Thanks, Paul! I'll send Elliot this photo and see what he thinks. I have already bought a replacement mid-vent so it is not a rush by any means. This one isn't quite ready for the trash heap, even though my wife would say it is! I may still snag some 3M 9460 tape and with insignia tape and the Kevlar from Rev, may try your repair. I think I read a 'Tedlar Tape' thread where you mentioned success using 9460 for small tears as well? This Rev also has a small (1") mesh separation from the leading edge. Would the 9460 applied both sides over the leading edge and into the mesh resolve or stop this tear? On a prior repair I had the sail shop fix 2 others mesh tears with insignia tape and sewing that were at the classic 'fold' point of the mesh, but this one is either new or I didn't catch it as it is at the point where the mesh is (was) sandwiched into the leading edge. Great comments and advice, Paul, I enjoy reading your posts!

Yup! It would go all the way up to the leading edge.....Zippppppppppppppppppppppppp......with just a little more time in the air. I guess I should be glad the wind dropped off Friday and I moved to the standard Rev or it would already be toast!!! I may attempt Paul's repair or have a local sail shop use Paul's 'how to' guide, as well as their experience doing sail repairs, to get it back from the brink. I am getting a new mid-vent from Rev this week and had them send along an OEM Kevlar 'V' as well to do a proper replacement. The sail maker has some Kevlar as well. I noticed on our new Revs (this one was used) they have WAY more stitching over this small piece of Kevlar. The one shown in the pix just had a single run of zig-zag thread over this critical area. I am going to ask Paul for some clarification in his repair technique when I have some more time...................My taxes are calling with only 3 weeks left!

I just noticed a tear (almost complete) in the small Kevlar patch at the bottom of my mid-vent Rev. I only have Tedlar and insignia tape and am about to go to John's 3 day clinic in Long Beach! I could also snag some rip stop repair tape at REI if that would work. Sadly, it will likely be wet some of the 3 days which will not be good for any patch. Has anyone done this repair and with & without a sewing machine? I think w/o a patch or repair it will rip up to the leading edge and not be repairable. Thanks!!!

Rev Accessories! Aerostakes for Sale!
northwavesailor replied to Aerochic's topic in Kites for Sale, Swap or Trade
We have been using 2, Leshock Aerostakes for a couple of months. They look GREAT and work really well! -
Thanks, Amexpmh, Wayne and SR! We currently each have a standard and mid vent Rev and are using black race frames in the standard and 3 wrap in the mid vent. We have a spare 3 wrap and black race frame. We are going to Long Beach for John's clinic and figured we'd be 'off the beach' if the wind ramped up past the limits of the mid vent so may be buying a full vent. I guess I'll snag a 4 wrap with that kite for BIG wind and we also have the spare 3 wrap along. Still pretty green in our flying, but we both prefer the 'perceived'??? smoothness of the mid vent and go to it when at all possible.

Looking at adding a full vent 1.5B and was wondering if the 80/90# line was enough for higher winds or snag some 150#? Also do most folks use a 4 wrap with their full vent? Thanks!

My B Series Mid vent just arrived. Which rods should I use?
northwavesailor replied to Captainbob's topic in Quad Heads
If John is 'blowing out' a vertical, then at this point in our Rev learning curve, we are not ready for another light weight and $$$ frame option. We need to get used to using the 3 wrap (mid vent) and Race frame (standard) and feel what works (or doesn't) for us! Thanks! -

northwavesailor replied to Captainbob's topic in Quad Heads
Welcome home, John! We are still very much the rookies, but wanted to know how the 'Diamond' frame differs from the others, particularly the black race frame? We fly our mid vent's the most and (at this point in our Rev flying) use the 3 wrap in those. We then have the black race frames in our STD sails. Thanks! -
Wayne??? We met Wayne D. at a kite field in Portland and he had a pretty good list of questions to ask and details of inspection to try to get a 'good' Rev! I'm sure he'll chime in................

Good book on Flying a Revolution for beginners.
northwavesailor replied to Captainbob's topic in Beginners
So...............I finally got the book to download completely! I haven't read the entire book, but I think it is a helpful addition, at least to us, beginners. This info (between my wife and myself we are at less than 10 days each of Rev flying) as well as JB's tutorials are ALL a help at this stage. It may be 'dated' but still seems valid, at least to me! I think there are quite a few flyers on the forum who have progressed to a point where they may not remember the slow progression until things begin to really click. The more time we spend 'in the air' the easier it will no doubt be. At this point, each day is a bit easier, but most things are not automatic at this point. MUST......................... GET................................ MORE AIR TIME!!! Thanks for the link CB!!! -

Good book on Flying a Revolution for beginners.

