  1. My Favorite Kite Store at the moment is Kites & Fun Things dot com. The store is owned by Jon and Marieanne Tennepohl, the folks that design and make and sell Skyburner Kites. I have emailed them and spoke with them on the phone, and always get a prompt and friendly answer when I call. I purchased my Niknak from them about a month ago, and even though they had to make the kite because they were out of stock, it arrived at my door in about 2 weeks. I just ordered a Widow NG from them , this past Sunday, and it is being delivered today. Great products, great customer service, can't beat it. http://www.kitesandfunthings.com/ My other favorite store is Flying Smiles Kites run by Cath and Eliot Shook. I recently purchased a couple of Magic Sticks for my Revs, and I called the store prior to and after the purchase, and received all the information I needed. I will certainly order any Rev gear I need from them in the future. http://www.flyingsmileskites.com/wordpress/ Now the other side of the coin. Shops I will never deal with, are shops that won't return voicemails or emails, especially when I am inquiring about buying a kite or some other expensive product. They do that once to me, and I vote with my feet. My other pet peeve is someone trying to charge me $15 to ship a part that is a few dollars, weighs about an ounce or less, and could go in an small envelope with a first class postage on it Then when I email the company asking about the shipping charges, they ignore my email. Not a way to win customers, but I guess some stores don't really care if they have any customers.
  2. I agree, I saw this video this morning that was posted on Facebook, and was thinking the same thing about the lines never getting untangled. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEmJvxCrDx0#t=11
  3. I started another thread about this, but I find the same thing, people seem to show very little interest in seeing a Rev fly.
  4. From what I can gather, Dodd recently put most of his DVD on Youtube, which I have been watching.
  5. Tried calling, always get voicemail, don't return voicemails either. I have found a few dealers that seem to value customer service, and those are the dealers that will get all my business.
  6. What I did with the JB Tutorials and now the Dodd videos on Youtube, is make some notes on maybe one or two things at most, and that is all I work on at the field till I learn it, before I move on to the next thing.
  7. The one I ordered doesn't have the field book, but is $20 cheaper. Don't think the field book is worth that much to me.
  8. Found the Prism DVD for $9.99 plus shipping, so I ordered it. http://store.kittyhawk.com/Freestyle-Pilot-Stunt-Kite-Instructional-DVD-P4031.aspx
  9. Getting my new Widow NG tomorrow, and so I am watching some of the tutorial videos from Dodd Gross, on youtube. My question is, would getting the Prism DVD be worth the $30 investment, in learning the proper way to fly a Delta kite, or does it basically duplicate what the Dodd videos teach?
  10. I wonder if they will keep the B series as well as the NYM in their product line, or will the B series be phased out?
  11. When I first got interested I didn't receive anything back from 2 dealers. That was 8 revs ago! I find that very surprising. I have worked for major companies all my life, and sometimes I would get 50 or more emails a day, requiring complex replies, and if we didn't respond in a day, we heard about it. These Kite shops can't be that busy, that they can't take 15 minutes out of their day to respond to potential customers. Very unprofessional in my opinion.
  12. Learning RC Helicopters with no help makes flying a Rev look like childs play, been there, done that. And as you said, a crash doesn't cost $1,500 either.
  13. Just received a UPS confirmation of delivery for my new Widow NG, tomorrow afternoon, from Kites and Fun Things. On a side note, I wonder how many sales some dealers lose because they don't bother replying to questions on their email, and the customer moves on and buys from another dealer. This is the second time I have experienced this in a month with the same dealer. Won't be bothering with that dealer again.
  14. I had one person ask me what kind of motor did my Rev have.
  15. So to get something that works well from 3 - 18 mph, you need 3 of them. One full kite and 2 kite only, and that's over $1,000.

  17. Make some good points. I am surprised that they would be interested in SLKs. That kite your flying looks great, love the color.
  18. My solution to that problem is I don't tell anyone I know how much I spent........ They think I got them at Walmart for about $10 each.
  19. I have been flying my new Niknak dualie alot lately due to the low and erratic winds we have been having in Atlanta, which don't favor the Revs I have. I fly in two places, a public park next to my home with a path that goes right by the field where I fly, and a College that has a gigantic flying field, next to the admin building, where people are always walking or jogging by. When I started flying the Revs, I was kind of surprised that almost everyone that passed showed no interest or curiosity about the Rev, and the way it flew. Hovering, spins, forward and reverse flight, figure 8's, and they would walk by with nary a glance. Since I have started flying the Niknak, I have had a least 10 people walk over to me, while flying it, and ask me about it. A couple of people today, just stopped in the path and stood there for about 5 minutes watching me fly around. They ask questions, like "Where did I buy it, how long does it take to learn, etc". I wonder why they seem to pay more attention to the Delta Type kite, and ignore the Rev, which is so different from any kite they have probably ever seen? I would have thought that the Rev would have garnered all the attention. Wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?
  20. I would imagine flying close to someone would not be a good idea with the sticks, especially with the 50# lines which are hard to see. Nobody I know, would let me fly close to them, so I don't have to worry about that
  21. Exactly. And it's nice not to see the ends of the LE almost touch each other in a gust after launching in a 5 mph wind.
  22. Wayne, I have flown aerobatic aircraft for years. Most people don't like to get in an airplane, and do spins, and loops and snap rolls. I could talk till I am blue in the face trying to convince people it's fun, but unless they try it, I would get nowhere. I think the same situation exists with the magic sticks. If you don't think they are a good idea, don't buy any. My explaining why I like them, will do absolutely nothing to convince you one way or the other.
  23. Only the black. Just order a B series and $1 gets you the race frame . http://www.awindofchange.com/product/revbarresi.html BTW, I see you are in Brussels. Do you know where Kortrijk is? The company I used to work for is located there.
  24. I think the design was in part , to spread the load more evenly on the frame. It is very apparent the way the kite handles in very gusty winds, and in reverse flight the wing flipping tendency is reduced dramatically, when using the sticks. I think the surgical tubing is a good idea. I got the tape idea from another post I read, where a very experienced Rev flyer suggested it. So far, I see no problems yet with the very tiny piece of tape on the verticals, but if I do, I will switch to 0 rings from Home Depot. The text in blue is copied from the link below. " Redesigned for 2010, and flown by former AKA National Champion Quad-line flyer, Scott Weider, I have spent the better part of 15 years flying with the “Magic Quad Sticks” attached to the back of my Revolution kites, understanding the philosophy behind the design should help you make the most of your flying time, improving your skills with a better understanding of the characteristics of the “Magic Quad Sticks” on a Revolution kite. The “Sticks” were designed to increase the inter-dependency of the wings on a Rev, thus enhancing the ability to fly in reverse, increasing the glide ratio for 3d type tricks, such as catch and throws, and with the interdependent wings the weight distribution across the body of the wing changes the center of balance when the kite is flat, as in axel rotations, the “Sticks” also provide advantages during Flic Flac type moves, in the air or near the ground to execute rolled up landings and then unroll it to easily relaunch the kite, without the extension of the sticks and lines off the back of the kite, these rolled up landings are nearly impossible to do. With the “Sticks” installed your essentially making a flat kite a form of three dimensional box type kite, enabling the fly lines to wrap around the kite to leverage your recoveries to a normal flying configuration. 25. Hey what do I know, I just use them and they work for me. BTW, my Race Rods cost me $1
