  1. Hey Steven, That's also the color, that I was considering for my B2, but I'm still torn between the standard and the mid-vent. Maybe I should get the mid-vent, since I plan on winning this standard, and then, I would have a matching pair.............
  2. I tried that, but the edit screen also changes size as you change the size of the browser window, so it is still variable for each user. And I don't have all that much screen "real-estate". I know one guy that has four 27" monitors in a 2x2 grid; each screen is covered in text so small I can't read it unless I'm practically touching the screen with my nose. He says he needs all that information (programming code) on the screen(s) at once to keep track of everything. I hear you Pete, but my old brain has a hard enough time, just keeping up with one screen, and I keep that one as big as my computer will allow. Also, I'm just used to using tabs, so I may have multiple multiple "full" pages open, and I just tab back and forth, as needed............... Are we getting off topic, here Have a good one mate...............
  3. No argument there, but you got to think about what most other people see. That's why you need to look at the "edit" screen. Then you will see what the rest of us are seeing, those of us that are using a regular computer / laptop............... ps.............most people don't' have screens, large enough to see 3 or 4 full screens, at the same time
  4. Well, that might work, in a pinch, but my guess would be, that most people view their computers, in full screen. You have to fix the rough edges of the PRE-DRAWING BANTER, POST SAVING, in the edit window. You know, POST, posting............... (i.e. add your post, look at it, yep, looks like crap, edit, and fix it in the edit window, then re-save, should be good to go) whew! idle minds..............at work !!
  5. Here, here ! I wondered what would be wrong with that. That's exactly how I change the LE, when I change frames, here in my shop (hobby/work shop). When I'm out in the field, I usually just hook up another kite, if conditions change drastically. Again, different strokes, for different folks. Oh, and whatever works for you !!
  6. Hey Pete, The drawing hasn't occurred yet, so all of my banters, are BEFORE, or prior to, the drawing, hence, PRE-DRAWING BANTER ! Semantics, Semantics, Semantics...............but I surely don't want to get into a semantics with you. I wouldn't stand a chance so, I rest my case Oh, and I agree with Baloo > Need to even up those edges on your prebanters > Looks a little ragged.......... Cheers mate................!!
  7. Of course, the "ramble" / "10 minutes", was all in fun..................just giving you a little static I though it was all solid, and especially so, for a newbie. I was just trying to explain about the different line weights, to someone the other day, and I explained that very point that you made, "that it is not always the strength, that we are looking for, when we go to a heavier line". I believe you made that point, somewhere along the way. And seriously, the tutorial was great, as are they all. It's one of those "reference" type things, that yeah, you probably know most of it, if you've been messing with kites for a while, and you definitely know it, if you've really been into kites for a while, but likewise, it's refreshing to see it in writing, "so to speak", in the form of a tutorial, coming from someone that is, surely well known, and respected, in the kiting world.............again, thanks for all you do, and especially the turotials..........
  8. Yeah, I was meaning to say something about that, but you were just on a roll, in the zone, and doing so good, I really didn't have the heart to interrupt....

(that luck meter, sure hasn't been working)
  10. Professor Rev, no doubt........ .......Now that even made sense, to me
  11. Don't B2 confident..............I've got old "lucky 5-9-0", with the luck meter, re-set & ready
  12. Yeah, this thing has got me all messed up too ! I was just getting ready to buy a B2, but now, I remember, that John "RE-SET" my luck meter, on my number, when I re-upped my subscription earlier this year, so now, I don't know what to do.............I suppose I could use two B2's........... :kid_cussing:
