NylonSky
So I have a Full Sail and a Vented, this seems to cover any wind range I fly in. That said, does anyone here have all three version minus the xtra vent? If so, what did you gain with the Mid vent? My LKS just added the Mid Vent to their inventory and was considering getting one, but really have my heart set on a Pro. SparkieRob
Mid vent, is a great gap filler but most say it's not necessary. If you want to maximise the middle winds. If you want to NOT have to swap out frames. If you want a sweet looking triple stack. I love mine, it sees more use comparatively than my Std and Vtd. I do have a PoloVTD which is like an XTRA though. If you have a PRO colour scheme chosen, get you mid as a Pro. You know you want to..... Just one more, my Std, Mid and Vtd are all the same colours so when I upgrade it might be easier to sell as a package.
dragonfish
Ever have those days when the wind is kind of fluctuating right around the higher side of a standard (full sail) and the lower side of a full vent? Sure, you can fly either and it will work, but that's the sweet spot of the mid vent. Maybe those days don't bother many people (just deal with it and fly right?), but I really started noticing it when I started competing. Having a slightly overpowered kite or having to work to keep it up is just one more thing I don't want to be worrying about when flying precision figures or a choreographed ballet. I went through most of a competition season with just a standard and a full vent. Was that sufficient? Sure (...and I wasn't even the only one with that combo). But, I did have the "standard or vented, standard or vented" panicked debate several times shortly before my turn to compete. I just recently got a mid vent right before the AKA Convention and Grand Nationals competition, and it sure was nice to have that kite that flew best in the range between the other two and not have to stress out so much about which kite to fly for competition. Maybe you're not into competition (yet), but it's just another example of "Do you need it?" No. "But is it nice to have?" You bet. And, like SparkieRob said, if you're set on getting a Pro, get a mid vent Pro. You'll like it. Edit: Oh, or wait and try your chances at the B-series mid vent in the current subscribers' drawing. tkrinor
I’m a rookie with less than a year on the lines... I love my mid vent and it is my go to kite if possible. I begrudgingly move to the full or vented as needed. I only fly on the beach. I use race rods and 3 wraps with it.
Wayne Dowler
Have all 5 - std, mid, vtd, xtra, and Zen! Always helps in picking out the right sail for the wind conditions on that day! I have no "favorite", I'll fly whatever works best for the wind, right at the time I'm flying! That becomes my "favorite"!! I was like you a while back, only had the std and f/v! It was always a little trade off between powered up or under powered, depending on what you wanted to do! Solo flying, I can get away with a bit under powered, team means having power at all times! Getting the mid meant I didn't have to compromise between the two!

RobB
You'll get alot out of the mid-vent... especially when the wind is up/down/all around. I hardly ever fly my full sail 1.5, it's either the mid-vent or full vent. The mid can fly in pretty low winds, and if it can't fly, I'm flying duallies anyway. The full sail doesn't seem to be able to fly in much lower wind, anyway...
Reef Runner
Yep, I agree............ I've had them all. Only got one 1.5 B-series, right now, and it's a mid-vent. No std, no full-vent, just a mid-vent. Sometime last year, I became a B2 convert, so now, I've got a set of them (see avatar photo). The one in the middle (red & gray), well, that's the mid-vent, and it is my go-to kite, these days.......... I likewise do most of my flying at the coast, and I fly the B2 mid-vent with 3-wraps. (race rods in the std & 4-wraps in the full vent)
Captainbob
I've been flying for only a couple of months, with a full sail SLE and a B series Midvent. If the wind is gusty, which it is many times where I live, as soon as it gets over about 7 -8 mph, I would just as soon switch to the mid vent. With the winds in my area, 95% or more of the time, a full vent wouldn't be used at all.
3wrapframe
Honestly once u start flying a bunch and with large groups all the kites are needed Zen- Xtra Vent. U can make a kite "work" for a wind or flying condition but having the correct tool for the job is much easier than using a spoon to do a forks job, doable but not the right tool. They all have their place. (I think my mid vent is up there with my fav kites too)
