Russ Wilson
Yeah, I read similar comments about the Diamond vs P100 in a separate forum post. Since I can't get Greenie replacement rods, I'm curious about the new Diamond rods - I see them on The Kite Shoppe website with the description "Black Diamond shafts are back, and better than ever!" Does anyone have experience with the new and improved Diamond rods version 2.0?
Lisa Bernard / Kiteworld
No need for spongy kites
Wayne Dowler
I think the "new" diamonds are only in the Reflex size - 5/16", not the 1/4" of the older rods. Might be wrong, but .......with everything they put out using the "new" size rods, it makes sense. Just looked - yep 5/16", not 1/4'
Russ Wilson
You are right Wayne - only 5/16" with springs. Doh!
Lisa Bernard / Kiteworld
I don't want to sound dumb but I think I might've missed what kite you specifically needed them for....,,, greenies?

Russ Wilson
Lisa, I'm flying a Phoenix Ash for low wind conditions. Was referring to the Green Label Diamond shafts I have - the ones Revolution seemed to have quality control issues with. The wind gust that broke my spar today might have been over spec - meaning my fault. However, I suspect part of the problem traces back to the Green Label spars. Wayne Dowler
"Greenies" refer to the label used on newer Rev rods. There is a green band on each end of the silver ID label. These were made with questionable materials, questionable QC, and tend to break in conditions the older rods handled with ease. Some one here flew both types of rods in identical sails - the green label broke, while the others held. The worst seemed to be the diamond and race rods, but the label is on everything now. I understand that they discontinued the 1/4" diamond rods altogether.

Russ Wilson
The Phoenix Ash is made by Bazzer in Australia - if you got used to the Revolution Pro the Phoenix is a great way to go. I thoroughly love my set of Phoenix's.
Wayne Dowler
Bazzer Poulter - used to sew the "B" pro line, but struck out on his own. I fly 5 of his sails.

Wayne Dowler
OLD rods were gold, then they went silver, then they added the green bands to the silver labels.
Russ Wilson
There are lots of shaft options out there. The rods I fly with the most are my two sets of "Black" Race rods - I really hope I never break those because they are wonderful.

Russ Wilson
They were sold prior to the Green Label rods - probably 2013-2015 time frame.
