Hiya... I've played with duals for about ten years. Looked at the quads off and on, but was a little aprehensive about trying them. I tried one a year ago. I had real difficulties flying it, but found that it was something I would enjoy learning to do. Unfortunately, I got tied up with other things and all but forgot about it.

Anyway... my wife got me a Rev 1.5 SLE for my birthday. Woot!

I flew it on Sunday and managed to control it. Got it up and tried some easy turns. All in all, I was pleased. I can fly this thing. Winds were probably too strong and it was like a horse. I'd get it calmed down and hovering nicely right in the power zone and then a gust would cause it to bolt for the sky. Wow! What a pull!

My gawd I am so hooked. :)

I'm reading through the forum and finding out all things I don't know. I suspect that in the next few months, I'll be curious about mods, but right now it's perfect.

Sandman, if you're hovering, you're well on your way to control. You'll love it!!!

The 1.5 is just about my favorite Rev. Particularly when the winds are aound 10-12 mph.

Keep on enjoying it, and your zippers will rust on the dually bag!!! :)

PS You might let your wife try it too.

My wife has tried my dualie. She didn't like it. It's too fast, two noisey and when it bolts she sort of loses her mind and starts waving her arms around. She does like the dualie parafoils though. I may have to get one.

I've been flying more and more lately. I'm starting to get really comfortable with the kite. Yesterday, a friend of mine brought out his Rev Blast. Good gawd, I love that kite. The slides are just fantastic and I liked the fact that I could really manhandle it with little fear of stalling.

Well, its certainly not the fastest rev, nor the trickiest one, however, its precision is unmatched for a quad line by anyone. Its quiet grace and beauty. :revangel:

Monkey nailed it, "grace and beauty" ! Any info on wind conditions and kite set up? Its looks like a Sedgewick rev 1 but the framing looks more flexible that a SLE.

Both John and I (me, because of John's EVIL INFLUENCE on my flying) tend to fly on the lighter leading edges. The day this was filmed was pretty light so, I'd guess he was on a 3 wrap leading edge.

I used to love SLEs, but, I've since gone back to the lighter ones for nearly all conditions, except on my vented one in high winds. The additional flex can really be exploited once you get used to it.

I usually use a 4 wrap leading edge, 2 wrap verticals.

I was on a 2 wrap... Regular frame is 4 wrap.

If you get a Rev I, you'd generally want a 4 wrap frame... NOT the SLE that they traditionally sell it with (far too stiff).

My suggested wind ranges for framing...

4 wrap w/SLE leading edge: 15-30

4 wrap frame: 5-20 mph

3 wrap frame: 3-14 mph

2 wrap frame: 0-8 mph

I've watched that one a few times. :revangel: At this point, I don't think it's the kite that is limiting me. It's me limiting the kite. Once I get past that hurdle and become more proficient, I'll be looking to the Rev 1.

...or is this the wrong way to approach it?

Not necessarily the wrong way... For sure, get comfortable first.

You can do all that stuff on a 1.5, it's just that the Rev I is more docile, EVER so much more precise and forgiving.

But, the 1.5 is where you want to be while you're still beating up the kite. :revangel:

Once you're beyond "crash stage", the Rev I will lead you by the hand into much more precision and control.

Now you have me wondering if I should get the Rev 1 before the Blast. :revangel:

Decisions decisions.... and only three hundred some odd shopping days until Christmas. :)

I think it comes down to one thing...

1. Do you want to FLY...

2. Or do you want POWER...

The Blast will give you big pull, and lots of power... But limited control.

The Rev I will deliver control, and more to do in the long term.

Now lets not forget the Power Blast 2-4, or the Sonic, or the shockwave....and then there is the Vented 1.5 and we havent even got into the RevII :) LOL :revangel: And while your adding to your X-mas list, may as well include a Rev Bag to keep em all together for ya.

Dont want to scare ya but if your like me, you'll have them all eventually. Did I leave out the Power Blast 4-8? Wow....to many revs, so little time.

In lighter winds, dump in a 2 wrap frame and its still verrrrrrry flyable!

Aw heck. Just put all the Rev models in a hat and draw them out one-by-one. Then buy them in the order they come out. Like others say, you're gonna want them all anyway. :revangel:

What will actually be best is if you can find someone with the different models so you can fly them and see what you want next. And then next. And then next.

Think I'm going to get a Rev I .. and then lighten it up so I can fly it on the lower wind days.

Nice thing about Revs... You can get one sail, then swap frames in and out with absolute ease!

For the Rev I, I'd also recommend the "SUL" handles... They're a tad longer than the standard Rev I handles, giving more control. :revangel:

Monks, didn't you cover the different handles in one of your REVisions articles?
