sandman Posted February 9, 2006 Author Report Posted February 9, 2006 And in 43, I looked at customising handles http://www.kitelife.com/archives/issue43/r...ons43/index.htm The guy that first showed me the Rev runs multiple knots on the top of the handles. I'm going to do the same eventually. Quote
John Barresi Posted February 9, 2006 Report Posted February 9, 2006 Don't forget, all even-length lines... All adjustments made from the handles. Quote
windofchange Posted February 9, 2006 Report Posted February 9, 2006 For quick and easy adjustment to your Revs, just larks head 4 short pieces of good quality line to the ends of your handles and put some knots in them in even increments (I use one inch increments for my Rev's, 2 inch increments for my power kites). The overall lenght only needs to be a couple inches. That way all your lines will stay the same lenght so you can use them on several different kites without having to make special adjustments on each one. With the multiple knots on the handles, adjusting is super simple and quick. Just land, move your larks head in or out, relaunch and try. Quote
John Barresi Posted February 9, 2006 Report Posted February 9, 2006 A side note... Your bottom lines will never be longer than your top lines, so in truth, you only need the mutliple knot system (longer leaders) on the top of your handles and a single (short) pigtail for attaching lines on the bottom of your handles. I see people with multiple knots on both top and bottom (Monkey!), it just makes me shake my head... Totally unecessary, and it just confuses the task at hand. Quote
sandman Posted February 9, 2006 Author Report Posted February 9, 2006 Don't forget, all even-length lines... All adjustments made from the handles. Call the above a noob terminology mistake. I meant handles. Quote

Totally unecessary, and it just confuses the task at hand. Ya ya, well, my editor didnt chew me out when I did that article ;-) But, ya, I do now agree wholeheartedly and I'm converting my handles one by one with a wee not about a 1/2 inch off the bottom, and adjustments on the top only. One can never have too much reverse... Quote
CLTKiter Posted February 9, 2006 Report Posted February 9, 2006 Sigh. I have knots on both the top and bottom of all my Rev handles... Me and Monkey-Boy... BTW, as you can see, my avatar is a Rev I Sedgwick. And I also have a set of SUL spars for it for those low-wind days that we have inland. Sorry, John. I still love my 1.5SUL more than a Rev I with SUL sticks. For the SUL, I use the 15" long handles. Monkey-Boy, let's keep all our knots and drive John crazy. Doug Quote
John Barresi Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 Hahahaha... Sandman, for equality's sake... Remember, personal preference rules all, above and beyond... The 1.5 is the most commonly flown Rev in the US, and probably 80% of the fliers have knots on both top and bottom. I've been on Revs for 14 years, flown all types, and have bagged my share of championships in quadline... "My way" isn't necessarily the right way, but it works well and is time-tested. Quote
monkey Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 Monkey-Boy, let's keep all our knots and drive John crazy. But, he is kinda crazy as it is... I think I'll knot some new ones on his handles this weekend in arlington. Hell never notice...till its toooo late! Quote
audioRob Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 I do knots top and bottom, and there's a good reason... My top knots are spread out 4cm apart, bottom knots are 1cm apart. I found for some reason with tight knots on the top they sometimes went kinda weird and tangled or caught on the lines when doing tricks... I guess for you "control" guys that doesnt matter Quote
monkey Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 Hmmm, I think thats three for knots on both ends of a handle and ....hmmm.... john. but he keeps winning... Quote
Jason Paul Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 Well, I have maybe 5-6 knots on the top, and two knots on the bottom. I will say though, that I rarely if ever use the second knot on the bottom. And, I don't think I've ever used more than 3-4 of the knots on the top. The only "tricks" I do with my Rev are catches and throws. One thing I did to help with this is make my leaders pretty long. So, coming from the handle there is a length of dacron about 18" long before the knots start (on the top and bottom both). This lets me reach out pretty far to pull for the catch, without grabbing spectra. I'm going to have to try a Rev I some day. Jason Quote
nckiter Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 I also have knots on top and bottom. I do not have the pleasure of always flying at the beach with steady winds. Frequently the wind in central NC gets real squirrely and I find a need to reduce brakes and add gas. The first 360 I ever did was totally unintentional, I was just trying to keep a 1.5 SUL in air and wound up doing a complete 360 by following the window! I have found that for me equal length adjustment lines on the handles are not necessary and have shortened the bottoms to 3 knots at 1" apart, tops are 5 - 6". I guess it's what works for each individual. Quote
REVflyer Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 As usual I guess, I do the knots backwards too, just like everything else. My line length adjustments are made only on the bottoms. My top leaders are the length of the gap across the two attachment points, long throw handles have a longer leader. This way I can reach way out there for those throws and catches but still not grab the raw spectra. Having the knots on the bottoms stops some tangling when flying one handed also. Quote
