  1. I don't remember hearing anything else about them... they could be at a festival (when is NABX ?) or something like that. Just because their social media & website isn't up to date doesn't necessarily mean the worst. Kite folks are laid back, maybe you'll get a response in a week or so... Just wondering, is Windpower Sports a Kitelife sponsor ? It's usually best to choose a recommended shop for best service...
  2. Happy belated New Year, Kiteheads ! Yup... not the best day to get out & fly, but it left a smile on my face for the rest of the day, anyway. It was a dreary day, about 40*. Not terribly cold, but... you know, that cold damp kinda day. The wind seemed to be blowing... well, it was, from 3 different directions and ranging in speed from 0 to 15 mph. I didn't realize this until I had set everything up and tried to get off the ground. Within minutes, there was a lull that lasted at least 5 minutes... Just stand there and wait. I'm all ready committed to this. Luckily, the wind came back, but 90* from it's original direction. Then back. Then the other way... Well, at least I got some flying in.
  3. Good to see the quest for the Taz is still alive ! I have yet to 'get' the Taz, or Slot for that matter. 2015 brought very little flying for me, maybe only 25% of what I had done in previous years. Learning new things has taken a back seat to just getting out and flying the rust off anything that I can do. Glad to hear that you got the Taz !
  4. Hey Lostlt, I wonder if we met up there... I met a number of locals, some even flew my kites. My favorites were 2 little girls that were watching with their Moms, they asked if they could try, and did, with a little help. Great group of people in LBI, much different from the Wildwood scene that I'm used to !

I'm almost OK with the fact that the mesh blew out on my full vent. 5 years of tough conditions, I mean, the full vent only comes out of the bag when the conditions are too rough for anything else. It blew out last March, I'm still mourning the loss and have yet to replace it. But now that my mid-vent blew out with less than half the flying hours, I'm starting to wonder if I would be doing the right thing re-investing in something that's destined to fail too soon IMO. I am so interested in ideas like Steve's on how to take the existing 25+ year old design, and strengthen the weak spots. Maybe Rev should pay him for some consulting work. If they addressed some of the weaknesses in the design, I would be happy to pay a few $$$ more for replacement kites that would last longer. I don't really care about fraying or quirky bungees, but I do care that I have 2 Rev B's that can't be flown anymore. Wayne, if I had a sewing machine & the skills, I would totally do that. I'm sure it works, 100%... That solution alone would fix my mid-vent, better than new... BUT, I don't, and I don't have the confidence to take a needle to a new sail to reinforce a new kite, either. It's a time thing, too. I just want to fly, and I feel pretty let down by my Revs at this point.

The fold spot on the mesh ! I am so down on Revs right now... my second B series mesh failed, first the full vent (OK, that one did get a lot of use & abuse), but now the one on my mid-vent (newer, maybe 1/4 the amount of air time). So, I am left with only my standard Rev. The standard Rev rarely gets flown, because its wind range conflicts with my dual line kites, which I prefer to fly. I have to wonder if quality control at Rev is slipping... I really hesitate to buy any more Revs, the ABS is looking really good right now !
  7. I found some more clips of the Enigma...
  8. The Drone videos are pretty cool. I've tried taking videos from a kite... not so good without a stabilized gimbal mount for the camera. I do wonder why you posted someone else's kite video, though... where are your kites ?
  9. Steve... good to see you here ! Post some close-ups of the details you put into that awesome quad. I really like the way you took care of the leading edge and the top pocket of the verticals.
  10. Oh, sorry about that... old school forum etiquette.
  11. Thank you, Ralph... I'm still working on getting the feel of this one, but it is so stable, it's the opposite of twitchy, whatever that may be. I really like it ! If you look around on that 'other' site, you'll find a video of the Enigma flown in more wind by someone with some great skills. Keep your eyes open for these to hit the market, they're a must have !
  12. Yes, it sounds like he may be getting ready to offer them for sale, too.
  13. I got a surprise in the mail early this Fall, a demo kite from a new builder, the Enigma. Sadly, I had very little time to fly this Fall, and when I did sneak out for a fly, the wind didn't cooperate. Well, that was until recently... I got out in some low wind and almost pulled out one of my favorite SULs, but figured I would see how the Enigma would perform in winds around 2mph. I was happily surprised to find myself flying pretty easily in those low winds, the Enigma just hung in there, seemingly defying gravity. I am looking forward to getting more time flying this kite, with only a couple hours on the lines so far, I am still learning it's inputs and haven't explored the many available adjustments. So far, predictable & stable are the words I would use to describe it... more later after I've flown it more ! https://player.vimeo.com/video/149705141
  14. Wow... Congratulations TK & JB ! Such great news, I bet both of your heads are spinning. The kid train is the wildest roller coaster I've ever been on. I wish you both the best. And the goto mantra... 'don't worry, that's normal'... it seems no matter what happens or how crazy something may seem, ' oh, that's normal '.

