Mic Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Do you think a 1.5 vented can fly in that range? I've heard o Revs whith 3-4 vented panels o each wing but never seen one. Any suggestion? Mic Quote

One definite suggestion, make sure to use an SLE rod for your leading edge... I've never had one out in THAT much wind and it'd be an animal to control, but, it may fly. Well, "may" is the wrong word, it WILL fly... Just be very careful. Quote
Jason Paul Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 That's a lot of wind. I've seen a few homemade versions that would handle that. Generally, they use a lot more venting (or almost all venting), or just have strategically-placed bits of sail suspended within the frame. As for a stock Rev, I don't know about a vented 1.5. A vented Supersonic might hold up, but would be very fast. I would think your best bet for a stock one would be a vented Rev 2 if you can find one - or get a custom. Jason Quote
Mic Posted July 19, 2006 Author Report Posted July 19, 2006 Thanks for your tps. i asked because probably i'll go to the stack european championchip in France at Fort Mahon and i heard that winds are very very strong there (sometimes gusty to 60 mph). I don't compete but i want o enjoy flying in those extrene conditions... if i have the right "animal" I never built my own simil-rev so it seems a bit complicated to start with a multi-vented one. Just for curiosity... do you cut the venting panels after you've assembled the sail or not? Thanks again, Michele Quote
monkey Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Just for curiosity... do you cut the venting panels after you've assembled the sail or not? I leave mine as is, I have a few vented revs, a "regular" vented 1.5, a custom one that has 3 smaller strips, and 2 vented ones. Quote
monkey Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Do you have some pictures? Not currently, however I'll get some together for you. Wait, I have one of my rainbow shot recently in Seaside Oregon by Chuck Wiley Quote
John Barresi Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 You might also try doubling up the leading edges... I love a 3-wrap and 4-wrap leading edge, in the kite, side by side... Doesn't get too stiff for good control, but is much stronger. Quote
Backspin23 Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 ok that has to be one of the coolest kite pics I've ever seen Quote
John Barresi Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 We use what used to be called "Rev I SUL" handles, but are now shipped from Revolution as the standard handles for their 1.5 kites. Quote
monkey Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 ok that has to be one of the coolest kite pics I've ever seen Its now framed in my house too! Quote
Penny Lingenfelter Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 ooooohhhh~ Kewl picture Monkey. I've flown in 35 + winds. The rev II vented is surely the best stock kite for those winds. Anywhere I've been with those winds the vented 1.5's have had to come down much sooner then the Rev. II's. Be careful out there. BB Penny and good luck in France! Quote
ant man Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 nice pic monkey as for the 40 mph wind question thats a high wind a vented 1.5 or vented supersonic would be a good choise. guideworks also makes a heavy wind deca but i dont know if it will handle 40 mph Quote
