  1. Doing fine. I promise it won't come un sewn
  2. Your seams look really nice. The mylar is difficult to sew and look that good especially under side. Good choice as no stretching at high stress area. Please reconsider any glue or adhesive. It will usually gum up needle and other parts. Just pencil in lines of needed and go slow. Little sew clips ie. Mini cloths pins work great too. Michael
  3. That is pretty heavy. Maybe use for a lot bigger kite or just go ahead and fly that beast in some hurricane winds. Might be alot of fun and you don't have to worry about pounding it into the dirt.
  4. Don't know technology very well , don't know how to send pictures except by email. Send you a picture of my first kite if you want? Note 6 stand offs cross connected. Very taut trailng edge quiet. Second kite more trick happy wide aspect with very taut overall sail, a handful!
  5. Know your dilemma. If you fold Dacron in half and try sewing all three layers at once if probably won't be close to a nice curve. Might try sewing like you said a 1/4 seam to one side of edgings then fold crease Dacron and sew to sail again. Will be way straighter and stronger with 2 seams. That's how I did all 3 stunters. Avoid velco as it is a pain to sew and look decent. Easy too just use bungee and nock. Attach to the bottom spreader is a cool way to do it. Maybe you can do it another interesting way. Long bungee will give more options for tautness. Your doing good to be at that point already. It is slow go but worth the effort. Having fun is the main thing. Colors will pop! Michael
  6. A locking slip not will do the same thing if the bead tends to slip.
  7. Since you said you are not very good at sewing you are going to make lots of mistakes so just don't be too concerned with looks. Have fun and you will learn alot to apply hopefully to your next creation. Keep tension issue on your mind and look at back of seam alot as you go.
  8. That beast sure won't tear. Try it in hurricane winds. Looks really wide aspect. Suspect it will be very trick happy and twitchy like I love. Tricks before you know it. Good times ahead! Michael
  9. Hey been there. Sew the biggest panels together first. That way you will be closer at the end. Spot tack all panels probably won't work out. It won't come out even and flat. Might just try and get R &L sides equal. Believe me it isn't going to be the same dimensions of the original but that really don't matter. It's your creation so just have a few and sew away. Improvise is half the fun. Velcrco is a pain to sew if you want good looks so might use nocks and bungee easier and more adjustability. Don't over think everything. It will fly great! Michael leach line is a nice addition use at least 4 standoffs for overall tweeking?
  10. Ironic I made a Fulcrum copy Quad out of similar colors. Same blue and flourecent pink but black trim around every pattern piece. everything like stained glass look. Lots of fun work ahead. Wierd how it comes alive only at the very end. Happy sewing! Michael
  11. Sorry last note I use 3 standoffs per side to have even more adjustability. Adjustability for a new build is nice to get the most out of a new design or especially a copy. Done
  12. One final novice builder suggestion. You can totally change the kites attitude by changing the aspect ratio by small increments. Just put a ferrule in the top and bottom spreaders to make them adjustable. I just tape with super sticky tape and it holds in place and easy to adjust. Leach line is great to make significant kite performance also.
  13. Good attitude. It will fly and all the hard work will be worth it. Bridle suggestion, make as many adjustable points as possible. I like the multiple knot and larkhead adjustment. Easy quick and precise. Have fun! Michael
  14. After making 3 stunt kites when I am a terrible sewer I can recommend one principle, It is fine to deviate from the exact plans because you have so many variables in play. Just keep working with what you already have and adapt accordingly. It will end up being your own design if it did like mine. It will still flyy just fine. Looks are not as important as reinforcing where needed. I'm really rough on kites so learned to use a stronger lower spreader. Yours are all the same so might want to change. Maybe spine too if you crash like you are trying to destroy the kite like me. Have fun. Plan for that at Kite Plans.Org. send pictures when done! Michael
  15. Need advice on kite lights that are the lightest weight. Just enough for standard fighter for night fly. Michael
  16. Hey Gregors ,. Think Kites and Fun Things might have what you need or call Mary Ann and she would know where to get. Very friendly and helpful. Michael
  17. Stick to it. It doesn't seem like you are getting anywhere till near the end. A good put together kite will last a long time unless I get a hold of it. Error on getting little stronger spare if weight isn't a big issue. Let us know and send pictures! Michael
  18. Had a hot tub delivered and they could not use the truck Crain so the used an inflatable bladder to lift 500 lb up 5 feet. It worked great. I noticed a couple repairs with tape and they used Flex Seal Tape which has some stretch to it and they love it. They tried Gorrila Tape also but with out some stretch don't work. Might give it a try. Ace Hardware sells Flex Seal products around here. Worth a try? Michael
  19. Hey Greg , Michael here. Get all my kite supplies at Kites and Fun Things. They have most everything you probably need. Friend of mine knows them well and their customer service is stellar. Don't think they have transparent mylar. Never heard of transparent icarex. Into the wind gave me their last piece of laminate reinforced clear mylar with order several years ago. Call and they can tell you where to get it. You sure that is what you won't. It's heavy and used sparingly to reinforce weak part of sail. ie. Along spine. It sure won't tear but hard to sew and make it look good. Which I don't care about. Call Chuck at river city kites in Chattanooga for reasonable prices on sail boat ripstop. Used it on three kites and love it for the price. Think most is 3/4 oz. Also has large assortment of building supplies. Fabric store ripstop is usually too stretchy. Good luck and let me know how it flies. Michael
  20. Never tried it but have made lots of cheap mylar stunt kites that have doubled up a few times. Delta being fairly similar should stack with some experimenting. The back kites because of keal not splitting air might misbehave some. Long line between kites might help. Just try multiple tow ponts and you should have a whole lot of fun. Let me know how it behaves. Fly High Michael
  21. Rob, plans for frame? Seems the LE rod makes a big over all difference in wind range and handling. I think I will stick close to the light wind frame for Fulcrum on Kite Burner site. Enjoy light pull with lots of feedback. Let me know how it respondes. Good we can always change rods easily. Michael marmarasmichael@gmail.com
  22. Hi all flyers,. Will try to make it to the Wright Festival. Both sisters live in NC so maybe can plan a trip. The Chattanooga Festival was the best we have had in 25 years. Maybe will befriend some of you! Michael marmarasmichael@gmail.com
  23. Hey Riff, Really interesting colors and pattern. Made a Fulcrum quad with a stained glass outline with the left and right sides reverse of the back. Odd but interesting too. Will send you a picture when it it's framed up by Chuck Jones. Got the spar specs from Sky Burner site. 3 different options. He is way better at figuring what might work best. The last dual line I made 8 foot had under built frame especially bottom cross when Chuck gets ahold of it. Was intended for light wind so used 150-250 CXL skyshark rods for rev quad build. They are supposed to have good rebound for quicker response? I'll send a picture of it. Looking forward to flying the sort of Fulcrum. Chuck saw John B in Florida springtime. Chuck speakers highly of him. Tell him to keep up his good work ethic. Awsome flying videos and tutorials. Fly High Michael marmarasmichael@gmail.com
