  1. Oh, I wasn't under the impression that was his first flight at all. I just love his videos. I find them well put together and inspiring. And I'm judging my quad progress only against myself and what I skills I set out for myself to do. And backwards isn't so hard Actually, the pilot is @Flynhi
  2. @Daougie This was the Michael Green Rev guy on youtube I mentioned to you last night.
  3. I'll definitely move it out a notch. It launches easily, so stepping back won't be an issue. I've heard of that 'ball' concept. It's a good one to keep in mind.
  4. Let me clarify: I have a B with stock leaders with 6 knots on top, 2 on the bottom. I currently have my top knot set to the 3rd in, and the bottom full out. On this setting, my kite feels like it accelerates very quickly and I don't have to work much to get it to move forward. Daougie has an SLE with stock no-knot leaders. His kite felt like i had to work to keep it moving forward. I found it much easier to kept some hovers going on the SLE, but mostly because it wasn't launching when I tried to stop it. And I just need more practice, and a knot change. I also have a set of John's leader in the mail.
  5. Hey, it was a pleasure meeting you and trying out your Rev. I still think the lack of a proper set of adjustable leaders makes your Rev feel super brake heavy. Mine felt like a rocket in comparison, and I'm probably going to adjust them for a slightly more brake heavy setting. After flying your rev, I finally managed to get that left facing hover on mine. Though it still shot off into space when I tried to flip from right to left.
  6. Wonderful kite. What colour did you get? Including me, there are 4 people with Fire Quantums where I fly, and no-one flies the Citrus or Blue.
  7. I am indeed at flying at Clover Pt. I fly whenever I can get time and there's wind. But therein lies the challenge. Generally I try to get out on a weekend at minimum, but never any set time. If I head out Tuesday or Thursday, I'll keep an eye out for you.
  8. Yeah, that's about right. 5-6 knots on top, 2 on the bottom. They seemed a little crappy to be honest. I had to adjust two of the knots since they weren't equal out of the box.
  9. No, it's not really shooting out of control at all, nor does it feel locked into forward drive. I have the stock B-Series knotted leaders. I have the top set to the 3rd knot in, and the bottoms on the last knot (has 2). I think my hand position is generally relaxed. I'll be playing around with the knots/hand-position the more I fly. Next time I see Terry or one of the Island Quad guys, I'll get them to check out my setup too.
  10. Maybe 'cliff' is a bit too extreme a term. But initially the amount of control and over-control you have compared to a dual line is overwhelming. The guy that helped me out advised be to sort of dangle the handles on my index fingers (as opposed to gripping the handles -- he then ranted for a while about why rev even puts foam on the handles), and just let the wind take the kite and adjust it to go where you need. I found that really made the kite far easier to control. Soon I was flying side to side, rising/falling, forward/reverse with no major issues. There's always that momentary "What inputs do I use to correct this thing I have done" that I have a limited frame of reference for vs. a dual line. All fun. And yes, it definitely puts a huge smile on your face. Stopping and reversing mid-flight never ceases to amuse me. It's always so unexpected.
  11. Finally managed to get the new Rev out for it's maiden flight (there was a no-wind-blowing attempt a few days ago) over the weekend. Simply amazing but what a learning cliff this kite is. I managed to do a bunch of beginner stuff with only minimal crashing. A guy flying a gigantic sled kite gave me some excellent pointers, and that made all the difference too. I can't wait to get out there again.
  12. I had originally ordered the lime/black/white combo, but the guy from the store contacted me and said that he had miscounted stock of that colour and I could have a a few others or a refund. I opted for the one I got, and frankly, I think I prefer it to the lime combo.
  13. Ask, and ye shall receive. This is soon after I got it, and set it up to awe everyone. Most people were awed, some were not. Even though I've seen revs up close, I never truly appreciated how huge they really are. And I thought my Quantum was a big kite.
  14. After examining the kite more fully, I am thinking it might just be the plastic disc from the cutout of the top spar holder. It seems to fit precisely, so it probably just wasn't removed properly during assembly. Thanks for the reply. Image attached properly:
  15. So my B-series Rev was delivered today. Beautiful kite. But when I was assembling it (at work, couldn't wait) a little black disc popped out of somewhere. I think it might have been the vertical spar end caps, but I'm not sure. It looks like: Anyone have an idea of what it is? Will
  16. Was the inspiration for the kite Curious George by chance?
  17. @riffclown Hey, thanks for passing on the questions and concerns I had. That's most awesome of you. But I pulled the trigger on a B-Series Rev today from a kite store in Canada. Should be here next week. I figured that between the US currency conversion, possible tariffs at the border, and a somewhat unproven sail (seems to be very few reviews/impressions around) , I'd be better off buying a Rev from within Canada. That said, when it comes time to get a vented sail, maybe the Freilein would be an excellent option.
  18. We have these crazies that fly right at Clover Point where everyone in Victoria seems to fly their kites.
  19. I prefer the expression "A jack of all trades is a master of none". Which is exactly what I appear to be asking for. I guess I'll look at Freilein or Rev full sails for now then.
  20. So I guess I need to either pick a full sail or a full vent to best cover the most likely wind in my area rather than to cover all available wind. And then down the road pick up the one that I didn't the first time around. Makes sense. How rough is it to fly a full sail in the higher end of the wind range? Is it more of an issue of control, breakage or both?
  21. Anyone have any experience with the Freilein Exodus Mid vents? I was considering purchasing one as my first quad when the time comes. I figure the mid would cover a wider wind range, eliminating the need to get a full sail, and a full vent. Those can come later.
  22. Does anyone know where one can buy Freilein kites in Canada?
  23. I was at Clover during the week during some high wind. I was making some hard turns, and somehow managed to pop both lower spreaders out of the center T and the same time. Poor Quantum fluttered to the ground like a smashed butterfly. Found out later I'd also managed to break the ferrule loose from the center T. Bit of crazy glue, and it's as good as new. So yeah, the Quantum can take a pretty good beating.
  24. Hey John, Thanks for the warm and automated welcome. I live in Victoria, BC, Canada. I've always liked flying kites, but had only ever flown cheaper sub-$30 kites (single and dual line). Within the last year, I bought a Prism Snapshot 1.2 while on vacation, and was hooked. Soon after I procured a Prism Quantum and couldn't be happier. I generally fly at Clover Point, and once was lucky enough to chat with a man named Terry from Team Island Quad. He took the time to let me fly his Rev, and gave me a bunch of pointers and tips on Quadlines. So now I am also lusting after a Rev too. Cheers, Will
