  1. Greetings everyone! Hailing from Portland, OR, I picked up a couple dual line kites a couple years ago while at the coast, which reminded me of my old dual line stunt kite from when I was a kid. I have recently been taking them out for more flying fun again, which has rekindled my interest in kiting and upon searching for more information online, I found this site. A few members here have already been very helpful in answering some of my questions in the forums, so I thought I should take some time to formally introduce myself. I'd also like to know if/when there are any local events happening, because generally I think that more kites = more fun! 😁 Take care ~ J

  2. Oh ya, I totally get that. It’s going to be a while before we attend any large gatherings for sure. At least being outside we can practice safe social distancing with small groups.

  3. Welcome to the forum. 🙏🏻 I'm not aware of any events scheduled at the moment as I think everyone is still feeling iffy about running or attending one just yet, except online in virtual form which doesn't quite scratch the doing itch. I'm dying for a gathering, used to attending over a dozen a year, nasty withdrawal for me. lol

  5. Hey everyone! Long time no talk! Hope everyone is doing well! Haven't been on here in a while. Unfortunately don't have as much free time to devote to kites as I would like, but I haven't given up. I'm still flying as much as I can, and have added several new kites to my collection. Haven't even flown most of the newer kites I have....🤒 Let's see.... since the last time I talked to ya'll I have been flying a few times. I was finally able to use the prism 75ft. tube tail in some decent wind. I put it on my trusty/beloved prism Quantum and put on a pretty good show at the beach. I also managed to do my first tip stalls! That was also with my Quantum. It was at the end of the wind window, so probably not that impressive, but I managed to do it and get the kite back in the air several times. I was pretty excited about it. lol... That same day I had just about everyone at the beach checking out my kites. I was lining myself up so I could hover over people at the edge of the window, and everyone was loving it. I got so many people coming up to my asking about the kites, and I offered to let them all try it. Most people were scared, but a few people did. One guy crashed my quantum harder than I have ever seen a kite crashed. I thought for sure something must have been broken, but it wasn't, all good. I think I might have got a couple people hooked that day. Anyway.... just wanted to say hi. I hope everyone is good, and I will talk to you all again soon!

  6. Hi guys, I am 41 years old and just getting into kite flying and excited about doing some of those tricks many seem to do so well and enjoying the view. Covid and the work from home has really pushed me into seeking a way of getting the family out of the house and doing something outside and together. I got my single line parafoil and my 5 year old with his PJ Mask kite and we went to the field nearby and loved it. Since then the wife has gone and also enjoys kite flying. Currently, I own the single line parafoil from In-to-The-Wind, Quantum 2.0, and a Synapse Cilantro.

  10. My 1st kite was a Widow ng. Could be the kite or maybe I'm just special but I learned 3 tricks on it the very 1st day . Nose dive left, nose dive center and nose dive right. 2nd day I learned how to repair a broken LS.

  11. I've never flown a 100 foot tail, but I do have one that's 80 feet. When folded flat, it's about 3" wide, and yes, it takes a good 8 - 10 mph, preferably 10+, to lift it off the ground, and fly successfully. Of course, the tail does slow the kite quite a bit, and will drastically limit what can be done with it, however, a tail that large will definitely make a statement in the air, and draw quite a bit of attention. I agree with Rob, though, assuming that your kite can take the wind, and it should (it's rated 3 - 24 mph), you'll have a much better experience, closer to the 15 - 20 mph range. Ought to be a real sight ! Now, the down side of long tails, is folding them up, once you're done flying, especially if that 15 mph is still hanging around. I've found the best way to deal with that, is to have one of those plastic grocery bags in your pocket, and use it as a temporary stuff sack. Then, when you get back home, out of the wind, it will be much easier to deal with.......
