  1. John, I should watch those again. I watched them a few times when I first got the Rev. I would've taken me a lot longer to figure anything out without the videos. I try to do the work with my thumbs, but probably forget at times and go back to old bad habits. I've flown quad foils for years, and got some bad habits from learning those with no instruction. (that is probably partly responsible for my bad wrists.) Revs are a totally different type of flying, they only share number of lines and similar controls. So, there's a bunch of re-learning for me. What do you do as basic exercises ? Fly shapes ? Hold a position for X number of minutes ? I appreciate what you guys are saying about sail pressure, I really haven't taken my top lines off of the middle knot in the leaders. I guess it's time to start messing around & tuning. I don't have much time on the GoPro, I just got it as an anniversary present from my wife. I'm pretty happy with it so far, it would make a great stocking stuffer !
  2. OK, Rev folks, I got some video of my flying... I need suggestions of how to improve. I have been working on my control, but this trip out to the beach, the wind was a little high to practice clock turns & upside down hovers. My wrists are kind of weak from carpal tunnel syndrome, and once the wind goes above 15mph, even the vented pulls too much for me to get good control over it. I know... Mega Vent... But is it just an experience thing that allows you guys to look like you're flying with purpose, and not just zipping around ? I think of JB's dock play videos, and they look like the flying is a lot more planned and deliberate. I don't know, maybe 2 line trick flying has warped my thinking, with that type of flying, there's always another trick to learn, or just learning how do do some tricks better. Thanks in advance... ~Rob.
  3. Thanks John & Scott... the tutorial videos here helped me a lot. I've never flown Revs with anyone else, and wouldn't have gotten anywhere on my own. See, even the vertical sticks are on the right side !
  4. Thanks, John. It's a great spot from September until the end of May, totally empty. During the summer I have to share the space or drive fifteen minutes to find an empty field. The GoPro takes decent pictures, but check out the video ! Choose the HD version...
  5. Yes, that's East Beach right on the other side of the inlet. The backside of Pirate's Cove can be seen in the distance. I live in Port Jeff now, and have lived in the area for over 30 years. I'm interested to see how your pictures come out !
  6. I recently got a Plutz 3, and it flies terribly if there's the slightest hint of wind. Is the P3 a zero-wind only glider ? Or are there adjustments that can be made ? It came with no instructions...
  7. There's a new group on Facebook, IFly2. If you post your question there, it's a good chance that Dodd Gross will throw in his .02. He runs the group, and is the designer of your kite. https://www.facebook.com/groups/221998147943305/
  8. It was awesome, even if the wind was a little high ! I didn't even put a dual line kite in the air today...
  9. I'm not familiar with the Crossfire bridle, if you posted some pictures, I might be able to help more. BUT, if things are as they should be, the kite should be able to roll up out of the bag. Did it come with a tail weight ? Putting some weight in the tail will help it greatly to pitch. Also, don't forget to throw ALOT of slack right after your input to roll up. Lack of slack was one of the hardest things that I had to overcome when learning to trick... ~Rob.
  10. Hey Kitelifers... I had a great day out on an empty beach. The wind was a little high, but perfect for doing some KAP and flying some four line. I just got a GoPro, and it turns out that it's a great camera to KAP with... I used the 12' Double DC... it's a plenty strong, stable lifting platform... A bunch of shots just leaving the ground... (self portraits) A few shots of the beach... great wind from any direction here ! The water is nice & clear this time of year. Easily 20'-30' visibility. The beach drops off very quickly here, if you walk into the water 10', you're in over your head ! Boats are still wrapped up from the winter... The new Rev... I put the 3 wrap sticks in it, and got to fly it a little. The wind was pretty high, so I put it away before something happened to it. At least it got the sail stretched out a little... And a little bit of vented flying with the Kitelife Ghost Deltas in the background. The big DC got pulling so hard, it was dangerous, so I had to take it down. The Ghosts can take 20mph with ease... you could easily hold onto them if you wanted in this wind. Happy Kite Month ! ~Rob.
  11. Didn't know you could make butter from them!!!! Oh, sure, but you just have to milk 100 Tribbles to get enough milk...
