Last year I had 4 rattlesnake encounters while flying. They're common here but it's always unsettling when running across them. April 20th was are first very warm day. Walking back from flying I noticed a alpaca down. She'd been bitten on her leg and didn't make it. Would have been 3 this summer and been bred for the first time. Big hit not to mention she's missed. Only large animal I've lost to a snake bite.Yesterday morning been flying for about a 1/2 hour. Girls were coming in for a drink when I watched one of last years crias fall. Got to her fast and found she'd been bitten just above her nostrils..Lucky it was a bigger prairie rattler and not a baby or Midget Fade. Squeezed some of the venom out which I couldn't have done if it had been in the deep tissue of one of her legs. Vet did a good job but I didn't think she'd make it.There's no anti venom for camelids. Although pretty sick this morning and not out of the woods yet I think she will. Keep your eyes open folks. Not everything we encounter when flying is nice to hang out with. Photos (2).zip

It's a reason flying with groups is good, and having a spotter is even better. So far my worst experience was with fire ants, getting a bunch of stings on my leg. One blistered up to an enormous size and resulted in a doctor's visit, and my leg hurt for over a week, but it wasn't life threatening. Good reminder to be aware of your surroundings, and not just looking up.

Hard to imagine. It's been incredible learning duals. Hopefully the 2 quads I have will be enough for now.Heavy vent Djinn.Hmm 🤔. Start collecting them like I have duals and I'll probably have to sleep in the barn with one eye open .

I recently picked up a pfaff 1214 from craigslist for $200. So far it seems to work fairly well. I have been working on heavy duty projects like a fur suit for my daughter and some thicker material for covering my kite buggy while transporting it on the back of my car.

Found the unicorn, Pfaff 1222 in great shape, serviced a year ago, local Craigslist $125.

Thanks guys! I’ve been a member for a while, but unfortunately, I haven't made It a point to check in very often. That obviously needs to change. Especially with GWTW going away. I feel a little guilty for some of you guys who have been here, and posted a lot, but not guilty enough to give up the kite. Lol. Smooth winds guys! Fly ‘em high!

When I first got the brakes and accelerator of quad lines, it was more than a year before I flew one of my dual lines again. The control is very empowering. Even today I will always set up at least one quad, but only sometimes set up a dualie. Good luck @Breezin. Hopefully your dual line kites won't gain as much dust as mine did.

Once you can control the beast it will be very hard to put it down and fly something else.

When it comes to trying things with a Rev for the first time, I'm a " just go for it" kind of guy which usually spells disaster. City living means very limited spaces to regularly practice. I have a nice spot nearby however if the wind is coming from the East, not so great. I decided to give a parking garage a try. 5 stories high and basically empty top floor on weekends. I take my beat up EXP and give it a go. 2 things I didn't consider. Concrete is not as smooth as I thought. Lines got caught on the ground quite a bit and would easily get sliced if yanked on too hard. Second thing…damn lamp posts. Of course I had to push my luck and play around the posts and of course the lines got caught and I had to break one of them to get the kite down. Good thing is, I now have a nice set of 30 foot lines. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
