  1. Hey Nick - How much more of that "girlie" colored sleeving you got left?? Need to get some Man's colored sleeves, son!!
  2. CB - one thing to avoid is when you get down close to the handles - DON'T let them spin!!! Whether you leave the lines on or take them off, don't let them spin, putting twists into those lines at the end of doing everything else correctly!!
  3. I added my own little twist by using 2 stakes for the handles!! That way I can separate them as far apart or as close as I want!! Gives me a bit more room to keep that finger in between the pairs if need be!! I only have 2 sets of handles and I use either at any time, so I remove the lines from them all the time! I only have so many line sets and so many handles to choose from, but with both loose from each other, I can use the set and lines I want for that day, more easily!! Barton - I use a similar code as Nick, just different colors!! And my "sharpies" are always in my bag!
  4. Twists - are just that - twists, not tangles!! Try this when you next go out: Put a finger between the two sets of lines (l + r pairs) and try to keep it there as you unwind the lines! You might have a couple of twists, but they should come out as you unwind and come to the end of things! Or when you have unwound completely, hold the two sets, one in each hand, and stretch your hands out to the side. It should take almost all the twists out, leaving just a few to unwrap at the handles! Try these two methods and see which works best for you! PS: there is no method that starts with all the lines completely perfect every time! But getting it down to a much more manageable situation is the goal of any method! Reading your post again - are you hooking up your handles first, staking them out, then unwinding and hooking up the kite last?
  5. Nick's right on the rods - you don't get them seated fully - SNAP, they can break at the connection point!! BAD!!!
  6. PS: that pic looks like everything is good to go!!
  7. Just make sure the bunjiis are pulled out all the way, knots snug to washers!! Sometimes tying the knots, the bunjiis are pulled up too tight to the LE pocket! Pulling them out to the end makes things much easier!! When you go out to the field next time, take a second and make sure both sides are the same during setup!! Easy to get an attachment point wrapped up and suddenly things are unequal!! Just get in the habit of looking things over for sameness!!
  8. Oh and by the way - the bunjiis for the LE are snug, but should be loose enough to easily take rods in and out of! Make sure the washers and bunjiis are pulled to their loosest position, but all knots are still tight! Put the knots to the inside and caps outside for max center area!!
  9. Save the martini til we know what's going on!!!! The left side looked easy to diagnose, but that right side - YUK! Seeing it in a full top to bottom view would let us see it better!
  10. http://www.revkites.com/forum/topic/6020-bridle-replacement/#entry92850 This should be Watty's video!!
  11. Looking closer at the pic - it looks like the right side is upside down!! It shouldn't have a small loop anywhere on that bottom!! Look at Sky Puppet's pic- see the little hinge at the top, formed by the top piece and the vertical piece coming together?? That little loop looks like the one that should go at the top, not the bottom!! The top flying line attachment is on the horizontal part, the bottom attachment is on the vertical piece! Kept looking - maybe that it's just knotted on itself, but??? Remember - both sides should look the same - top line attachment point, hinge from sideways piece to vertical piece, bottom attachment for lines!!
  12. Pix of what you have now, so it can be confirmed you got it right!!!! PS: I went back 6 months of posts and didn't find Watty's video here, so it must be on the Rev forum!
  13. From the pic you posted - the left side bridle is right, just hooked up to the kite wrong!! That long leg you have sticking out should be the one attached to the bottom cap and the flying line should be attached to the short leg hooked up to the cap now!! That right side is/was probably OK but, with you undoing knots and what, it's probably messed up now! I'm not a bridle maker, so unless you feel very confident you can get it to match up with the left side - get another bridle!! New bridles come in 3 parts - 2 identical vertical sides and a horizontal piece!! Watty has made a simple video showing how one can be replaced! It would either be here or on the Rev forum or both places! Do it step by step and your issues with the bridle will be over!! Anybody got a pic of one correctly hooked up to a kite?? Might help to show him how it should look when correct!!
  14. Major dislike!!
  15. Whump - when you need some speed! Edit 2-12-14
  16. I use a red and a blue bead to ID my handles, and a red and a black sharpie to ID my lines! My color code keeps me straight on setup, rarely do I get it wrong!! But it's what works for ME, not everyone else!! If you don't need the ID - good, I use mine and generally get it right!!! Whatever floats yer boat!!
  17. Don't confuse the issue with big words, Nick!!!! I do hope any "noob" out there understands this is all in jest!!! But the "O" ring idea is valid, as long as you have "normal" sand!!
  18. Seen a few of them, didn't know they were already available and in shops!! Looks like they used some of the vertical elements from the "B", and integrated the vents and graphics into that concept!! I'm wondering if the kite is based on using the "B" profile or uses the SLE profile!! There is a slight difference between the two, with the "B" more curved and the SLE straighter! Also the vertical rods are slightly more towards the outside on a "B" than an SLE! Puts a bit more air in the center for power! All info is IMHO, if anyone knows different, please correct me!!
  19. For upside down spars - mark them with an "O" ring, right where the caps end!! Keeps sand outta there too!! Left and right - ??
  20. Try putting them in front!!!! NO FUN!!! Remember, the Rev flies differently that that foil, so don't expect direct comparisons between the flying styles of the two!! Just remember to - GIVE TO THE KITE!!!! And BREATHE!!
  21. Nice - maybe use 2 sets of handles to create a set of quotation marks "x" instead of (x)?
  22. Still, it all comes back to - Time on Lines!! The more you put those handles in your hands, the more about how the kite works, what it takes for you to do something, what you like as a setup, etc!!! There is no substitute!!!
  23. Nice mod, Barton!!! You will have a long ways to go on lowering costs - the anchor and screw method only runs a couple of bucks per set of handles!! Used them that way for a long time before moving on to "no-snags"!
  24. Nick - I disagree on waiting!! Just another thing to retrain!! Why start out with "bad" habits, then try to introduce "correct" ones?? Here's a good way to start with leaders: Setup as normal, but with your top lines in the middle of your knots. Get everything all straightened out and ready to fly. See if you can launch, if not move the top lines in a knot and try again!! Repeat til you are able to launch relatively easy!! Learn to fly it about! Remember that setting for next time as a place to start. After a few flights, try flying at least 1 knot further out on top!! As you progress, you should find your "sweet" spot on the leader that fits your style of flying!! PS: the knots also allow you to adjust as winds change! With just the factory pigtail, you only have one knot, and can lose control in high, gusty winds, very easily! The long adjustable leaders let you tune some of that (if not all) out of your setup!! All IMHO, of course!!! Your mileage might vary!!
  25. We'll leave all the running to you young'uns!!!! Talk to me when you get older, crippled up, etc!!!!!
