Mand
Hello to you all. I've just come across the forum as I've got back into my revs, so I would like to seek the advice of the revered revheads on here. I have an old 'cloth' rev exp - the rods have no stickers on them, and a more recent rev 1 sle. Recent trips out have made me decide that I enjoy the exp more. Not sure why, maybe its the extra flex and bit more speed. The rev 1 is also much noisier inflight even after tightening the sail. Generally I fly in 10mph+ , sometimes 18mph+, and I'm very much a beginner - I'm upto side slides, just about reverse flight, not quite upto 'on the spot slow spins', etc. What I want advice on is what to do next. Keep the rev 1 and get smaller leading edge spar - but then will it be just like the exp? So sell rev 1 and get another sort - but which? May like the speed of the 'speed series' - but will I be able to do anything else other than flying from side to side. Rev 1.5exp- is it available as non sle in the uk? How about a vented - but which, and how do they feel to fly in my wind ranges? Any thoughts/advice welcome. Thanks in advance Mand
Mike
The unmarked spars in your EXP are 3 wrap spars. I would strongly encourage a vented 1.5. It will fly in all the wind ranges you mentioned and will be easier to fly in reverse and do the other moves you mentioned. You can take the spars out of your EXP and use them in your vented kite. They work well in the kite for much of the wind range you're talking about. When the flex gets to be too much in high winds you can put in the 4-wrap SLE spar that comes standard with the vented. In high winds you can do well with that spar, despite what some folks may say. If you want to avoid the SLE, you may want to see if you can order your vented with the 4-wrap skinny spar (1/4" diameter) instead. The vented may be my favorite kite. If you want to have a complete package, order a set of 2-wrap spars as well. It's great flying the vented in lower winds with the 2 wrap spars. The spars will also lower the wind range of your EXP. ant man
rev 1.5 vented with a exp 2 wrap LE is the best setup ever
Mand
Thanks for that advice. How do you put the exp le in the 1.5 instead of the 1.5 sle - do the end caps need to be swapped as well? How about the B series vented - comes with 3 wrap and 4 wrap spars , so good wind range. Mand
ant man
you dont have to sawp endcaps .. the SLEis bigger and wider then the 2 wrap the caps fit inside the SLE with the rubber rings protecting the bungees. the smaller LE the caps fit over the ends so its as simple as slideing the 1 out and slideing another in . i like to do it like this 1 open the kite from the bag and lay it flat on the ground the end caps should be both off 2 take one of the end rods your are going to put in the sleeve the 2 wrap for example 3 as you slide the 1 rod in gently one of the rodes already inmside will come out 4 with that rod in take the middle rod the one with the ferrels on each end lock it on to the other rod and slide that in to and as you do that another inside rod will come out 5 last once all your rodas are in check to see that they are all conected properly and just put your caps on each side and your done if this is done right it only takes seconds to change a LE for diffrent winds i always carry frames in a sepreate bag so im ready to change for anything
Penny Lingenfelter
Ok, so you have a 1.5 and your next step should be a highwind kite. What to do with them? You can slide sideways.. Can you slide facing any direction in a large circle? Can you slide your pivots to create a circle of circles? Can you walk, rock and roll? Walk up/down/ diaganol in forward and reverse? Reverse and forward walk across? Wing tip spins off of all four tips foward and reverse? Lay it flat and fly it? Full window reverse circle? Ground slides facing all directions? Do you have your brakes? Can you stop it any where-anytime and hold it? Ok, I'm at lunch, so I'll stop there. These moves not only vary from kite to kite, but also mph winds will affect your actions. Do you fly to music? This will help you improve and find new moves. Enjoy.. soon you will be flying shoulder to shoulder with us all. MrDenny
rev 1.5 vented with a exp 2 wrap LE is the best setup ever Doesn't the EXP have a 3 wrap LE? I think that soon, talk a wrap associated with a certain kite will be a thing of the past. I totally enjoy flying the vented with 2, 3 and 4 wrap all round and mixing them up. I mix them up with the standard 1.5 too but, the vented seems to be more fun, if the wind permits. I finally took the LSE out of my bag and leave it at home. I accidentally got 2 wrap LE for my kite instead of a 3 wrap...but boy what a difference it makes? P
Baloo
Just get one of each B series, and a decent set of lines. You are set for near zero wind to "oh my goodness I cant stand up in this" If you dont want one of each go for B vented, you get 3 + 4 wrap in the deal but order the 2 wrap frame as well. Also make sure you get the pigtail handles as well. Got all the control you want and all the frames to swap out. Order them from US, surf the web, you will find you pay loads less that way but have to wait for postage. I used Theresa at Thekiteshoppe, she was WONDERFULLY helpfull. Then Practice, practice, practice, and have FUN FUN FUN.

Thanks in advance Mand Since you don't like the Rev 1, I would sell it and get one of the folowing: 1. Since you like speed, I would suggest a speed series, or the Rev 2. 2. for a vented kites, I would recommend nothing but the Rev B vented. 3. The best allaround kite, I think, would be the Rev B. This kite is as fast as the EXP, is very controllable, and manages in a VERY large wind range.
Penny Lingenfelter
Ok, Pat, but you better bring wind. Actually it would be nice to find a neutral ground close to Seattle/ Tacoma/ Olympia for lessons. There is a gentlemen looking for some assistance in Olympia. We need to make this happen. I've got two weeks before Lincoln City. Where shall we meet? BB Penny

Think it will be a rev B vented, maybe with 2 wrap frame as extra.May look at ordering from the States. Penny : I haven't heard of most of those moves , so wouldn't know where to start practising! I can see many years of flying/learning to come. Thanks Mand

BB Penny Holy Cow...is Lincoln City really that close?????? If you are talkin' about SEA, TAC and OLY...we might want to think about the BEACH......Ocean Shores... Westport????/ You know the flying areas better than I. Let me know what you think. I will of course guarantee good and steady wind. Any other suggestions are always welcome. I have to drive all over the place with my job...so driving a little does not bother me. Also, my wife is flying a lot more over the next couple of months(flight attendant) due to my missing nearly a month of work in May with some medical issues, so I will have MIA as solo daddy while she's gone.....It's killing my weekends...but I'm sure I can work something out. (It's not every weekend....so far only the ones with Kite Events that I REALLY want to go to!!!!! As a matter of fact, Mia and I might head up to Vancouver this weekend for the Festival there. I love going with her and it really gives us some good 1 on 1. I just can't fly while I'm there...can still check out the event, meet and hang out with people, etc. Let me know what you think......By the way....where do you live?????
