  2. @Corey Bell You can also search for Cuben Fiber which was the original name for this fabric.. Quite pricey but strength to weight ratio is off the chart. @DTill Looking forward to your next build.. Remember, metal shears, scissors and cutters will be dulled a touch by the Dyneema. Plan accordingly.

  8. https://www.facebook.com/169948129685788/photos/?tab=album&album_id=412964748717457 Here is the gallery of Shook Masterpiece kites from the beginning to now. Mine is #6. You can get confused by the % system used - it goes like this: 40% - just a little less than a mid 75% - a little more than a mid, but less than a full vent 100% - equal to a full vent 135% - equal to an Xtra vent

  9. Can't put a specific age on them, the SLE type line has been around a long time and might still be sold. Caps - the caps on the kite are all that is needed, no need to buy new for each type. SkyShark and the Rev 1/4" rods will all fit Rev caps. Stay away from that 7/16th" SLE rod set, they don't flex well and hurt control. 2 lines are popular, both Spectra - LPG (Laser Pro Gold) + SkyBond. SkyBond is distinguished by its yellow color, LPG is white. There is also a line sold thru Ocean Shores Kites. He doesn't have a name on it, The others can be gotten at places like - The Kite Shoppe, Kite Connection, A Wind of Change (AWOC), Into the Wind (ITW), Flying Things, or Ocean Shores Kites. Have done business with all of them - no issues. Shop for best deals. Will say that Theresa at the Kite Shoppe has some of the most equal line sets I've found, most of the rest have needed some small adjustments. Yep, a lot of info can be old, but there are current posts always going on. If a question arises, ask!

  12. One piece of advice - if no matter what and the kite is going to crash - LET IT!! Step forward, take all the power out. The kite crashes with little impact. Pulling does nothing but drive the kite harder into the ground, risking breakage. Better to go set it back up, than go down and find a broken kite! Learn to "Give to the Kite!!"

  13. @mystainedskin Hope to buggy with you someday. Buggying rocks. True powerkiting is oft ignored from the stunt kite side and it's refreshing to see another that will acknowledge both as off the hook fun..

  15. Hi, I'm George. Long time dual line kiter (kitist, kite lofter) just for fun. My first kite back in 2004 was a Prism Quantum, have it here in Saudi with me now. Just bought my first quad and looking forward to catching air with it, I actually bought 3 kites. All revs 1.5 SLE, Original Super Blast, and a Reflex XX with custom cut travel frame. I may just add a Djinn to the fleet also. I retired from active duty Army a few years ago and now I work in SA, my home is Kansas though. I try to get out and fly as much as I can, helps to relax and clear my thoughts while reminding me of good times at the beach with my family. Nice to meet everyone. George

  16. Hi, George, and welcome to the forum. I can see that you've committed to flying quads by how many you've purchased. I recommend approaching it with some patience. You'll need to forget some of your dual-line moves, but the line management skills you've acquired will be helpful. Quads are just a touch more difficult to get basic control of. When setting up and laying out your lines, remember that the apparent twists and tangles are not really there, and 99% of them will disappear once you put some tension in the lines. Most important is to smile, have fun and don't forget to breathe.

  17. Hi All, I grew up on the east coast in Virginia and Florida, and flew my first kite with my father, a Caribbean Kite Company sport kite (can't remember the model). Later I begged for "one of the big ones" on the ceiling at Kitty Hawk Kites on the Outer Banks where we would vacation. Despite their gentle warning, we got a Prism Micron when I was around 10-12 (born in 1986) because it was affordable. I was the only one in my family who could fly it successfully. I kept that Micron and would fly it whenever we made a family beach trip, then hung it in my bedroom throughout college. I went to Virginia Tech for 10 years, picked up sailing, and got a BS, PhD in fluid dynamics and ocean engineering, got married and moved to Huntington Beach, CA in 2014 to work at a yacht design firm. One day we were taking a walk near the pier and noticed a large kite event going on, the 2015 HB Kite Party run by Dave Shenkman. I had just ordered new end fittings for my Micron because they had all dry rotted over the years and had taken it out for a couple flights. At the Kite Party, while watching from the sidelines, a friendly guy saw me watching and asked if I would like to come give it a try. Nervously, I said sure, and flew a bit with him. As we were talking I explained I had just ordered some parts from A Wind of Change and was flying my Micron after a long hiatus. Turns out, this friendly guy was Kent from A Wind of Change and he recalled just shipping my parts recently! After that, we were convinced the kite gods were looking down on us and I went up to Kite Connection on the pier and immediately bought a Prism E3. Since then, we've been to each successive kite party while slowly acquiring a few more kites. Then this spring, while home in Virginia visiting my family, we stumbled across a killer Craigslist deal of over 50 classic single line and sport kites. We bought them on the spot for a good deal and since have really been flying a lot more and making plans to travel to more kite events. Looking forward to meeting you all should the opportunity arise and discussing kites on here! Cheers, Andrew My Flickr Kite Albums
