  1. I only use a 4 wrap in extreme cases, but you may need it more, if the only thing for high wind you have is a f/v!! Just watch the LE bend, if you're comfortable with how it looks, then keep flying! If it looks too bent, switch! Myself, I switch sails before frames, most of the time!! Nice thing about variety in your sails!! PS: that's why they made an x/v, to handle BIG winds!! On the line issue - always flown on the 90# sets so far!! 30+ mph!! On an x/v!!
  2. It's funny, but sometimes the simplest stuff gets the most attention!! Flying team gets so much interest from the bystanders!! While the complex stuff is impressive to other fliers, passersby are all over themselves watching the simplest things performed by a group!
  3. Got as much chance as you, Karma Boy!!
  4. Not logic - surrender is more like it!! I like my chances!!
  5. Been there, done that!!
  6. Be prepared for anything and everything! I've seen weeks of sun with no winds to rain and blowing!! Last year it was nice weather wise with mid to full vent winds most days! But we did have a few light days too (Zen time), so it's always a mixed bag up here!!

OK, now that Kite Party is over, I've got one big invite for you all! If you can, make your way out to Long Beach, Washington in August, for a week long celebration of all things kite!! Probably the biggest get together of fliers anywhere, nice beach winds (hint hint), usually sunny (but not guaranteed), just a hoot!! Some of us make it even longer coming early and staying after!! There's info on their website about dates and a day by day breakdown of the happenings!! https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CEEQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.funbeach.com%2Fcalendar%2Findex.php%3FeID%3D4969&ei=3pQgU7fUCNHwoASKhoHgCA&usg=AFQjCNH-Ax7Deaz0omDnpR9RE-kFoykZ9A&sig2=KBdMhez0IILA-n4X2gzRGg&bvm=bv.62788935,d.cGU Not sure if the info has been updated yet for this year, but it is close anyway to the usual pattern! Hope you can make it!!
  8. Compromises, compromises!! Never ends does it???
  9. WAHHHHH!! I'm feeling abandoned!!! Just kidding of course!!! Do it while the idea is hot in your mind, it will be memories never lost in time!! Hope for the best for both of you!! Too bad I can't run away and join the flying circus!!!
  10. What about wet?? Rain, rain, and more rain!! Sun?? What's that?? Soggy sails, lines, clothes!! YUK!!
  11. Yeah I think it was Nick's!! He just never connected to the glider's slower pace compared to his "zip around the sky" style of flying!! He doesn't have a place to go indoors either!! So no luck there !! Just wasn't his cuppa tea!!
  12. That big window is why teams fly on the 120' length!! Gives you so much more room to fill the sky or create patterns!! Just about the first thing I'm using if room for them!!
  13. And that was with 4 wrap rods??? Damn!! Try some Race rods in it when there is light winds, you'll love it!!
  14. U N F A I R - FOUL ! Suffer like the rest of us and be satisfied!! PS: I had forgotten you had the PB!!
  15. Hey Nick - 200# quad sets??? Whatcha flying - a locomotive???? I used 150#s with my Rev 1 back before I knew about vents, but 200#s??? Hook 'em up to your truck and tow it!!
  16. Interesting!!! Haven't had them out in that much wind yet, most of it has been 2-3 mph swirly, gusty, crappy! But they do glide well!! I'm using 2 wraps for verts, as I only have an LE worth of rods!
  17. Any rod set and stock bridle could be your basis!! You need a LE pocket (sleeve) no matter what you try! What you do after that...........???
  18. My sub is due to renew - ya know my thoughts!! Wind Therapy for all!!
  19. You know that isn't happening!!! Nice thought though!! 8 - 14 mph, eh? Sounds like that midvent is gonna see a lot of airtime if that wish comes true!!
  20. OK, that makes sense! Having Patrick make them correctly, would be the way to go! I knew he tried several venting options before settling on the present, but didn't know he had released any to the public!!
  21. The rain is always tough, your sail gets wet, starts to get heavy, and everything changes! A water logged sail just gets so heavy! It's one thing to get wet, then fly it dry! It's another when it gets soaked and never dries!!
  22. Yep, that's "her"!! Flew her at WSIKF 2 summers ago! Actually flies well in reverse too! No venting at all, just what you see!! Another nickname - "The Flying Thong"!
  23. If I'm not mistaken, that twin vent is a homemade vent! Several had tried different venting options before Patrick settled on the venting used now, after some trial and error!
  24. You did notice that the design of that kite, has the rods in front of the sail, not back like regular?? Something to do with the lack of sail, I'd think!! Alden Miller has one we call "Vickie", after Victoria's Secret, basically covers the rods and an outline, but not much more!
  25. Send it to you?? MAYBE, my fair dinkum!!! Just maybe!!
