flying we have found that, most generally, the farther we get from the surf line, the worse the wind. Also, on the west coast, in the afternoon with an on shore wind, the sun is not in your eyes. This may seem like a small thing for some, but not for us. Our solution........We just bought a 27 foot travel trailer which we can park or move from place to place in Southern California, and Arizona as we wish. We will sell the condo and base ourselves in the trailer from mid fall through mid spring in Southern California somewhere within half an hour of the coast. We will go north to our home the rest of the year, and travel from there with our 17 foot Vintage Airstream, mainly the Northern California, Oregon (Carl, we promise not to stay too long, just fly and spend money) and Washington coast, flying our Revs. We are going to try this for a while. If we don't like it, we'll try something else.
  5. Had a bridle break on a vented at WSIKF this year. There was a big "pop", almost like a spar. Control got very strange, very quickly, but no crash or damage to the kite. This kite has hundreds of hours on it, and being vented, gets lots of high wind abuse. We carry extra bridles, so after a good look at Lynn's vented, I replaced both. Like Watty says, it's just part of the game.
  6. The AKA web site calendar lists most events. I believe it is up to the organizers of events to get that information posted. http://www.aka.kite.org/cal.php?year=2008&...t_day_of_week=1
  7. JD Sorry we missed your birthday yesterday, but know you had a good time in England. It is raining in Long Beach, and today has been canceled. We'll miss you in Crescent City. Lynn and Jim
  8. Lynn and I had a nice afternoon at Delta Park. Got to fly a little, yak a little and got a tour of Theresa's kite shop. Fun day. We are now at Seaside. Flew on the beach for about two hours late afternoon. Had to walk a little north as they have set up 100 Volley Ball nets at the turn around for a big tournament. Will most likely fly at Sunset Beach tomorrow afternoon as the beach in Seaside will be loaded with people.
  9. and FYI....#823 in Vancouver has RV spaces too Thanks, that's good to know. Will check it out. Lynn and I had a great time at Berkeley today. Flew with iQuad in the mega-fly. There were sixteen.
  10. We plan to tow our little Airstream to the Elk's Lodge in Beaverton on Thursday the 7th after visiting a friend in Albany. We'll be free all day Friday, the 8th. If a gathering works out, that would be great. If not, we'll fly anyway. Or maybe visit Powell's Books or Wink's Hardware. Or maybe just go to the Black Bear Diner and eat our brains out. You can hurt yourself at the Black Bear Diner you know.
  11. How about a week from Friday? the 25th? or the 1st? Sorry, got my dates mixed up. That would be two weeks from this coming Friday, the 8th of August. Lynn and I plan to be in Beaverton visiting an old friend. We will have Friday free, so thought we might get in some flying.
  12. How about a week from Friday?
  13. What John said............me too. Very handy, this new electronic gadget stuff.
  14. Steve Lynn and I were planning on coming to Brookings this year, but due to issues with her 99 year old father, we won't be there. Will you be at Crescent City for Labor Day weekend? If so, hope to see you there.
  15. That's good news.
  16. It's OK John. We'll see you guys at Berkeley unless something really good or really bad happens.
  17. In post #4 I asked if Summer Heat was August 9th and 10th, and in post #5 Brian said "Yup", so made plans to be there. I got those dates from the iQuad site as well. Since it is the following weekend, August 16th and 17th, we won't be there. Previous plans put us elsewhere. Oh Well........maybe next year.
  18. Lynn and I both fly Revolution 1.5s SUL Standard Vented They are about 7 1/2 feet wide and about 32 inches high. We use them for our own enjoyment as well as flying pairs and teams at festivals and other gatherings. We usually fly on 100' unless there are more than three or four flying, then we go to 120s. We only use 90# lines.
  19. Lynn and I are probable for Ocean Shores. I say "probable" due to issues with Lynn's 99 year old father. We can't leave Southern California until the last week of July, so will miss Brookings, but are probable for Berkeley. We have RV reservations at Ocean Shores and WSIKF. Gotta make sure the old guy is well taken care of.
  20. Is Ocean Shores Summer Heat August 9 and 10?
  21. Lynn and I have tried this. When two people fly together as much as we do, it's not as hard as you might think. We put our free arms around each other and I call the moves just as if we were each flying our own kites. Much like a "three legged race", once you get it going it works out pretty well. Fun stuff.
  22. Check with Penny
  23. I can't even spell thurty anymore. I do remember being 30.......I think it was 30....maybe that was 40.......or.......
