  1. Green Rods are Green Rods, Black Rods are Black Rods - THEY ARE DIFFERENT !!
  2. Or pulled off into the "Wild Blue Yonder"................
  3. That sounds a bit out of the ordinary, or unusual, to say the least. What were they using for line ? Cable maybe ? I'm suprised that the Sutton didnt' pull the bumper, or whatever, off of the truck................ Anyway, I didn't know we were talking about that large a kite , but you never know. Strange things happen, down here in the South................
  4. Exactly my intentions, Tom. You've found, basically the same bag, that I originally proposed. Similar size, similar weight limit, similar price, etc. I don't care what you do to a cheap Wally World bag, you're still going to have a cheap Wally World bag. Why spend all the time, effort, and dollars, to reinforce a piece of junk, when you can easily find something on-line, that will do the job, and much, much more (?) I was just trying to suggest that all the "to-do", wasn't necessary. Anyway, my idea was simply to shovel sand into the big bag, till you got tired. Mine and yours both, are both rated at over 2000 lbs. So what if you put in only 100 lbs, 250 lbs, or 500 lbs, or whatever you want. Then just hook your kite line with a carabiner, to the handles, and voilà! You don't exactly have to fill it up, just enough to hold your kite. If it starts to move, shovel in a few more pounds of sand. Seems like a no-brainer, to me. And as I told Pete, if these bags, filled with sand, won't hold your kite, you need to hook it to the back of your truck, or get a smaller kite........... Here are some extra details about this bags, for anyone that it really interested !! GOOGLE FIBC's United Bags School of FIBC's What is a FIBC? A bulk bag is a large bag made out of woven polypropylene used to store and/or transport dry products. FIBC dimensions can vary based on customer needs. The bags typically hold anywhere from 2000 - 4000 lbs of product and generally placed on pallets by fork lifts using the attached corner lift loops. What does FIBC stand for? Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container. Some other names that you might here are: Bulk Bags, Big Bags, and Totes. What are FIBC's made from? 100% virgin polypropylene What sizes do FIBC's come in? FIBC's come in many different sizes and styles but can be customized for your product. Most bags come with a standard base dimension of 35" x 35" but once again all bags can be customized for your product. How do you move a FIBC? Bulk bags can be lifted one of the following examples: 10" lift loops stevedore straps lifting sleeves single point crane lift The above are just a few options. Lifting options can vary and can be custom made. DO YOU THINK THIS ONE WILL HOLD THE KITE
  5. Well, like I said, if this bag won't hold your kite, either back it up to the truck, or get another kite...................
  6. This looks like the bags they use to deliver pre-mixed mortar. I had no idea they were that cheap! If anyone is looking for an anchor for a really big kite, I think this is the solution. The one thing you seemed to have not mentioned is the URL where these are available. Yeah, I know Pete. I did a search, I found the bag on the very first search, I posted the photo, I copied & pasted the specs, and I went on about what I was doing. I mean, everyone was just getting way too involved, with doctoring up another, "Wally World" wonder (wonder what it is, wonder where it's from, wonder if it's worth a d_m_ probably not, etc), Now that I look back, I don't know the exact terminology, that I entered into the search box, to find that bag. DON'T YOU JUST HATE IT, WHEN THAT HAPPENS....................
  7. This topic (solution) seems to be getting awfully complicated. With just a little online searching, and you can find almost anything (in seconds) ! Actually, this seems pretty simple to me, with no hassles & cheap ! Fill this bag till you get tired of shoveling & if it won't hold your kite, back up the truck Top: Duffel Bottom: Flat Size: 39" x 39" x 39" Safe Working Load: 2,200lbs Lifting Loops: 2 Strap Loops Price $7.44
  8. Hey Baloo, Are you inviting us over Unfortunately, after I retired, I let my passport expire, or I'd be right over
  9. Ok Pete, we are still waiting............... Come on out of the cellar, and let's have it ! Your turn ! I know, I know, it's Wednesday night.........................
  10. Hi East Coast Kiter, and welcome to the forum. I too, am now into Revs (quad line), but I still have two (2) Nighthawks and two (2) Magnums, which I fly on occasion. Both are great kites that were designed by Jon Trennepohl & Wayne Brujnes. The Nighthawk is a good mid size, or 3/4 kite, while the Magnum is a full size kite. Both kites are basically identical, other than size, frame & speed. I also had a Trick & Track, but I didn't particularly like that one, no good reason, other than I just didn't think that it performed, quite as well, as either the Nighthawk or the Magnum. I also had a Widow, which is also a Jon Trennepohl design. That too, is a very nice kite, especially for this price range. Good luck with your choices............You'll love the Nighthawk (Red Hot)
  11. The RNG has been doing exactly as I have asked.....so far, anyway, and without fail ! OK, one more time. RNG, pick some other number - DO NOT PICK 5-9-0 ! See, easy................it obeys every time..............
  12. Yes RNG, pick 833 - DO NOT PICK 5-9-0 !
  13. And that's what it's all about................carry on !!
  14. Cheap blocks (the pulley is the part that goes round) have too big of a gap between the pulley and the cheeks of the block. Sooner or later the line will jump off the pulley and get down into that gap (and break almost instantly). If you want a large diameter pulley with no gap, you have to make them with a recess machined out of the cheeks that the flanges of the pulley are hidden in. This generally means big bucks for a custom-made block. Just a figure of speach ! I suppose you don't have to get cheap blocks.............Harken, maybe, or maybe not ! But yes, I understand what you are saying. I suppose that's why JB's cost several hundred $$'s..........
  15. And what part of "NO", is un-comprehensible ? Carry On JB............... This is YOUR ship, and YOU are the CAPTAIN ! (and the Captain is ALWAYS right, even if by chance, well, enuf said)
  16. For all of that ($$'s), you could have just bought 4 small pulleys..............
  17. OK SV, you can start now, and you too Baloo ! Oh, and PETE................. Banter, Banter, Banter, Banter, Banter, OH, this is too difficult......................PETE, get out of the cellar & BANTER !
  18. KEWL looking kite, there John.......................
  19. Fantastic OK RNG - DO NOT PICK # 5-9-0
  20. Hi Nick, That sounds great. I learned to fly on Jockey's Ridge and It's still one of my favorite spots. Alas, that week covers both my daughter's fourth birthday and my wedding anniversary, so trekking down to the OBX is out I'm afraid. My wife's not a kite addict yet.... I was down there just last month with a buddy for the Rogallo Kite Festival up on the ridge. The wind was crazy on Sunday, but I got to fly a beautiful hand-made Tirips weave and waste too much of Elliot's time up at Flying Smiles Kites in Corolla. Hope to see you down there some other time. --Brian Brian, Sorry that time doesn't work out. Likewise, Jockey's Ridge is where I learned to fly. Maybe some other time. BTW, I was there, the week immediately before Rogolla, and not a Rev in sight.
  21. Hey John, I don't think anyone is doubting you, not at all. "You", understand the RNG, and your system, but maybe the rest of us don't, and that's NOT important. WE TRUST YOU !..............no problems I hope I didn't imply mis-trust, and I hope you know bette ! As you always say, IT'S ALL GOOD, and IT'S ALL IN FUN. Carry on............and thanks for all YOU do for ALL of US !
  22. Hey Brian, I'll be at the Outer Banks (Jockey's Ridge) MP 12.5, in a couple of weeks. Shoot me a PM, during the week of July 23 to July 30. I also got a new B2 (std sail). Maybe we can hook up and fly together, up on the hill.....................nick
