  1. "Greenies" refer to the label used on newer Rev rods. There is a green band on each end of the silver ID label. These were made with questionable materials, questionable QC, and tend to break in conditions the older rods handled with ease. Some one here flew both types of rods in identical sails - the green label broke, while the others held. The worst seemed to be the diamond and race rods, but the label is on everything now. I understand that they discontinued the 1/4" diamond rods altogether.
  2. I think the "new" diamonds are only in the Reflex size - 5/16", not the 1/4" of the older rods. Might be wrong, but .......with everything they put out using the "new" size rods, it makes sense. Just looked - yep 5/16", not 1/4'
  3. P-100 Sky Sharks are what Bazzer puts in them, some go P-90, some do a mix of those.
  4. US size - it is an # 8-10 wallboard anchor and screw combo that comes in the kit. Need 4 of each piece - 4 anchors, 4 screws. Kits come 6 complete units per, or bigger. YMMV Then you need a good set of longer leaders like JB's, not those factory ones. I like that it creates a more direct connection with your kite, taking out those movable rings, and attaching direct to your handle. To me it is just one less moving part to deal with.
  5. You can't resist the power of the "Dark Side!" muhahahahaha!!!!
  6. And flew twice this week already!!! But Paul is correct - obstacles in the wind path create tough conditions, that if worked, can lead to great flying. It is work though. Light wind or indoor, both require a certain touch, delicate but firm, smooth not jerky. You learn to work with the wind and not fight it. Become a master of light/no winds - you'll be flying while others are sitting and watching!
  7. Every time I go there, I make a new one!! Look on my original post. Gotta stop going ............gotta..........forget it!
  8. There would be no sharp objects, using a cordless drill and a file. Chuck the tip of the screw in the drill and use the file to knock down the threads under the head. Look for any type of "panhead" screw that has that unthreaded area. Same size as what came with the kit. Depends on where you are on what measuring system you are using.

    Vented

I wouldn't consider putting a Rev 1 vented up in 35 mph winds - no sir! Throw the published wind ranges out the window or bury them - please! What frame you going to use! That is one big wing to have up there in those winds. It is why most fly the 1.5 size, so many models in the size range to accommodate differing winds. IMHO YMMV
  10. This is flat AWESOME!!! Would be very privileged to fly something as beautiful as these can be. What a prize!!
  11. Gotta love spell-check!!!! Immunity - not eminently!!! LOL!!!
  12. It's the day after Christmas and all through the house, are boxes and wrapping all strewn about. But something is missing no doubt - a long triangular shaped tube! Let the clamor begin, the crowd with a shout - JB has our kite, he needs to let it get out!
  13. Indeed Happy Holidays to all!!
  14. "Ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances". eBay can be either a blessing or curse, depending on the product and seller. For many years, it was the dumping ground of many "knock-offs" of established kites. A seller could label it anything and you as buyer, could get what you expected or a POS. Many quads crying "just as good as a Rev" were sold, but never delivered on their promises. It really is "buyer beware". Can you get good deals on eBay? Sure, but you really need to know what you're after and hope the seller does too.
  15. Looks nice - what weight line you using?
  16. When I flew more dualie than quad - I had 3 different strap sets, one for each type of kite in a wind range. My light wind Prism Ozone had these golf ball sized grips that fit in my hand really nice. Just held onto the ball. I could run the attaching line out my fingers or out the front of my hand, depending on wind. Got them back in the '90s, never have seen them recently. My medium wind kite, a Flexifoil Stranger was a beast and I used those contoured wrist straps, mostly worn over my wrists, but occasionally in my fingers. Again all dependent on winds. My high wind Prism Alien was pretty mild pulling, so I got away using regular wrist straps with it. Again either over the wrists or in the fingers depending on winds. As with my quads - it's still all about what you feel when you pick up the lines! IMHO YMMV
  17. Fool yourself into thinking that!!!! Yep .......
  18. I use my Wala indoors, but it also doubles as an SLK for outside too. The spreaders will go in front or in back, depending on how you want to fly it! Got a neat tail too. Oh - there's a jumbo version - the Wala XL!! Enjoy the drooling!!!!
  19. The only thing I have from Flying Wings is a glider, the Wala or also known as an Aerobie. Also have seen and flown the Emong and one other (can't remember the name), but they were all built like tanks, looked indestructible (also gliders). Don't think I've flown any of their stunters, so can't compare relative to how it fits in the UL, SUL, Std type ranges. Sorry
  20. "But the sf ul is closer to a standard kite than a true ultralight ". There is the rub -- there is no standardization between manufacturers between what constitutes a UL. There just isn't any standard for comparing, especially over the 'net, where anyone can claim anything to be whatever they choose. Only way in the end is either see them in person (thru OPK) or by buying it and hoping, or maybe getting other's opinions.
  21. Almost got the Airwave Zero when I was looking for an indoor kite, but decided not to. Looked OK, but since I didn't buy, no opinion on them. Maybe someone else .....?
