  4. I buy 120 length in 50 pound strength, (Skybond, from Flying Smiles) they get cut down shorter and shorter as they near the end of the life-span. I don't rotate hand/kite ends or switch out top and bottoms either, I don't use any sleeving and fly on 50# until they sing loudly. (alone) In a group though? I will try to lean the lengths&strengths "my way", but ultimately we all use the same stuff, not everyone is equally equipped or has been doing it as long as the rest of us. Practice longer than you "show off with" so the kite looks magnetized and you magically in it's control. Throw and catch on 65 feet most of the time and then use 50' at a festival, or even 45! I carry probably a dozen sets of handles, all different lengths and strengths. from indoor (50#) 12 to 15 feet, to 135 foot of 50# (precision, no wind ~ secret weapon) and 120 feet of 170# (for when port-potties blow over)

  6. Is flying Kites a cheap hobby? No, you get what you pay for. Compared to my other hobbies becoming a kite collector is a lot less expensive then other activities I participated in. Bought 2 dirt bikes for my son and myself which cost more than I’ll spend on Kites in my entire life time. Camping gear is in the same category as the bikes now. Had to have a toyhauler to haul the bikes, oh ya wife’s atv, in. Fishing gear, probably spent a couple thousand over the years and barely use any of it anymore. So in the grand scheme of things my kite addiction is relatively cheap, and safer then my other hobbies. Oh ya then there was the side by side I rolled 9 times and almost died. $20,000 Grand down the drain plus all the doctor bills. Seems to me that flying Kites and sharing with anyone interested is a way better investment of my time and money. Can one ever have to many Kites? Sent from my IPhone

  7. Thanks Wayne for that detailed experience flying it. I'm mad envious. Such beautiful sails against a blue sky. When you said increase wind range, that means like if a rev is 3-8mph, then the phoenix is 4-9, right? Opposed to wider range like 2-9. Can see how the kite would need more wind to fly given the TE vents. And what's this Ashes model ye speaketh of? Is it a color option or an entirely different sail construction? I see Ameyst and FireandIce options but no Ashes yet. Also, isn't Rev's new direction also with 5/16 rods? Rx/XX.. sounds like it's a unison choice over 1/4 rods. Is stiffer better for precision and inverted flight? (generally speaking, I know every pilot is an individual) Thanks for chiming in on the Ppros, I really miss having a "magazine" to read in-depth technical reviews on kite models like here https://kitelife.com/2007/02/01/issue-52-review-of-b-series-by-revolution-kites/ Sure it might be some kind of conflict of interest between manufacturers, but a kite is a kite and we all love love kites. Maybe I'll write my own up on a blog somewhere, there's a number of new models (Ppro, freliene, Rx, XX, Spider, Classic, etc) that im sure New comers would like to read up on outside of the sales-descriptions on commerce sites...hehehe