  13. Thanks Kent, You always seem to have answers.......................
  14. Hey Tom, That's a pretty sophisticated set-up you've got there. Straight out of the aerospace industry, no doubt. All kidding aside, sometimes it's the simplest little things, that you can come up with, that will do a job, remarkably well. Kudos, on the cut-off jig. I have all that stuff, including the workmate, so it shouldn't be a problem, with the cutting part, or cutting it square. I even set up my shop vac, on saws, dremels, drill presses, etc. I just hate dust in my work shop. Anyway, I'm just worried about the ends of the rod splintering, after the cut is made. I wish I had a piece of scrap, to play with first. I don't know, I may just leave well enough alone. I thought I would put out a feeler, and see if anyone had ever done this with a Rev rod, before. The Dremel definitely seems to be the tool of choice, which I myself have used, to cut SkyShark tubing, in the past. Anyway I've got this brand new Rev I LE (3 pcs), that I'm not going to use, so I was thinking about cutting it down to the 1.5 size, and keeping the rods as spares, or something. Thanks for your input, as well as that from everyone else, both here, and over on the Rev forum.........
  15. Hey Ken, Pete's right. My script expired last December 2010, and I didn't get around to updating till sometime in mid January 2011, and likewise, I was wondering if I would get a new number? So I emailed John, and he told me, NO, I would keep the same number, but that he had "re-set the luck meter", on number 590 (that's me). Not so sure that took, but regardless, I have the same old "lucky" # 590, according to JB.......
  16. I've got a question, maybe a stupid question, but still a question. I have an extra set of Rev I spars (brand new), that I would love to utilize, in some of my Rev 1.5's. My question boils down to this. Can these spars be cut down by a few inches, and used in a Rev 1.5 (assuming that I measure them to the correct length)? If so, how is the best way to cut them, and is there anything that needs to be done to the raw end, after it is cut, to prevent splintering, etc. ? Has anyone done this before ?
  17. Hey Bill, Again, as Jeepster, Pete & I, have all said, everyone has their own opinion, some strong, some so so, on how things should be done. As I said, "this ain't rocket science", so take all of what everyone has said, and you should be ok. Different strokes for different folks.....................some attach the line to the kite with a lark's head knot (absolutely safe), and if you wind and unwind, precisely as Pete has described, no problem. However, I have noticed that many people, unless they are really into this, don't count winds, and will end up just winding, and then, as Pete so aptly described, you have inserted 360 degrees of twist, for every wind. That's why I suggested the "rolling wind", like a tire, toward the kite. For these reasons, that's why I described using a swivel, on the kite end, which is suppose to allow the twist, or torque in the line, to unwind and release, that is of course, if you have a good swivel. Swivels also make for quick, attaching, and disconnecting, should you have problems with the lark's head knot. Some do, some don't. Either way, as we have all said, there are numerous ways to do this, and again, it just isn't rocket science. You might be worrying to much. This is supposed to be a fun and relaxing hobby, so don't stress. Just do it................and if worse comes to worse, and the kite gets away, it's not going to just go flying off into outer space. Barring, being out over the ocean, the kite is going to come down. You may have to walk or drive a little ways, but trust me, unless the line gets hung on something, it's coming down. A kite, by definition, has got to have something (YOU), holding it against the wind, just for it to be able to gain altitude, and fly. So again, don't stress so much over this. It will all work out, and I guarantee you, if you meet up with Pete, he'll set you straight....................................go for the one on one help, if you still have questions ! Keep hanging around here, and we'll have you on dual line, or quad line kites, in no time........
