  1. Just cannot do the FB thing I could have sent $40 (or so) to join AKA and saved a couple of hundred bucks over the last year (in hindsight), with the AKA discount. But I would have been joining for the discount, not the membership or what AKA may offer. I was told about event insurance. I appreciate that may be case, but at the time it was not worth filling out an application, sending $ etc. I never thought I would buy multiple kites and the discount would have been beneficial to me down the road. The discount needs to be instant gratification. Seize the emotion of a new kite purchase…that is just the society we live in. I reviewed the mag looking for inspiration, sorry just not there. Looks like the scout’s Boy’s Life from decades ago. I could have attended the AKA event in Seaside. I researched the AKA website, old vids etc. It did not seem fun, interactive. I felt it was pretty much just for the competitors. I wanted to fly, be entertained or interact.. not just watch the competitor clique. I could not find the inspiration to warrant the drive. I really wanted to attend…just could not justify it. As a newby, I don’t understand what the AKA can do for me. I respect the history, but I am not part of that. I wanted a reason to join but could not find it. AKA feels like the museum in Long Beach, I appreciate it, but it is history. What can it do for me…I can buy trinkets in the gift shop. T really not trying to be negative...just honest about it.
  2. Marcel Marceau of the beach JB, your moves are a mask to your uniform T
  3. Put on pajamas to tie leaders because of 1 inch plaid pattern on them Told my wife I didn’t want to pay for my first time with JB (after telling how cool it would be fly with "the world's best flyer" moments after telling her that he gives lessons only 90 minutes away) Knocked myself to my knees and nearly out ....backing into a goal post trying to keep a rev in the air. Stole my wife’s hair bands to bundle spare rods Wondered why it is called “the dark side” Feel flush and babble like an moron in the presence of JB, Steve D and Bazzer, and Watty and Amy and Connor and etc. (should join groupies r us) Think it is cool that Wayne is identifiable by his “uniform” Wonder why TK wears a turtle Felt like a 7 year old watching Iquad Drive hours looking for wind Won the lottery by catching JB flying with TK….. and being the only one in the audience, after going 20 miles out of my way (after 60 miles heading to PDX) for about the 10th time “just in case” JB happened to be at a flying field (and seriously....... the first time without my kite bag)...but would not have interrupted them anyway Still a hack...but someday..... T
  4. Anyone have an indoor rev that is collecting dust. I would be interested in a rtf package or what you may have. Thanks T
  5. Never thought I would need this tip until I did, thanks Wayne T
  6. bless those walking by without gawking.......... they know not what they seeth T
  7. JB you are truly a magic man. You just transformed that darned goal post in my field from an obstruction, to a new opportunity. I might even be able to look at that blasted swing set a bit differently now. Terry
  8. I use this storage tube and bag set up and loving it. http://www.amazon.com/s/?tag=kitelifemagaz-20&link_code=wsw&_encoding=UTF-8&search-alias=aps&field-keywords=B000UUABKO&Submit.x=16&Submit.y=4&Submit=Go http://www.amazon.com/s/?tag=kitelifemagaz-20&link_code=wsw&_encoding=UTF-8&search-alias=aps&field-keywords=B001U5JHCQ&Submit.x=19&Submit.y=12&Submit=Go
  9. Wow.... Nice new tutorials JB
  10. Thanks gang, the tips really helped today, Not exactly carving up the sky, but somewhat recognizable. The little wump, and forward first flight made all the difference..appreciate the tips!
  11. Thanks folks, there were 2 tips I tried that helped quite a bit. First taking a step back for up and forward for down, and flying with both hands. It was a bit gusty, for instance NOAA said 10G31 at 12:58 today.(and it was raining at times so it was heavy sail), but definitely saw an improvement.
  12. Stated goals are tough for me..they mean you have to find a way..regardless of the bumps,, no backing out or backing down, you have to hit the goal. No stated goal and you can weasel out. My kite stated goal is to fly my first demo at Lincoln City next summer (if allowed without credentials), and if invited to fly in my first rev mega fly I will. I can do this, some how and will be working towards the goal. My name is Terry and will be working this winter to try and reduce the embarrassment factor sure to take place in LC. Offer support if you wish ,,but be prepared to duck and run,, cuz I plan on flying my first public demo.....cyall in LC!
  13. Not sure of the terminology, I think it is ladder up/down or tip pivots, like pivoting up a rope. Mine are sloppy…not tight at all. I worked on them last week end, but the wind was as gusty as I had ever seen, tough flying. Any tips I can take for next weekend’s work to get them tighter. Attempting the move backwards didn’t even compute and I gave up quickly. Couldn’t get into a zone last weekend. Rain and gusty wind.
  14. I’m a rookie with less than a year on the lines... I love my mid vent and it is my go to kite if possible. I begrudgingly move to the full or vented as needed. I only fly on the beach. I use race rods and 3 wraps with it.
  15. Wanted: Xtra Vent in great condition No experience necessary, will provide training. Must be ready to work. Must be willing to adapt to quickly to varying conditions. Expected to cooperate with multiple spars. Cannot be afraid of cold, wind and rain. Will be sharing a bag with 4 other Revs. Lines will be determined by flyer. Don’t expect much in return other than being stuffed in a sleeve. Sassy with a lot of spirit preferred.
  16. My Rev toddles around the sky and rides the breeze. Jb’s kite looks alive, and has a personality. Why?
  17. got some bounceless stops in today,,,thanks folks
  18. I had the pleasure to watch Amy and Connor Doran fly this past weekend. I noticed when they were inverted and in a dive, they both had their arms beside their bodies, or even behind their bodies, then thrust their arms forward at the stop. I noticed that with some other Rev Flyers but not all. What does that technique do different than just hitting the brakes hard with your hands? I am not able to fly often, so I won't be able to try and figure it out for a week or two...so being really curious about it I thought would ask. Thank you in advance for any insight.
  19. thank you JB...very enlightening, and sobering..it is like being all proud of learning a G chord, then seeing Stevie Ray Vaughan
  20. http://www.revkites.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Revolution-Mega-Fly-Figures-v1d.pdf Great.. thank you!
  21. When flying with a dozen folks or so, how does one determine their position on/in a circle/or whatever the proper term may be? Is there a link or list of the most common commands or/whatever the leader calls during a mega fly? I saw JB's vid on skills required....but how does one know where to go and when?
  22. How do you get in there?.......I know.. seems like a silly question. I had kite in hand in hand Sat night at LC 2013, you guys were flying at dusk Sat... it looked fun. I hit the beach with the intent of flying, but did not. Does one interrupt to ask permission,..just launch and walk into your space? I really did not know how to "get in there". I did not want to interrupt practice, interrupt friends getting together etc. A novice asking demo flyers to join them, seems pretty daunting. I ended up not flying that evening, but appreciative of watching folks with skills beyond mine. BTW: what 's your dog's name?
