  1. Takes forever to cross the wind window. 😂

  2. I've been doing this since 1992, but had a particularly great outing at Kasai in Tokyo yesterday after not doing it for more than a year... (photos courtesy of Iijima-san) The dual line (a Shiva by CDC) is attached to my belt loops (steering with my waist), and the Rev (custom B-Series) in my hands. Did a lot of stuff I'd never done before, to mention a few: Simultanious spin landings. Flying the dual around the stationary Rev (while rotating the Rev - matching a wing tip with the dual). Docking/refueling (flying the dual into the "V" of the Rev), dual on slightly longer lines. Anyway, just wanted to share... I hope it makes you want to try something new and crazy!

  3. Flip each handle once so the flying line supports the brake line about halfway out. Or just fly with one twist for the whole lineset. The intent is to let the flying lines support the weight and drag of the brake lines which generally are not as tight. Otherwise the wind can catch a brake line and apply inputs which you did not provide.

  4. I'm flying the Red White and Blue kite on the right. The other two kites are on 120's at the bottom of the dune. For relative distance the camera was right beside me. The shadows on the sand also reflect the relative flying plane for the three.

  5. One point, Would recommend flying with a single twist on each side. otherwise wind resistance give you a ton of brake drag. A 1000ft spool of LPG or Skybond gives you a nice quad set of 250-ish. Will be a feat to get equalized the first time or two. It is both relaxing and addicting to fly on the long lines.

  6. I have the same kite. It's a standard 1.5

  7. Still a bonus frame is a good thing. 2 Feathers aka a 2-wrap is a good frame for low wind, especially if you have the non green trimmed version.. Hands down favorites among Rev fliers tend to be (in no specific order) Black Race, Green Race, Diamond and 2-wrap. Each has it''s strong points and weaknesses. Use the 3-wrap to learn/gain proficiency/experiment. Use the 2-wrap when the wind is low and you'll be amazed at how well you can tell the difference.. You are right, it's not a race frame BUT the race frame was designed to "give you most of the performance and stiffness of the 3 wrap while approaching the weight of the 2-wrap." FWIW, I keep a 2 wrap frame in my Rev Ghost SUL.

  8. Looks like a regular 1.5 but the second frame is a bonus. Rev does use that pattern for their EXP series now but those have the Reflex IIRC. My guess would be you have a regular Rev 1.5 with a spare frame. (nice bonus) It's kind of hard to tell in the pic but it doesn't look like the extra frame has the green trim around the label.. If so, that is an even bigger bonus..

  9. There is a bit of a delay between input and reaction but like so many other things in our sport, you get the feel for it fairly quickly. Many people think it goes slower but in reality, it's only a marginal decrease in speed due to line drag. It's just the longer lines and distance to the kite makes it seem so. As you can see on the side slide, it reacted to inputs pretty well. @John Barresi was able to axels.. For me, Flying a quad on 240's is quite relaxing. Not a stop and pop reaction but you literally can sit back and fly under good conditions.. And the cool part is, the lines are long enough that even people who know kites, will look around and try to figure out who's flying it??

  10. june of this year marked a year for me in this sport/hobby/addiction and i ordered a pair of custom Skyburner Ticas to celebrate...see post above...well they arrived mid september and i have been flying them at least a few times a week since. most days the UL is now the first kite out, taking the place of my Widow Maker UL Pro, unless the winds get below 2. at roughly10.5 oz and with a bigger sail area the Tica UL is a like a bigger, slower version of the 8.5 oz WMP UL. for me slow is good as my main interest is learning freestyle flying and having a little extra time plus a bigger visual helps a lot. the Tica Standard is more of the same...slow and stable when you want/need it to be and unstable/tricky/fast when you're ready. i've reached the point where i'm practicing the basic tricks... axels, spins, fades, turtles, etc but still lots of cleaning up, beautifying needed and just beginning to put the tricks together into routines. these kites have pin pointed my problem with the fade...when going from an axel to flare to fade my timing was a little early or late and this was obvious on 40' lines...after a bit of practice on the shorter lines i went back to 80' and was doing better. ive found that tweaking the bridal and/or the standoffs helps too on the fade and turtle. i really like my design and colors...recently i was practicing kickturns and cascades when i noticed some vultures circling overhead probly thinking a black goose was in its death throes below them. if they're out fishing or scavenging they will usually cruise over to check my kite out. near misses or collisions are a little more common than i would prefer. the only color change i would make is maybe a light grey for the black bird panels on the ultralight as i recently grabbed the UL by mistake and launched it instead of the Standard in 12 mph gusts. both kites have a cool birdlike, highpitched whistle on fast passes and a respectable buzz when loaded up. i want to add a big thankyou to all the Skyburner people involved for great kites and service...Jon and Marieann Trennepohl, owners and Devon Cobleigh-Morrison, designer...whats next guys? hint hint

  11. So latest update: All fixed! Good to go! Just need to build up some coordination and endurance in the leg. May even salvage a little outdoor flying this year!! If not, at least indoors. For all of you that had me in their thoughts - Thank you!

  12. Update. Surgery went really well. Home recouping, limited in weight allowed on repaired leg. Stiff and sore, but still a bit mobile. 3 weeks check up to see if I can put more weight on it. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers!
