Ejay Posted March 23, 2021 Report Share Posted March 23, 2021 3D printing is also a hobby of mine,,,designed and printed some end caps with a pocket for the knot. I think they will help me with some of the snags. They are a little larger and about a gram heavier than the normal ones. Will be a little more difficult to adjust tension because the tails on the knots need to be removed. Made some LE tees with angle to match the kite, printed on left. Whats cool about printing these parts is the frame size or most any other parameters can be easily adjusted. What do you folks think ... I have had a number of occasions where a specialised part might be useful and particularly makes sense for custom applications where there is no alternative or you want to just do it for the fun of it. One thought I have is durability of the end product. Perhaps too early to say, but that would be a factor in viability. Know nothing about the process, but can you tweak the materials or raw materials to adapt for flexibility or stiffness or brittleness as needed? In addition to the weight factor you mention. Ejay Posted March 26, 2021 Author Report Share Posted March 26, 2021 I print with a flexible plastic (TPU) or a hard plastic, (PLA), the hard plastic prints a much nicer looking part, the TPU is a little tougher to print but it seems to make a flexible durable part. There are many different types and colors of filament which you feed the machine to try and get the wanted results. The modeling software allows you to change most any dimension of the part fairly easily, I am trying to learn the software as I go, anyhow its all fun.
