  1. I'm in. If I get JB for a weekend, I'll share him with Dragonfish and Brian anf flexikite.
  2. Here you go http://www.ikeclub.org/Forums/viewtopic.php?t=558 At the top right of this page is a search box. I entered "how to make sleeving" and got several good discussions. And get yourself a pair of really sharp scissors. Have fun. Welcome to the forum badger6lr. And keep those questions coming.
  3. The sleeving was too large. After switching to sleeving from some bridle line that I had. It worked much better. I flew for 2 hours today. The wind meter showed ground winds at 25mph. The quad has Sky Shark P2X framing. A P2X is a fairly light weight rod. But at 24" they were strong enough for the wind today. There was no bowing in the leading edge, even during the crazy strong gusts. The little kite was pulling me around a bit. At 4300' elevation I had to pause and catch my breath regularly. After an hour and a half the Sky Bond 120' 100# broke. I switched to 100' 250# Sky Bond which worked real good until I broke an end cap hitting the street. It was a workout. I took some video. I'll post it when finished.
  4. Thanks for the input John. I always wondered why the venting was draped over the verticle spars. I've blown up a verticle spar, flying the 1.5 std in too much wind. It shot back about 50' before it splashed into the water. The last time I flew a B2 std in big wind was last summer. It was blowing in the 25-35 range. The only problem I had was the lines slipping thru the sleeving and turning it into a scrunchy. Learned my lesson on knot tying in big wind. Those B2s can handle a lot more wind than what they're rated for. And today was so calm we were flying the quadcopters outside. Here's where Patagonia is. I can see Mexico from the house. The latest report. It doesn't look like it's going to let down at all.
  5. I guess I'm addicted. Started with one in January. Now I'm up to 23. 14 are home made. Every time I go out I learn something new. Love this hobby.
  6. Merry Christmas to all you kite flyers out there. Hope your day is filled with some wind and flying. I'll post a pic when I'm done playing.
  7. This Thursday looks like it shaping up for a durability test on one of my quads. I'm in Patagonia Arizona at about 4300' and it blows pretty good here. Some days in the 15-20 range, but on Xmas is going to be really nice. I have a slightly vented B2 sized quad I'm going to try out. I'll report my findings.
  8. I'm in Patagonia. I flew for 4 hours yesterday and only 3 cars drove by. The Orkin exterminator guy set sticky traps for the mice. The snake saw an easy meal and got caught up in the sticky trap also. I showed up when he was trying to capture it. It was about 2.5" wide and 4-5 feet long. I couldn't tell you what kind it was.
  9. Arizona has had some good winds the last few days. I was flying the B2 in 20+. Only complaint is that i need to use a hammer to get the kite stake in the ground. I just love the peace and quiet here. But can do without the rattlesnake in the garage. Happy Thanksgiving Flynhi and all you other dark siders.
  10. If the schedule goes as planned, I'll be driving thru Phoenix / Mesa on Sat. Are you up for some flying that day? Give me an address and time of your favorite spot and I'll plan on being there.
  11. I'm going to Patagonia Az for 2 months. The scenery and wind in your video looks great. Can't wait to get there.
  12. I just found this video by Matt Cyphert. He does some very impressive work. You to, John.
  13. Thanks Terry. This project gave me a chance to work with my dad, which ended up strengthening our relationship with each other. I'll be forever grateful for that. The folks aren't getting any younger and it's nice to be able to get along with them better. Time to get together a Bay Area quad team and put one of those harnesses to work.
  14. I'm gonna be at Berkeley from 9-3 tomorrow Sunday. Hope the wind is howling
  15. My first visit to Shoreline was very nice. Andrew and GF Quinn showed up with their new kite. Quinn was showing some impressive new skills flying her kite. There is a small lawn area where you can set up and fly. Another flyer named Rick also brought his newly purchased rev. It was nice to see new people learning and having fun. Fred, a familiar face from Berkeley showed up also. The winds were blowing 5-15 mph. I might be able to get away from work and fly this weekend, but I'm not sure yet.

  17. You busy on Sunday Joanna? Come join us I'll try to get there around noon and stay all day.
  18. I'm thinking of flying on Sunday and I've never been to shoreline to fly before. It's this the place you guys hangout?
  19. You two are so cute. Great video. Love the bowtie ending. Have fun in Lincoln City.
  20. Hi KuRev. I see you're in downtown SJ. I'm doing a kitchen remodel in the Santa Teresa area for the next few weeks. Maybe we can fly someday soon. All this work and no play is making me cranky. I bought a B pro full vent to learn on, and was very happy with everything about the kite. When you first start flying revs it will take some of your hobby money. Then you get hooked, and you find that flying revs is an incredible way to express yourself and have fun. You will spend A LOT of money if you get hooked. At least I did. It's worth every penny.
  21. What was the wind speed approximately? It sounds like you were trying in winds that are a bit too light. What you're describing sounds like the problems I had in the beginning. Not enough wind for a beginner.
  22. I got one of these Brasington Sky Song kites wheni was starting. It's about $27 and flys nice in light winds. I was flying it in lighter winds than the 6mph range it says in the specs. http://www.intothewind.com/shop/Creative_Kite_Designs/Brasington_Sky_Song_Kite
