  1. Yeah, the DVD makes it look easy, doesn't it ? Wait until you arrive at the field, and try some of those moves. Poof ! right out of your mind, back to concentrating on just keeping the kite off the ground ! Good Luck !
  2. Put some tails on your Revs ! It takes less than 2 minutes, and puts on a whole new facet to quad line flying. I don't fly tails with 2 line kites too much, but it's kinda fun, too. You just can't do any tricks with a tail...
  3. That's just the way of kite folks, very laid back & I'll get to it tomorrow attitude. Some are better than others, but if you need an answer right away when dealing with kites, call the phone #. Kite flying isn't professional, it's the exact opposite.
  4. I have all the DVDs and VHS tapes... they're fun to watch, but I could NEVER remember what I was supposed to be doing once I got out to the field. Oh, yeah, I was supposed to be having fun, flying a kite. When you try too hard, it's not fun anymore...
  5. I think you have to download the video from the link, JP. When I saw that promo video, I knew I wanted to fly like that. The first step I figured was to get a Sea Devil & start practicing. Well, that was 2006-2007. Still working on it...
  6. I think if a kite just stays in one place, people are less intimidated by it, but if it's zooming around, making noise, they tend to shy away. Plus, when you're flying an SLK, you are just hanging out, and look more approachable than someone furiously tugging on the lines. I've always thought about this, and am interested on other's take on the matter.
  7. Most people that take notice of my kites, dual or quad have the impression that they're powered by a motor. 'Well then, what's that noise ?'... must be a motor... You know, sail buzz... If you fly your quad with tails, people notice & approach. No tails, no interest. I've found the less lines, the more interest. The Single Line kites draw the most bystander interest & comments. I think flying dual & quads requires pretty intense concentration, and people can recognize that, and hesitate to approach to interrupt. And don't forget, to most people now, the most interesting thing in the world is their 'smartphone'. They rarely take the time to look up... Case & Point : a recent video I made @ 5:27
  8. Nick... your recipe is a little light on the spicy stuff. I like horse radish in mine, too. I do 50% clamato, 50% vodka, lotsa tabasco & worcestershire... celery salt, cilantro, dill, red & black pepper & lime. Gets you going on Sunday mornings...
  9. If only my beach had a proper bathroom, I would probably drink a 12 pack while flying ! I limit myself to one trip to the bushes... so Bloody Caesars are the kite flying drink of choice...
  10. If only it were a vented Sea Devil. I have the Sea Devil SUL, Sea Devil light, and Sea Devil std. I only need the two vented versions, now. BTW... the only reason I have Sea Devils is because of your awesome promo videos... my life will be complete if I could learn to fly like that ! still looking forward to an HD version of those videos...
  11. If you didn't buy a cheap quad line kite, why consider a cheap duallie ? The real advantage of a high end kite is that it retains resale value if you don't click with it. A mid grade kite like the Widow NG isn't worth selling if you don't like it. Don't give in to the impulse to gather more kites, obtain good kites that will last you a lifetime. If it turns out you actually don't like them, you could either sell or trade them for something that you do like...
  12. Are you using a wand, Bob ? It makes indoor gliding a lot easier...
  13. Yes, the Ghosts are great kites. Super easy to setup, and have a wide wind range. They don't dive out of the sky when the wind gusts up, like a regular delta. My kids saw the video and wanted to know why I was flying 'their' kites !
  14. So, I got a great first weekend fly for Kite Month. The Sun was out, and the temps were in the 50s. Can't ask for much better than that... oh yeah... wind. Well, that was a little flaky... Maybe 3mph-10mph. At least it wasn't switching direction too badly, within 90 degrees isn't that bad. Here are 2 of the 3 Kitelife Ghost Deltas... And I was trying my best to fly with my left hand & shoot with my right... that needs more work ! A little video too... (Full screeen, HD !)
  15. I need something with 4 lines that will fly in SUL wind. And... I need something that will fly in stoopid wind, too. Sometimes I feel like my full vent is going to blow out !
  16. I'm IN ! Would love to change out my teal vent for a lovely blue one ! The teal one makes a good 'guest' kite, I suppose. I have frequent fliers at my 'kite church', but none of them own their own kites !
  17. Let me know... I am so ready to fly with a real kite enthusiast ! Come before Memorial day, the beaches aren't charging admission until then !
  18. If they're all ready on PhotoBucket, just copy & paste the addresses over here.
  19. You could just type in a text description in the mean time... I could use a few more Revs...
  20. They sound really good to me... I've spent a lot of time learning the inverted hover, and reverse flying, but if these make it easier, sounds worthwhile. That's the reason I fly Revs, anyway, because they're easier and sometimes you just want to relax & fly !
  21. Mark, I hope the wind's there when you have the time to get out !
  22. Just a few shots and a little video of the first flight of Spring 2014. The one special kite of the day was the little square one that has been a wall decoration in my room for the last 5+ years... finally put it in the air ! And there it stayed... pegged to the sky for a few hours. So, a few shots of the SLKs & a little video of them all flying together... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1HfxMuNUgM
  23. I'm sure the ITW Echo is in the same class as the NikNak. From what I hear, it might even be a little lighter.
  24. Hey Robin... Sounds like a great idea to promote Kite Month. I can't wait to see what the winds bring to Long Island this year... hopefully I'll be able to put something together. Here's what I came up with last year... ~Rob.
  25. Just wait until you fly the NikNak. That poor 4d is going to gather dust...
