  1. Hey Scott... it is a Barbara Meyer kite, I'm not sure of the name of the pattern. The tails are from the Gomberg site, chosen to match. The tails on the Rev were just something I had in the bag. My friend thought the full vent Rev was too fast, so I slowed it down for him. Surprising how well a Rev flies with tails... Nick, sorry we stole all your wind !
  2. The wind came back to Long Island, finally. Late summer doldrums seemed to last for weeks. I was getting tired of flying in next-to-nothing wind conditions and poor off-shore winds. Today the wind was a little high, but still had a great time. Today was fun with tails day...
  3. Yeah, Wow... Now that a can control my Rev, I've been wondering what to learn next. Looks like I found it ! BTW... here's a picture from today's flying...
  4. That is CRAZY light... less than 1/2 the weight of my ProDancer. Did you ever get any tricks out of the Spectre ? I remember hearing that you & PAW were working on getting it tuned for some tricks ( I think... ). I can only guess that with the light weight of this one, there aren't any tricks in it... I can barely get an axel & 540 out of my ProDancer.
  5. Winds here recently could really use a kite like this... Fingers crossed ! From NOAA... Sunday Sunny, with a high near 63. Northwest wind 13 to 16 mph.
  6. That's the elusive Prism 'hard case'. It's a great case if you're short on space, you can fit 3 kites, linesets, and accessories. Great for air travel, or when you've got a small car, bicycle, whatever. It's about the size of an arrow quiver, and has a strap to hold it over your shoulder. Here's a pic to give you an idea of size...
  7. I'm in... I gave my golf-ball-stake to another kiter who didn't have one. She had a car full of kites (rolling kite store (kinda like my car)) but no stake. I've been using a big screwdriver that I picked up at a garage sale years ago. (BIG) Kite Stake...
  8. I'm sorry to have to say this, but don't believe any government 'FACTS'. Especially if you heard it on the news... But anyway... it's the right time of year for a holy Rev to come to the NorthEast. We're lacking a B2 at my Sunday flying 'church' !
  9. If you angle the stand-offs in towards the center T, that should hold the lower spreaders in. I've used the rubber band trick on stubborn kites, though...
  10. The Hypnotist comes with 150# 85' lines. I cut the 4D lines from 50' to 30' after the first 5 minutes of flying it. It's too small of a kite for 50s. It also makes it easier to keep in the air in 0-2mph wind. As far as lines for the original kite, I would say 50-60 footers are good for a kite with a 5 foot wingspan. A full sized kite in 5-15mph wind works good on 75'-100' lines. I always fly 75' because my beach is narrow, and I like to try to do tricks. Longer lines make tricks more difficult. With any dual line kite, it is SUPER important to make sure that your lines are even, at least within an inch of each other. Stake them down, stretch them out, and adjust if necessary. It is well worth your time. Finding smooth wind is also worth your time, even if the drive cuts into your fly time. It is way better to only fly for 2 hours in good wind than flying for 4 hours in crappy wind...
  11. I didn't know that there was anywhere in RI that's an hour from the water... You need to get down to Newport on the weekend, drive out to the water, and you'll find others flying. Get a good idea of what you want. I bought a ton of kites, but only really fly 10 of them. You find what you like, and the others never come out of the bag. A Prism kite will give you the best durability in the Quantum & Hypnotist. The 4D is pretty tough for an ultralight, but it's so small that it gets real fast, real quick ! Something like the Skyburner NikNak or HQ Shadow would be good for light winds. The NikNak is only $30 more than the 4D, and well worth it. I bought mine used years ago, and it's still able to fly. The Shadow is a bit more expensive, but if you want to learn some tricks, the Shadow will be a better choice than the NikNak. You'll get tons of suggestions, there's really no wrong answer... as long as it flies, it will be fun. Good luck !
  12. Congrats, JP ! You should find good use for this in the fall. The winds are finally back ! Wahooo !
  13. Maybe next year... I passed on the opportunity to fly with the group at Wildwood this year, and just watched. Watching others fly is a treat for me because I fly solo 99.5% of the time. It's good to see the people fly who know what they're doing !
  14. You're doing exactly what I would do if I won the lottery.
  15. Well, I saw pictures of the scene in the streets about two blocks from ITW, with the water gushing out of a manhole cover 10-15 feet into the air. They're lucky if they don't have any damage over on Pearl St. My sister is in CO, and her husband works for the state water authority. He's going to be really busy in the next couple of months before everything freezes up ! Oh, I'd like to be 'IN', BTW ! Would love a chance to fly something different...
  16. The WM is a little bigger. The Kymera can cut sharp corners like the WM, but it can also trick faster and fly a little wilder than the WM. Picture the difference between an Eldorado and a Mustang...

    E-cigs ? Vaping ?

Nice looking unit. I am having trouble finding a clearomizer or cartomizer that I like for my eGo. I need to find a new supplier, wish there was something local that I could actually see the products before wasting $$$ on them. I've spent good money on pieces that I use once, don't like, and put in a drawer. I guess it's kind of like kiting in that way...
  18. The webbed strap should be good for the load, I use those to tie off to heavy beach debris when my sand anchor is allready occupied by another kite. I did notice the other picture, but couldn't tell if that Carabiner was a heavy one or not. I double them up if I'm worried about the pull. Your kite looks pretty big, and even in 10mph winds, I would imagine that the pull could become dangerous. My approach is usually that of too much caution, but even still, I've gotten myself into a few situations where the outcome could've been disasterous. That's why you might think I'm a little over the top with caution. I did have the opportunity to get yanked around by a REALLY big kite at Wildwood this year, helping one of the handlers get the kite out of unstable winds. Absolutely NUTS... I'm sticking to my small(ish) kites !
  19. Hey Nick, Congratulations on getting that Super Sled up & running... just a word of caution, using that hoop spool under tension is a recipe for disaster. Even though they say 'unbreakable' on them, they aren't actually strong enough to carry the load of a big kite like that. I use a hefty piece of metal (sometimes my shovel handle) to cleat the kite off to the anchor. Also, I use a hefty carabiner, I can't tell if you had a big one in there or not. I love to see what you guys have been doing with your SLKs and KAP. Really gets me in the mood to get mine in the air. They were in my car last weekend, but the wind wasn't with me. Oh, well, maybe next weekend ! Best, ~Rob.
  20. Some pretty impressive flying. Just another kite to add to the long list of kites that I NEED to get my hands on...
  21. Congratulations, I hope your wind starts blowing at a steady 10mph for the next few weeks so you get plenty of opportunity to break in the new kite !

    R2/230

That kite looks insanely fast ! I guess you fly it on short lines ? It looks really small...
  23. I all ready have a mid-vent, but I've got a few people learning to fly up here, and it would be great to get flying side-by-side with some of my 'students'. Right now, I hand off the handles and don't get them back ! Oh well, it's a good opportunity to pick some beach glass !
  24. Really... this drawing is tomorrow all ready ! I can't believe there's not more chatter... I know, everyone's distracted by the PRO offering in a couple of weeks.
  25. Hey Tammy, you should see the kite in the air with the sun behind it ! It really grabs the eye...
