  1. Thanks also to everyone who let me know about the problem so quickly - took us a minute to go back and forth between the forum software people and my server techs to identify the exact problem.

  2. I want to share a story about a relatively new friend in my world of kiting. Early this year I moved on from tails material to making kites from "proper" materials. Having made one in honor of Air Force Tradition and with the Air Force Symbol I called it Yonder in a nod to the Christmas giveaway riddle I held in 2017. Midnight Royal was One of my first endeavors and involved mixing nylon and poly in in a Hadziki wing. It was a 1.5 -ish sized version of Yonder. Larry spoke up and wanted one of my kites with the Air Force Symbol since that branch of service was so integral to his life. I took my time and placed the Air Force logo on Midnight Royal to create Yonder's bigger Brother. This was one of the first non-tails kites I ever made. And I sold it to a friend. By this point, it was already a given I had sold this to a lifelong friend. We only flew together once when I walked him through the basics of his kite. One thing I shared with him that day stuck with him when it came to hand control. I asked, "Are you cheering or flying the kite?" Like many newbies his motions were lateral instead in a direction that would influence the kite path. We did not live close enough together to fly together so, I decided as part of the deal he should have a membership to KiteLife which I paid for eagerly to help him get the best remote instruction I could provide. Tuesday, I got a call I never want to receive.. My friend passed away over the weekend in his favorite chair. There will always be an empty place in the sky for this new flier who was eager to learn and honestly one of the most genuine people I have ever known. @Roadwarrior26 Rest in Peace, Larry. You are already missed..

  4. John, Here is a link to my video files just uploaded to YouTube. This is the 1993 AKA convention. I also uploaded the files from the 1992 Northwest Regionals, and 1993 WSIKF events. I placed them in separate playlists with index in the description. Let me know if I can do anything to improve upon them. I was a novice in those days, and didn't capture everything I now wish I had. Please feel free to share the url's wherever you wish. Oh, sorry I spelled your name wrong inside one of the videos. I corrected it in the description. -See you in Long Beach next week maybe. I'll be with the blokarts and buggies. -Steve Irby

  7. As many of you know, The options for Purple Icarex these days are either Purple or "Discontinued" I was able to get some of the discontinued colors in limited quantities.. Something Special is of course in the works.. Stay tuned.. These colors are 5th in line behind other projects that need to get completed. Pics of all, back lit and on the floor.. The Plum looks BLACK without the light behind it..

  8. Wow. Thanks to everyone for the thoughtful responses. In short, I've gone from "end of life?" to "good as new" in response to this thread. rporonga and several others nailed it right off the bat. Several of the c-clips holding the elbow connectors had come loose. The left upper was an inch low, left lower was 2 inches low and right lower was an inch or so high. I'm embarrassed that I didn't see this myself (it was obvious once primed to look at it). I had checked that the elbow connectors were flush against the c-clips but hadn't measured them for symmetry. I repositioned them to the factory positions, glued the c-clips in place and she looks to be good as new (minus a little Tedlar tape). The slack sail noted by Jon T (thanks Jim for emailing him) and Wayne was also remedied by moving the elbow connectors to the correct place. Thanks again to everyone.

  9. Thanks. I've been lurking for a long time... hard to get into making quad kites without becoming familiar with this place!

  10. Hi everyone, We've had a great summer in Ontario this year so far - earlier in the year I rekindled my love of kites and gotten my kids into it as well. Recently got into 2 line stunt kite - been challenging so far to get more than 1 minute of flight time - we have lots of hot days, but not many breezy days to let the wings soar! Fell in love with kiting as a child back home - built my first sled kite at the age of 10, and particularly love single line deltas - we recently flew a small delta (50 incher) about 500 m (~1500ft) over Grand Bend Beach - out on Lake Huron. What a feeling to have my kids look at this kite so high, holding the reel, feeling the pull on the string....then as people pass by asking "What are you doing?" - and watching as a 7 year old says "Flying a kite...look way up - see that yellow dot in the sky?"...........the response and reactions are just amazing! Even more amazing when they look at the reel and ask, how much more string you got?.... another 500meters! Hoping to learn more about Dual line kites and explore such a simple yet humbling hobby again!

  11. Hi, and welcome to the forum. Ontario is my favorite province. Spent lots of time in my youth west of Thunder Bay in the Shebandowan area, fishing of course, with a bit of water skiing thrown in. If you have any questions about any aspect of kiting, this forum is the right place to be. You're going to love dual-line kites and what they can do, and maybe even get into quad-lines someday. It's a journey that will make you smile.