Just did a 'speed check' and got: Down: 1.95 Mbps & Up: .75Mpbs There are options for 5 to 10 x the speed of this 'cheap-o' DSL, but I keep monthly expenses as low as possible so I live with slow. No way I could do any on demand movies w/o pauses! -

With my slow DSL, the title page took a couple of minutes to load and the book has 118 pages! May be a good book, but not with my ISP and lack of speed................... -
Winding and unwinding Quad Lines, possible solution.
northwavesailor replied to Captainbob's topic in Beginners
Don't know if this question was 'tongue in cheek', but regarding tangled earbuds on your phone, check out a YouTube video called "How to Wrap your Headphones" for some interesting options. Just for clarity... Are you asking about twists (spins in the line) or tangles (tightened loops around loops)? Different animals, totally different causes - might help the discussion to be fairly specific about this aspect. The few times that I used the 4 line winding method, I had twists, and tangles, both. The third time I tried it, I was almost to the point of throwing the resulting tangle of lines in a trash can and getting a new set... I must have walked back and forth for over a 1/2 hour and finally got each line separated from the others, one at a time, before winding them all together. I admit , this was most probably due to not being careful enough in winding and unwinding and the mistakes that could be made doing either of both incorrectly, although I tried to follow the tutorial step by step. The next thing I did was to read forum posts some posters difficulties with 4 line winding and unwinding, and I saw that some other folks also had problems. Some posters even mentioned using two holders or winding the line on the two separate handles. A couple of posters even mentioned that they gave up flying four lines, because of the line hassle factor. This is what got me to thinking about my experience with 2 lines at a time, with zero problems. I tried to pinpoint why the 2 lines at a time method for a quad, would be problematic in any way, and couldn't think of any negative, other than having to get another line holder, and one more trip from the stake to the kite. I then decided that a comparison between the two methods might be interesting, and I could prove to myself which method would be more efficient " for me". I am going to give the 4 lines at a time method some sufficient practice, to make sure I am not making any possible mistakes, and giving it a fair chance. Then I will try the two line method, compare problems, and time spent, and then figure out which one I will adopt. The ultimate goal I want to achieve, is unroll my lines, hook them to the kite, pick up the handles, and fly. I always like experimenting... Now if I can just figure out how to keep the earphone cords on my Android phone from getting tangled up in my pocket. -
Thanks, Paul. I re-read the thread and saw Hasek's link to the DVD from Kite Connection!

Can Shenkman's Rev videos be found on You Tube? I had no luck doing a Google search.
-
Thanks, SR! I was tryng to go to 'sign up here' and thought that perhaps it was like the Karma drawings and you needed to actively 'sign up'. My bride already has a purple/ black mid-vent and purple/white Std. and I could have the identical combo in Std. sail!

Saving Rev tutorials on an iPad
northwavesailor replied to northwavesailor's topic in The Web Site (nuts and bolts)
Thanks, John! Just imported files to iTunes and will use the iPad USB cable to sync from the iMac to the iPad. I figured there had to be an easy way of doing this without using an aftermarket app. -
Saving Rev tutorials on an iPad
northwavesailor replied to northwavesailor's topic in The Web Site (nuts and bolts)
Found it on the Apple Forums, thanks! -
I would like to 'save' John's Rev tutorials to our iPad and bring them along with us. I have looked on the Apple forums and a Google search and found: Clip Grip, Road Trip, OplayerHD Lite and Video Downloader super lite. Anyone using these or a similar app for iPad to save a video w/o an internet connection while traveling? Seems silly to have to download these helpful tutorials more than once. Thanks!

DOAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! as the kids like to say: 'My Bad!' Already ordered it.............The tube (in blue) was only $12.48 (it is listed today at $11.04) + shipping. We do buy a bit from Amazon as well Amazon Marketplace merchants. Does this work for both or just direct Amazon purchases? Is it as easy as starting at the above link to Amazon and doing our normal Amazon purchases? If so, we'll add it to our bookmarks and use it to start an Amazon search & purchases. If it's free money for making purchases you would be making an any rate, someone (Kitelife) should be getting a bit of it.
