wind range of 100 foot tail on a dual line.

I've never flown a 100 foot tail, but I do have one that's 80 feet. When folded flat, it's about 3" wide, and yes, it takes a good 8 - 10 mph, preferably 10+, to lift it off the ground, and fly successfully. Of course, the tail does slow the kite quite a bit, and will drastically limit what can be done with it, however, a tail that large will definitely make a statement in the air, and draw quite a bit of attention. I agree with Rob, though, assuming that your kite can take the wind, and it should (it's rated 3 - 24 mph), you'll have a much better experience, closer to the 15 - 20 mph range. :cat_lol: Ought to be a real sight !

Now, the down side of long tails, is folding them up, once you're done flying, especially if that 15 mph is still hanging around. I've found the best way to deal with that, is to have one of those plastic grocery bags in your pocket, and use it as a temporary stuff sack. Then, when you get back home, out of the wind, it will be much easier to deal with....... :ani_victory:

my kite can handle the wind no problem. itll be going so slow with the tail it shouldn't be a problem. i fly it 20 plus all the time. thats when i think the tail will look its best. now im not sure but im assuming it will want to turn a lot with the high wind and slow to move forward. all the videos i have seen they look fun. im thinking ill fly the 50 stack when the wind is below 15 and the long tail when its over 15. im not a huge fan of tricks any ways i like the big shiny fancy loud things. ill give it a shot this weekend at Lincoln city if the wind is right. itll be a learning experience.

now will the drag from the tail require heavier lines? i have the regular 150# i fly now in higher winds and im wondering if i should use my 300# lpg line. any thoughts. i hate trying new stuff out at festivals when everyone is watching but ill hide on the side and play with the new toy.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but ever since seeing one of these tube tails in a video, I wanted one. The only dual line I have is an old Premier Ventura (I think?) Which is on the small side (60"?) so I'm looking at the Prism Hypnotist. Would that be a good choice to hang a 100' tube on?

Cyphert...Get some video, or at least photo's of you flying that tube!

Ten mph is frustrating for sure. It sure draws a crowd though. Kids love playing jump rope with it. So does Paul De Bakker. Is was fun at Lincoln city late in the evening. But it was a constant rowing to keep it in the air. Needs probably 15 to be happy. There are no upper wind limits in my world.

I flew my 100' tube tail for the first time the other day. I was on the "stock" (80-85'?) lines that came with my Hypnotist. Had the kite up and the wind was blowing 8-10MPH so I thought I'd give it a try. I did have to pump it to keep the sail loaded at times, but I figure at 12MPH I could fly it without moving back. 15 would be perfect. I do have a 150' set of lines for it, and when I get down to the coast you can be sure they'll come out.

Funny you say that. One of the things that suprised me about my tail was the weight of the fabric. It is significantly heavier fabric than the fabric in any of my kites. The tail, along with the very nice attached heavy duty swivel, weigh in at about 360 grams! My Hypnotist flies it well starting at about 10 mph. I can fly it at 8mph but it's work and I have to move around.

I have to pump my arms the whole time I did it for an hour at Lincoln city to let the little ones play with it and to keep people away from the dark side. Not hard to do with a big tail! I may look at just getting a little one. I think I also need to adjust my bridle pulling on the tail just sucks my kite out of the sky.

Maybe 2 50' ribbons and I can put them on my Rev...

Done that!! Hooked both to my center loop with another piece of line larksheaded on, using the tails from my Walas! I did use just one, going from tip to tip, but could feel it every time I accelerated!!
