  1. Go get a mountain climbing pulley, that opens and closes. Snap it onto the line, then attach some kind of an handle (rope and carabiner) to the pulley., and walk like heck towards the kite. Once you get the kite to the ground, disconnect, roll up the kite, and go back to the anchor. Now you can wind up the line without any tension............"piece of cake". Here is the pulley http://www.silvertipmountaincenter.com/silvertipmountaincenter_i4775349.html?catId=126216 These are great too, for anchoring, and walking down ! http://www.silvertipmountaincenter.com/silvertipmountaincenter_i9798717.html?catId=126216
  2. Personally, I don't want to be flying anything, that needs 500 lb test line to hold down. I figure if it's necessary to exceed my weight, it's too much kite for me. Don't want to end up in Kansas with Dorthy, or the "Wicked Witch of the West"...............Yikes
  3. The "Outer Banks Event Site" where many of the past kiting events such as the OBSKC and last year's AKA Convention is currently being turned into an outdoor concert venue I believe. I doubt they'll be having future kiting events there although I may be mistaken. Not sure where they'd move to, not everyone can make the trek up the dunes at Jockey's Ridge. Tim - I agree, but according to the Kitty Hawk Kites website (??), it's still scheduled for that location. I supposed everyone will have to practice up on "soft" landings.........
  4. Oh, and I suppose you know - the braided line is far superior to the twisted line. Twisted line is a pain, and just as it is named - usually twisted and kinked-up.
  5. Hey Dave, As Wayne mentioned, it's always good to have several different line sizes. I've used anywhere from 90 lb up to 250 lb, all depending on the winds. If you got a very light air day, and nothing funky predicted to change that, use a lighter line. It's not much of a factor, if you're only up 50' to 100', but once you throw out 500' +, the weight of the line can start to come in to play. You wouldn't want 500' to 1000' of 300 lb line, hanging from that kite with only 6 - 7 mph winds. Now once it kicks on up to 10 to 15 mph, then you'll want the 200 lb, and so forth and so on. Good luck........the Super Sled is a sweet flyer, and especially in clean air (like coming off the ocean), it will sit there like a stature. Do add the matching 30' pendant tail. It make the kite seem way larger than it really is. I have anchored that kite in 10 - 12 mph winds, flying no more than 50' - 75' off the ground, and just forgotten about it. I love to put that kite up and then play around it with a Rev. You know, bump, bump, push, push................
  6. In fact, assuming that your photo was taken this past June, we may have even passed each other, up on that great sand dune in the sky ! What a sight it was !
  7. Again, great spot to fly............. The Rogallo Kite Festival is actually held only once a year, usually sometime around Memorial Day Weekend. This year (2015), it was actually held on the 5th, 6th & 7th of June. Next year (2016), it will be held on June 2nd, 3rd & 4th, so it sort of bounces around, from year to year, but always sometimes near Memorial Day. Then, there is the Wright Kite Festival, which will be held July 18th & 19th, this year. This event is held north of Jockey's Ridge, at the Wright Brothers National Memorial Park. Later in the season (Sept 12th & 13th), there is the Outer Banks Stunt Kite Competition (OBSKC), which is held down south of Jockey's Ridge, near the Whalebone area. This event takes place at the "Outer Banks Event Site" (6800 S Croatan Hwy, Nags Head, NC), and this is where you go to show your stuff. The best place to keep up with all these events is on the Kitty Hawk Kites Calendar of events. Just Google it !
  8. Great Kite.................I got one for sale ! Check your PM's...........nick
  9. Hey John, Hope you will have a great birthday. Weather here on the Outer Banks is beautiful, and the winds are just fantastic. I'm heading up on the hill today, due to a little off-shore wind. Yesterday was really great with a wonderful breeze off the ocean. Flying was pretty rusty, but amazing how quickly it comes back............. Anyway.............. H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y !!!!
  10. I'm crying now - not me too??!! WAHHHH!! Yea, and how about me. I want to come to OZ......Hmmm - long trip for an "old fart" - send pics.............. But what I really want to know, is WHEN, are we going to have the "East Coast Ocean Shores Dual (or quad) Line Clinic (we just get no respect over here)
  11. When you realize that you have a "brand new" kite in the bag, and you've never flown it !
  12. Congratulations Amber..............enjoy
  13. Hey, I'm not a big dual line "trickster" ! I'm basically into "just flying around", and having a good time. I usually fly on the beach, or on the dunes, and I usually fly quad line kites (Revolution), but when I fly dual line kites, it's usually my Premier Magnum. It is one of my favorite cruising kites (in fact, I have two). It's not a tremendously high end kite, it's relatively inexpensive, it's easy to fly and oh oh so graceful, so if you are just beginning, and you just want a good solid kite to fly, and have fun with, you can't go wrong with the Premier Magnum.
