JoneZ
Made my own top and bottom leaders (there were only 1 knot on the std ones.). Wish me Luck!!!
Guru4tru
lol Thanks man. Hey!! Looks like we have almost the same sail pattern!!! lol Looksies! ALRIGHT JON!! Congrats on your NEW REV.!! (And a most beautiful one at that!!) So, we'll be learning together, although I'm sure your learning curve will be a bit more to the vertical then mine--especially with JB and others assistance, but I'll have the weather in my favor for awhile and if I get up there, or you down here, we'll work out a little routine with our (almost) twin Black Rainbows!! I'm happy for your happiness!! (That makes being 30--not so bad!!) Keep It Up! Duane PS There is no escape from the DARKSIDE now! "Evil is a word used by the ignorant and the weak. John Barresi
Jon, you'll need to nearly double the length of those top leaders. (not kidding) See my PM.
Baloo
Yep, and maybe even shorten the bottoms too. My tops pretty much reach the bottom of my handles. Never used the last knot on them as yet, however I am sure I will some time. Better to have too long then once you are sure of how long you might want them trim them off. If they are too short they are just that, too short!! Should add however, if they are right for you, then they are right.
John Barresi
Yep, bottoms needn't be more than 2"-3" in length, they're fixed length pigtails. I do recommend the longer tops, but other than that, we'll compare notes on Friday.
Hedgewarden
lol Thanks man. Hey!! Looks like we have almost the same sail pattern!!! lol Looksies! Yup, and Spz0, your's is even closer to mine - pattern and geography wise. Might meet you someday at Long Beach or Delta Park. We'll make everyone jealous. JoneZ
Ok, someones gotta explain this to me: About the length of the leader lines. Just for sh!ts n giggles, I hooked my top leaders on the very last knot (farthest from the handle), and the bottom lines on the knot closest to the handles. That has to be the MOST uncomfortable hand position I've experienced -- I had to adjust my hands so the bottom handles were practically touching the top lines (if ya dig), in order to get decent lift. So,, whats with the long top leaders? I just don't get it. If I tie them off at the midway point, its so much easier to control, and so much easier on my hands. Im new to the theory, so go easy on me folks. lol
John Barresi
Comes down to line tension and hand position. It feels awkward at first, but you'll start to understand and appreciate it after a few hours, I promise you. Thing is, although it may not seem like it, you're probably still controlling the kite primarily in a static body/arm position. JoneZ
Wicked man. I'll give all these a look over tonight.
JoneZ
I have been pretty static in my body motions when flying. I don't think I can handle that much at this point, until I get the basics mastered,,,, fly up, hover, fly down. Invert -- fly up, hover, down -- slides, etc... The hands in that cocked position (for forward drive) just don't do my wrists good at all. hehe. All those years of computer programming gave me a nasty bout of carpal tunnel, and ulnar nerve issues. by the looks of it, I'll be able to cancel my gym membership once I really get into quad flying, by the way you're movin' out on the field. lol

Here are couple of great topics to check out on the Rev forum until I get a hold of you on New Years... http://www.revkites....-or-brake-line/ http://www.revkites....-handle-tuning/ K Im starting to get the theory a bit more on handle tuning. I can see how this tuning (in theory) would really be beneficial in higher winds, but not so much in the lower winds. Then again, its just something to get use to -- like getting use to holding dual line straps with 3 fingers as opposed to putting your your hands through the wrist straps. I just need to get use to the rather uncomfortable wrist position, and making it work for me. I've never wanted to fly so bad as I do now. lol Damn snow/rain... hehe
JoneZ
Whats to be said about putting your pinky fingers behind the handles, as opposed to gripping the handle? That would make it much easier on the wrists, and I don't really use them for anything asides from leverage (as stated in a post of yours I read) anyhow. JoneZ
LoL. My beauty is in a class all its own. That way, it's guaranteed the Goose. hehe Although its (and I say IT because it hasn't spoken a gender to me yet) name eludes me, Im sure in more airtime it'll speak its name to me. John Barresi
Pinkies behind the handles is alright, as long as it doesn't limit your ability to change hand position on demand. Trick is locking the handles with thumb, index and middle finger, laying loose with the bottom two fingers. Also, turning your hands slightly sideways, assuming an "a-frame" position with the handles will ease the stress.
JoneZ
ah yes. A frame makes a difference for sure (holding handles now). It's really foreign to me (the hand positions), and something Im sure I'll get use to. Rev's all washed up, waiting to get dirty on new years day! heheh. Im getting sick (I think), but hell or high water, IM THERE!!
