Sounds reasonable. -

Well, looks like that number is over 100. My guess would be 1000. Gonna be a while for me. -

I bought the 3" gomberg tube tail for sky writing. -
Would you believe there was a time when I could look at a color and give you a close match in hex off the top of my head? Comes from too much time spent coding a website in Notepad.

wind range of 100 foot tail on a dual line.
rexracer replied to Cyphert's topic in General Sport Kite
I flew my 100' tube tail for the first time the other day. I was on the "stock" (80-85'?) lines that came with my Hypnotist. Had the kite up and the wind was blowing 8-10MPH so I thought I'd give it a try. I did have to pump it to keep the sail loaded at times, but I figure at 12MPH I could fly it without moving back. 15 would be perfect. I do have a 150' set of lines for it, and when I get down to the coast you can be sure they'll come out. -

Give that man a cigar! Kevin Schwantz was always down on power, but when his setup was right, nobody could touch him. Multi time world champion Mick Doohan said in an interview that when Kevin was "on", nobody was faster. I feel the Karma flowing -

OK, I'm in! #34 is a good number, worn by a World Champion and retired. Wonder if there are any other MC race fans here? -
Trying to influence the RNG with your KiteLife number?? I've tried that and it hasn't worked. I was just commenting on the kite.

#000000, #ffffff, #a6ff4d Sweet!

I've been dragged around and I'm not afraid to fly most things, but I think I would draw the line at doing slack line tricks with a kite that can yank your arms off!

That's great that you have kiters to gain knowlege from nearby. I live in a kiting desert. I'm still working on bicycle rotation, but I can tell you what I've found. First, you're right in that you want forward on one side and reverse on the other to keep the spin centered. I can do a pretty good bicycle spin at any rotational speed but they still fall. You need to not only rotate, but keep altitude, so when your kite is sideways you need to pump your arms so the top wing is always pulled toward you and the lower is away like you would for a hover, It's a timing thing that I pretty much have down. The part that I haven't mastered is pulling the back lines when the kite is inverted. Once i can get the timing and amount of reverse needed down, my bicycle rotation will stop falling. Of course, steady wind helps. I've actually decided to stop trying to keep my spins from falling since my wind conditions are so variable. I haven't given up, but like JB says in his video, I need to fly with intent, and my intent won't be to keep my spins from falling. I'm going to try to get them to rise! If I can get my spins to rise then keeping them steady will come easily.

You are wise young Jedi. Have not hurt myself much, yet.... I thought the hurt was major yet it turned out to be minor, but the possibility was there and it made me think.

Ditto for me! I'll give it a shot...I love the pull. My Flexi Bullet has pulled me around quite a bit, but I gotta respect the wind. I'll leave it alone if the winds up and it's gusty. It already bit me once.

Awsome! Congrats! make sure to post pics!

You've come to the right place for this kind of info! I've had my Rev for about a year now.Practicing hovers in all positions is key. I find inverted hovers are the hardest, and I'm not alone. One thing that i've discovered is that some things will take me longer, and some things will may not come at all due to my flying conditions. You didn't say where you are or what your flying conditions are. It is definitely easier to learn when the wind is strong, steady and smooth. My wind is weak, bumpy and from every direction most days. If your wind is good, that's great, but if not, practice the basics and try not to get frustrated when things don't look as smooth as JB. I find that I like 50' lines most of the time where I fly. I get a faster, more direct connection and can adjust to the changing wind directions faster, plus I can really see what the kite is doing better. Also you should look at the "flying with intent" thread.

Congrats Kevin! And just think, only 2 more days and another kite is being given away! Maybe the RNG will be kind to me.

We are all, not quite as good as you are ............ If you flew your dual line kites as much as you flew your Revs you would be ! No, I wouldn't. The only reason I can do half of the stuff I can with a Rev is because of John's tutorials. I've watched some tutorials on stunting 2 line kites, but so far I havn't gotten very far. I just got a Hypnotist, and to be fair, it flies much differently than my old Premier Ventura. I may be able to get somewhere with that kite. If I get a chance to go out to the island I may have to look you up and hit you up for some pointers. I do have a measure on the north shore pretty soon...

I love gadgets, but I have to weigh every penny I spend. I'll probably get one someday, but... I recently bought a prism 4D. It's my first low/zero wind kite. That's the choice I made. I can now fly when that wind meter wouldn't read anything, or I could have spent the $100 on the wind meter and it would tell me I couldn't fly. For now, I'll take the kite, but someday...

That is yet another great thing about flying Revs. You can fly it to anything. Slow and smooth (if you're able) fast and swoopy, or quick and twitchy. And name me another kite that you can freeze on a mid song stop or pause, and start back up on the beat when the music continues!

I recently had a really good wind day (for this area) and spent a bunch of time flying my full vent B at the observatory. My wind speeds were way off, too. Now I'm better after comparing with an accurate anemometer. 8 mph is windy. 12-15 mph is a strong wind. 5-6 mph is a stiff breeze. Before doing these comparisons, I would have told you that the wind was 10 mph when it was only 6. I was probably estimating 12-14 mph to be 20 mph. I commonly grab and rip off the tips of some grass and toss it up to see wind direction. I'd say it only takes 2-3 mph for it to fall at a 45 degree angle.

If you want colorful tails, how about trying ribbon for wrapping presents. I've seen many ribbons including real fabric in widths from 3/4" to over 2". I've found the local dollar store to be a good place to find kite decorations.

Well, I'll give you my thoughts, for what they're worth. I thought about getting one, but the only time I really ever worry about wind speed is when it's low. That's exactly when those things are at their worst. Then there's the money. Now that I have a zero wind kite (Prism 4d) I can use that in low wind, and put up a full sail Rev if the wind is higher. If it gets to be too much for that, I put up the vented. The way I look at it now is for the money I'd spend on something good, I could buy another kite. I actually have access to a weather station at the observatory that I'm a volunteer at, and it helped a lot to look at the wind speed and check out the wind and fly. I found that with race rods my full sail doesn;t really fly well 'till it hits 4 mph and gets fun at 6mph.At 3mph i'm backing up. My Vented "B" with 3 wraps needs close to 10mph and flys well with 12. At 15-20mph it's the most fun I've ever had with a kite. I'm waiting for a 15 mph day to fly my new Hpnotist with the 100' tube tail. If I got into kite surfing I might get one to choose how big a kite to use, assuming I had multiples, but for now I know how the wind is blowing by how my kites fly.