  18. Well heck, Hi Bill. I used to fly single line kites, before the dual line and quad line bugs bit, so I'll try to help you out. And as Jeepster said, we all have our own opinions and ideas, as how to best accomplish this........... First of all, that's a pretty large kite, and it should have substantial pull. Take some advice and get some gloves, and get the largest "Hoop Winder", they have. Also, as for line, get the braided dacron, which is pretty standard for that kind of kite, and get the strength that the manufacturer recommends, or add 50 lbs to the recommended strength. As for attaching the line to the hoop - NO - you do not need a swivel there. Simply wrap the line around the hoop (around the circumference, not through the middle), and tie a "slip knot". Then cinch the slip knot up tight, around the hoop, and pull it so it is snug, then proceed to transfer (wind) your bulk line, onto the hoop. You'll need some help here, to hold the bulk spool, as you wind the line on the hoop, or set it up so it pulls off the spool, through a book, or something, just to put a little tension on the line as it is unwinding. Another suggestion, buy the line already on the hoop, if it is available. Now, this is important. Make sure that you unwind the bulk line, off of the bulk spool, from the side of the spool, like line coming off of a level-wind casting reel. Do not pull it off of the end of the spool, which will create a circular motion, and that will cause you to insert excess twist, into your flight line. That is a no - no ! Also, as you wind the line on the hoop in your hands, like a wheel, rolling the line straight onto the hoop. Do NOT hold the spool in one hand, and wind the line around it with the other. This also adds twist to the line on every single wrap, and again, this is a no - no. You want to keep the line as twist free, as possible, always. There is nothing worse than a line that kinks up, every time you allow it a bit of slack. Just roll the hoop toward the line that you are taking up, now, and when taking the kite in, and you will never insert any twist in your line. As for the swivel, YES, you need a swivel on the other end of the line, that is going to attach to the kite. Make sure and get a good one, probably stainless steel, and make sure that the strength of the swivel, matches or exceeds that of the line. As for a tail, wait and see if the kite has a grommet for attaching a tail. There should be some information with the kite, that mentions using a tail, or not. It may not need a tail, and adding one may adversely effect the kite. If there is a grommet in the center of the kite, at the bottom, it is probably for a tail. If so, it's also a good idea to tie a short piece of line from that grommet to a swivel, and then attach the tail to the swivel, or tie two swivels together (these don't need to be the expensive kind), butt to butt, and then you can snap one swivel to the bottom of the kite, and the other to the tail. Makes for easy removal.............. Hope all this makes sense, and remember, "this ain't rocket science". Just keep your line twist free, and you shouldn't have any problems. Follow all instructions and warnings, that come with the kite, and all should be well. Also remember, that the pictures of people running with a kite, to get it in the air, are "Bull". You should never have to run, to get a kite to fly. If it won't fly, without you running with it - box it up and send it back....................Good Luck
  19. If you used PayPal, it will show you. I just looked up mine, and I'm good thru July 11th. Imagine that !
  20. I should go and weigh mine but I'm certain that they'll fall within measurement error of your values. I don't have all these frames as of yet but greatly appreciate your posing this information. I really wish the specifications were more consistent across families. Some families have tables with dimensions and what not while some others do not. I wish there was one handy location that had all the specifications on all the different kites including weights. Or at least comparing all the components such as different bridles and what not so that one could make comparative assessments of where the greatest weight savings vs strength can be made. It would make questions like how similar is a B series 1.5 to a standard series 1.5 as for weight? Or how similar is a standard series 1.5 or B series 1.5 with a Zen frame to that of a full up Zen kite? For those of us who don't have a lot of others around them or access to easily see these things at a local shop this data can be very helpful.... Thanks much sir. ~Brett You are very welcome, Brett. I just happened to have all the rods laying there, and there was my postal scale on the shelf, so I figured it was a good time to put the info together. Glad you found the data informative.......nick
  21. Now John, you have really messed me up, now. That B2 was probably going to be my next Rev purchase, and now I've got to wait a month, just in case I might win this one.......... Oh, oh, oh
  22. I gotta agree. I've never run into anyone, with any better customer service, or "customer care", than Revolution Kites. My hats off to "Lolly", who has bent over backwards, on several occassions, to help me out of a jam, or two...........That, I'll never forget.............and I've told her so................So thanks again, Lolly Your North Carolina Buddy !
  23. Excellent idea there Marvin.........................we don't want to see you get hurt, with a kite, or anything else, for that matter............. ps...........enjoy the Vented B (it's on the way)
  24. How'd he do that, anyway? I didn't see any voodoo, coming from Marvin, the whole time. I'm beginning to believe that keeping quiet, is the way to trick that RNG
  25. Ok Pete, so much for that, now back to the cellar................... Oh, and congratulations Marvin. Enjoy !!
