Ritlee
Last night was flying my kite by flood light, and had a couple of curious visitors come out and try to take my kite. A pair of brave foxes came over and chased my kite all over, I'd make a pass, they'd chase it down, turn around they'd chase it the other way, fly it up to zenith they'd stare at it. Finally wanted a break and landed the kite, and I had to go out and bring the kite back to where I was relaxing because they were trying to run off with the kite. Even then the one fox I got pictures of, came up within 6 feet of a group of about 10 people to try and steal the kite. Attached are some pictures, the close ones just had the kite between the fox and me. He was a brave sucker. Checking out the kite. Tasting it, and trying to drag it away Anyone else have wild life encounters?
SHBKF
I was trying to fly my Prism Snapshot 2.5 in a pasture just above my home a few years ago. There were five horses resident but I did not think they would be anything but afraid of the good sized kite. The location is poor as the wind swirls & gusts but I wanted to see if flight was at all practical in the field. The herd was curious about the set up as I laid out the kite & lines. I chased them off a couple times but one horse was really interested. I would launch the kite, fly around a little, then have the foil fall out of the sky as the wind shifted. That one horse thought it was game on. He grabbed the foil next time it was on the ground & took off with it. I dropped the handles & ran toward him trying to spook him into dropping it. He ran a bit then dropped the kite. I had to chase off the other critters to keep them out of the lines as I packed up. That day I learned not to fly in inhabited pastures. My kite still has a green grass stain on the sail. I guess he had his mouth full when he grabbed the kite. SHBKF
John Barresi
That. Is. Awesome. My favorite wildlife encounter was flying my dual line (a Shiva by Cavalier du Ciel) in Taiwan super early in the morning and a large eagle of some kind started tracking my kite... He never swooped or anything, but we hit a kind of vibe with my kite nearly straight overhead, the two of us just gliding back and forth together for about 10 minutes.
SparkieRob
Very cool, unless he bit it! I've had magpies swoop and get very aggressive with my rev 2 stack but NONE of my other kites. kwmf
Aside from the usual fun with dog small and large ... I've had a few occasions where birds of prey track my kite for a while. Out here that's usually a prelude to an attack run so I'm always ready for that when they drop their landing gear or tuck their wings for the dive. Love it when it happens though ... nice energy
cerfvoliste
Do foxes fly kites? You bet they do... No Matter Where You Go, There You Are.