  14. Your bookmarked link looks like the forum, so no change there... The two links are to our front end pages, where we've had the developer for one of our plugins (handling ads) clean up some code... Almost everyone is reporting WAY faster loading, and no more failures. Not sure why your load time is still so long on the home page Nick, are you on high speed Internet? Yes, I'm on high speed internet (Time Warner Cable Road Runner Turbo). Either way, I always use my bookmark, so I've never noticed the slow up, or errors. I've just got it bookmarked where I always go, so not experienced any problems here. I was just curious what was going on.......... Thanks for all you do John.........take care
  15. Not sure of the problem, that was being addressed, but faster "as compared to what" ? The Kitelife website (as I have it bookmarked - directly to the forum new content page), loads on my (Firefox) browser in about 1 second, or less. [ http://kitelife.com/...arch_app=forums ] (always has, and still does) The two links addressed above, both "home" and "article", are both taking approximately 10 - 12 seconds to load completely ? If I type [ kitelife.com ] (which I assume to be the home page) into my address bar, it takes from 10 - 13 seconds for the site to load completely, yet my bookmarked page, noted above, loads from my Bookmarks Toolbar, in 1 second, or less........... I am using Windows 7 and Mozilla Firefox 36.0.4 (both up to date) Could someone explain what was wrong, and what John was tweeking ? I always use my bookmarked page, which has always been quick, so I'm not aware of the problem (?).
  16. I too use a heavy duty, cardboard shipping tube (approx 2 1/2" diameter), that has the white plastic plugs in each end. I put a piece of foam padding down in the bottom end, and secured that plug with shipping tape. On the other (top) end, I have another piece of thick (1") foam, that I insert into the tube, on top of the ends of my spare rods, and then I insert the white plastic plug. I did cut the cardboard tube to a length, which was approximately 2 inches longer than the actual rods. I leave each spare set of rods, right in the long plastic bags, that they usually come in, and drop the whole package, right into the cardboard tube. Holds everything nice and secure.
  17. Keep an eye on this forum topic over at GWTW kites (Swap Shop) http://www.gwtwforum.com/index.php?board=28.0 Oh, you may have to register, with a username and a password. Just use your same username, on all the kite sites, and people can keep up with you, as well as offer suggestions..........
  18. Hey Rob, A great big congratulations on your win ! As for the wind meter (great offering), however, I already have two, so I'm going to bow out also..........again, congrats on the SS !
  19. I agree with Mark, if $$'s are not object, go for it, and get a full set. Otherwise, I would say, that being new to the sport, you won't really be able to appreciate the benefits of the B-Pro, over the B-series, quite yet. As for Standard, Mid Vent, and Full Vent sails, everyone has their own ideas about this. I have had complete sets of both the B-series, the B-Pro's, as well as the smaller size B2's. In all cases, I framed the sets as follows: Standard sail - Black Race rods Mid-Vent sail - 3 wrap rods Full-Vent sail - 4 wrap rods Also (and Wayne won't agree), with every set, without fail, I have always used my Mid-Vent, far more than any of the other two (Std and Full- Vent). Now, I understand Wayne's reasoning, but I'm just saying, IF you were only going to get ONE, I'd get a Mid, however, if money is not a consideration, and you are looking at two or more, I'd go with Wayne's suggestion..........(I know, I know, decisions, decisions, decisions) As Mark mentioned, you have many Rev flyers in your area. Reach out, and someone will help you. You will get a lot of suggestions here, as to how is best to begin, and how to frame it. I really doubt you could go wrong with a B-series, but then you are going to have to decide which one (or all three). Again, get ready for many suggestions (information overload)................
  20. Well put, Mark ! That's something that we should all remember - "the real reason that we are here, in the first place"
  21. Hey, what can I say ? I remembered that I had something new (out in the bag), but I didn't remember that it was a SuperSonic, until I went and checked Surely didn't mean to cause all this squabble, though
  22. Bad thing is.............I haven't even flown mine yet ! (still in the factory package)
  23. Michael, Please allow me to try and straighten out this mess, as I was partially to blame, in the first place. As you will see from the posts above, a few days ago, I got into the Karma Drawing, and then after later realizing that I already had a SuperSonic, I got out. Then (all in fun & banter), Wayne somewhat suggested that if I had won, then I could have sent it on to him. I then replied back, asking if he wanted me to get back in, but also added, that should I win, I'd have Mark send the kite to him, but likewise, he would have to run the next Karma Drawing. All of this was done, with neither of us really thinking it out, and just how this may be perceived by the other entrants. This morning, when I read Wayne's reply (#41), I, without thinking, decided to get back in, but then, thankfully, Barton brought this whole matter to "our" attention. That post from Barton (#42), was directed "directly" at me and Wayne, and rightfully so. All of that is over and done with now, and there are NO hard feelings among the three of us, and never were. Now, as for you, please understand that none of this was directed at you, had nothing to do with you, and I can assure you another thing, NO ONE is trying to run you off. Why would you think such? If you will remember, back when you first showed up, here on Kitelife, I personally spent a great deal of time, via PM's, trying to explain something Rev related to you. I had kinda wondered where you had been lately, and I was glad to see you show back up, here in the Karma drawing. Yes, this is unusual, and yes, a couple of us have gotten in, and then gotten out, but for clearly legitimate reasons. Please, don't withdraw yourself, because of anything that you have read here. We would all like for you to stay on, and continue to enjoy Kitelife. This was just one big "mis-understanding", but trust me, it had nothing to do with you.