  12. Well, the wind report for Sunday is in, looks like it's going to be a nice day, but 10-15mph winds, so I'll probably be stuck flying the vented Rev and some SLKs. I usually get out around 9 or 10, and fly until early afternoon, but later if conditions are good. I have a new camera to try out, so it should be fun !
  13. Hey Pete, I think red is a stock color... I took a gamble on the green when I got mine, and it looks very nice against a cloudy sky.
  14. I hear ya, I need to get out and start working on the house this weekend. I will still steal a couple of hours Sunday morning to goto the beach !
  15. It's forcast to be foggy & overcast, but good wind on Saturday & sunny on Sunday, no wind forecast, yet. That's for the Island, I know the weather can be much different a little bit west. Drive east if you need to fly !
  16. Yes, RNG, save Scott from the darkside ! Send him a good duallie like this Crossfire...
  17. The Echo would be a better choice than the 4D. The 4D has it's place, but I wouldn't get it as your first low wind kite. There are so many better choices... Check this thread... http://kitelife.com/forum/topic/5309-need-a-little-advice-on-light-winds-and-kites/ Not that I don't like the 4D, I have one... That was filmed in wind so low that I had to light a cigarette (I used to smoke...) to see which way the smoke blew. The 4D is just too small to be truly enjoyable... Prism needs to make a Double-D !
  18. Hey there, As mentioned above, the #1 place to get KAP gear is... http://www.brooxes.com/newsite/HOME.html I'm going to get the PICAVET CROSS when I start KAPing again, I made all my own gear, and my rig isn't as stable as it should be.
  19. 6 years later... there's better equipment available now... if you have a Go Pro, it is ideally suited for KAP. No remote control required... it can be set to take pictures ever 10-15 seconds. Just hang it, and let it fly ! http://gopro.com/products/?gclid=CI-l9baTu7YCFQt66wodNVAAqQ
  20. If the shrink wrap it properly shrunk, it shouldn't need extra glue. If you can't move it with your fingers, it should be fine. It is very important that they don't slip, though.
  21. JP, Tip stab ? Spike ? something like that... John would know... Nick, nice E2 ! Old one with Hot Rods ! If that break is right at the ferrule joint, it just goes to show that it is worth the time to physically inspect that the ferrule in the ULE is firmly glued in place by grabbing it & twisting it. If it moves, it could slip further up into the ULE, leaving little to none of the ferrule to sink inside the LLE when you put the two together. That just makes for a real weak joint, and on a curved leading edge kite like the E2 it's extra critical because the joint is continuously stressed. I am guilty of not checking that enough, and it may be why I snapped the LE on my red Fearless the last time I had it out. It couldn't have anything to do with my crashing it into the waves... ~Rob.
  22. I've been flying my 1.5b vent for a couple of years when the wind is too high for duallies. I got at least 50 hours of quad line practice this winter, learned all of my hover positions and I'm working on my clockwork. The new Rev won't be flown in winds over 10mph... I'm going to try to take care of it and not beat the heck out of it like the vent. I don't know if I'll ever take the 2 wrap frame out of it, maybe the 3 wrap, but never the four wrap. I have never even used the 4 wrap set, it's still in the plastic. The cost of the race rods kept me from ordering them with the kite, but if I break the 2 wraps, the race rods will be the replacement. Thank you guys for all the help, you're making it too easy to slip to the dark side. I can't wait to show this kite off at Wildwood !
  23. I use finger straps for light wind flying. A full sized kite just pulls too strong for finger straps in 10mph+ wind.
  24. Hey Ian... I agree, learning how to trick a 2 line kite is a lifelong endevour. Some will get it quicker (usually younger people) and some will struggle for years (like me) learning each trick. Because of the fine line management involved, I wrap the straps around my wrists, and manage the lines with the tips of my pointer fingers, as described in the Prism DVD. If you watch the Dodd Gross DVD, you'll notice that he holds the straps loosely. There's no right or wrong way, I suppose, but I like the straps around my wrists in case of a sudden gust. ~Rob.