  16. Yes, I can tell it's got something done to it... my Sea Devils aren't as quick to trick as yours seems to be. Yours seems to trick more like a Fearless. I should try some adjustments on my standard, it's handling is so bland that I use it as a tow vehicle for my 75' tube tail ! If I want to trick, I fly something else...
  17. That must have been the one I was thinking of. It amazes me how far digital video quality has come in 10 years. There are so many videos from that time that are so great, except for the quality of the video...
  18. So glad you did ! Always good to see one of the versions of that video. Wasn't there another cut with an AC-DC song ? I think the long tip-drag in the water side-slide is my favorite part, or maybe the multiple unroll into flic-flac, 6 inches off the water !
  19. Glad you like that Sea Devil. The Sea Devils were my first high-end kites, I chose them based on JB's promo video. I figured the first step to learning to fly like that was to get the same kite. Well, my original Sea Devil is 9 years old now, and it still doesn't fly like JB's. That's OK, I still like to fly it, and still learning how to make it do all those things...
  20. So, I was lucky enough to have an hour break in between appointments this afternoon. My next stop was right near the beach (as most places on the Island are) so I figured it would be a good chance to get some flying in. The only problem was that the wind was not coming off the water, but the spot I ended up at is actually an isthmus, so the wind should be good from any direction, right ? Well... yeah, kinda. The wind was in the process of doing an almost 180* shift, so it was up sometimes and nothing at others. Not a big deal, the Sea Devil Light is comfortable flying in 3-15mph winds, and can be flown in less with some work. Well, it's tough to work on a beach that's 10-15 feet wide (high tide), so it was a challenging fly to say the least. BUT... better than not having flown at all, so I'll chalk that up in the WIN column ! Sorry, no pictures today, but I brought the kite back with no damage, even though I had two water crashes, as most of the flying was over the water. https://www.google.com/maps/place/40%C2%B055'11.9%22N+73%C2%B009'58.1%22W/@40.9191714,-73.1666356,615m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0

Damn, is that a good lookin' kite ! The Prismatex shows up good, but for those not familiar with it, it's not the colorful lights making the clear panels shine like that...
  22. You forgot to say what you're waiting for... are you sharing the anticipation ?
  23. Hey Everyone... Just starting this up, checking out this new feature on Kitelife. I haven't flown anywhere near as much as I would've liked this Fall, but had a few memorable outings. I caught up with one of our new members last weekend, Frank, who seems to have the Kite Bug really bad ! There wasn't really much wind to fly in, but we got a little air time. It was really good to see another enthusiast on my normally kite-free beaches ! I got out Thanksgiving weekend as well, but for a little different kind of flying... Yup, some lazy flying after the Thanksgiving feast. Notice the red cup... Kite 'church' is not complete without sacrament ! Anyway, the big Delta looked pretty cool with the 75' Prism tail, flying low, almost touching the ground. Well... that's about all the flying to report for now, but I'm headed out to see if NOAA was correct in the 5-7mph east wind prediction... fingers crossed ! Oh, did I mention that it's 65* & sunny in December ?
  24. That's a great idea ! Better than my method, that's for sure...
  25. These channels on uToob should help to get you started with anything stunt-kite related. The next Prism kite you get ( Hypnotist or E3 ) should come with the Prism DVD, which includes video explanations of most of the tricks. https://www.youtube.com/user/DPmama74/videos https://www.youtube.com/user/Doddtunes/videos https://www.youtube.com/user/prismkites/videos
