Seems to work pretty good on my phone... Sent from my LG-K330 using KiteLife mobile app

Holy Cow ! A Prism Quantum in 20+mph winds ? First flight ? Wow, you're lucky that you arms aren't 3 feet longer ! The Quantum is a tough kite, it can take winds like that, and it crashes with the best of them, but in winds like that, keep the kite out of the power zone as best as you can. I think the lines will break before the kite, but if you're out flying, and see the wingtips shuddering, it's time to try to land safely & wrap it up. It's better to come back the next day than to suffer catastrophic failure. I do like the 'Going tomorrow, can't wait' part... yeah, you've got the bug ! I hope your winds are about 10mph lower the next time out, though.

Sweet kite ! You're making me wish that I had bought that one. I was lucky enough to fly someone else's at a festival last Fall, although I believe it was an UL. Same thing, low winds, and super long lines, like 100' or 120'. That was the only thing that I wish had been different, since I'm not used to long lines. The kite did fly like a dream, though, it had really good precision for the low winds and I was able to bang out a few tricks. Glad you got one, and I'm looking forward to hearing more about it !

2016 World Sport Kite Championships (April)
RobB replied to John Barresi's topic in Scheduled Events
I was just scrolling through that SKQ, and read about a competition that was only 1/2 hour from my house... Where was I back then ? I've heard from some of the old timers that I've run into over the years how much more popular flying used to be around here, didn't realize that there were actual regional championships around here, though. -
Those Skywaves are so nice looking, I can't say which one I like better...

Same here, I saw this video when it came out, and set my mind to learning to fly like that. I had to have the kite in the video, too. I wonder how many kites Lam sold because of that video...

I haven't tried it yet, but was thinking about it. I was going to measure the spreader, and tie a 10' flying line at the center point to attach the second kite to. That's the plan at least... I'll get to trying it someday !

What I have in mind is definitely kite related... Four line kite related...

Just a though for no or low wind kites
RobB replied to DeafThunder's topic in Adjustments and Modifications
Maybe a twin-skin sail is the answer, fill the void in between the skins with helium. Careful calculations would have to be made so the heli-kite would have slight negative buoyancy. It wouldn't be much fun if it had too much float... -
Hahaha... 2009, I think. I know, it's just not the same. I got into the kiting scene about a decade too late. I mean, I was flying, but had no idea about organized events back then. I saw you there a few years ago, probably the lightest turnout that I've ever seen there, that year. It was better last year, but really nothing compared to pictures I see of Berkeley, WSIKF, Fano, Berk, etc...

Yes... looks like the solution has been found ! Working in Chrome & IE 11 !

Welcome, @Ofer from the pictures I've seen from Iftah, there are some really beautiful places to fly in Israel, I'm surprised there aren't more fliers there. And a Prism Illusion... nice choice in a duallie !

Wow, those are some nice pieces ! Any plans for making them available for public consumption ? Want...

The biggest Kite Festival that I've been to is Wildwood... been a few times. BUT, from pictures of other events that I've seen, it certainly doesn't look like a top 10 must-see event. There are other, smaller festivals that I've been to that were much more fun, too. But... if you're doing the NYC Holiday thing with the family, and want to break free for some flyin' fun, let me know. I'm only an hour from the city & can hook you up with some local knowledge, and some kites if you just wanna fly !

Thank you, J. That was the next best thing to being there. Great pictures and a nice run down. There are 3 kite events on the West Coast that I'd like to attend, and this is the first one every year... mostly for the kites & people, but c'mon, that weather, too ! Just to give perspective, as I read this there's 4 inches of new snow outside my window, and it's still snowing.

Yay on getting rid of the knot ! And meeting a group of kiters in your area ? PRICELESS ! You are on your way !

Group video roundtable for subscribers? (monthly)
RobB replied to John Barresi's topic in News from the Webmaster
Sounds interesting... but more than 10 participants ? If that becomes a problem, maybe have 2 separate sessions ? -
oh, the content of the site is working fine. It's just the Sponsor links on the right. Chrome shows HTML code & IE pops up with the download dialog box on the bottom. Both of my screenshots were of this page, same spot, different browsers.

Yes, lines are sold as a set. Keep picking at it, find someone with fingernails... my wife can untie any knot ! I cut my nails really short, and sometimes have trouble with these things. A little fraying is OK, most of my lines are a bit fuzzy after years of flying them. There are a number of people who fly up your way, there must be a kite shop nearby. If not, the Kite Shoppe (forum sponsor) is supposed to make the best linesets around.

With all this said... what about the kite ? Looks like a custom sail, early generation 3d. A Prism collector is going to scoop this one !

Crazy thing, March is known for being pretty windy, and has been, except for when I get a chance to fly. The last two Sundays have been just about dead calm. Nice & warm, almost getting too hot all ready. Oh well, I take what I can get, and light wind flying is one of my favorite flying disciplines. Everything is nice & slow, there's almost too much time to think about what you're doing. It's important to have a 'true SUL' kite for this type of flying. A trick SUL could fly, but it would be a lot of work to keep it in the air, and you really need some amount of wind to do most tricks. 'True SUL' kites are easier to get flying, but really difficult to do many tricks. My favorite, the ProDancer SUL frustrates me because I can really only do one trick, the Axel. Maybe a wonky 1/2 axel, some of the time. Anyway... I got some video that shows a lot of the kite & pilot. I thought it might be interesting to those who like low wind flying, it will certainly be boring to those who like fast-paced tricking, Power Kiting, or Speed Kites !

My newly repaired Full Vent could use a set of these ! I'm in...

The site doesn't seem to be working correctly in either Chrome or Internet Explorer 11. I don't have Firefox on this machine, so don't know about that.

Welcome, Mark... is the knot in the flying lines, or the bridle of the kite ? If it's in the flying lines, an knot will severely reduce the strength of the lines. That being said, it will probably break on a windy day when you're leaning back against the pull of the kite... bam ! next thing you know, you're on your butt, and the kite is doing a million mile an hour death spiral. Been there, done that ! If you can't get it untied, just be ready for that. If you do get into a death spiral, you have to run towards the kite to get it to land. It's not a fun prospect, but it happens, we all have to deal with it eventually.

My worst nightmare... or my credit card's ! Actually, we used to have a local kite store, and I bought one of every sport kite that she sold. Times have changed, kites aren't as popular these days. The kite store is still here, but there are less kites in inventory than I carry in my car. Educational toys are all the rage, or at least that's where the profit is.
