  1. I learned so much today that I'm amazed. I'll be honest and say that even after watching all the videos and getting advice for several of you here it just wasn't clicking. Try as I might, I'd get the kite up a few feet and it would turn left and crash. I was completely discouraged and about to give up on the Rev and stick with my Prism speed foil. Within 15 minutes John had me flying and the three hour class left me with a lot more confidence and totally enthused about flying again. John is an incredibly patient and competent instructor who makes you feel comfortable and explains techniques in language the student can understand. If you ever get the chance to take a class with him do it. It's money and time well spent.
  2. Eat your hearts out kiddies, today I'm getting a 3 hour private lesson from John! I am beyond excited. Maybe I'll actually see my Rev in the air!
  3. I'm thrilled. We are staying at a campground 28 miles away and are due to leave on Monday, the 1st so this is perfect timing. Met John briefly at Seaside last summer when I got hooked on Revs, but have not had any luck getting it up in the air since then.
  4. Where are you going from there? I'm in southeastern Pennsylvania and and will be in colonial Beach, VA after the 1st.
  5. I'm in, I need an extra set of handles and can use the stake holder too.
  6. I'm in northern Indiana right now. Where are you at Craig?
  7. Happy birthday my friend! I hope it's a great one for you. Thank you for all you do the the kite flying community.
  8. Oops, scuse me, I just released some wind. Sorry
  9. Matches my standard colors, it only seems right that I have it, don't you think?
  10. 15 years ago, at age 46, my wife and I sold all our toys and walked away from our workaholic lifestyle, bought an RV and have been traveling fulltime ever since. We make our living publishing the Gypsy Journal RV newspaper and I have 18 books out, including travel books and the Big Lake mystery series. We have never regretted one day of it. We spent last summer on the Pacific NW coast, where we got into kite flying and met JB, we spent this winter in Arizona and in a few weeks we'll start wandering east in search of new adventures. I could not imagine a better way to live.
  11. Congratulations! Enjoy your new kite!
  12. I'm in And thanks for the opportunity
  13. I'm fortunate in that we own our own business. We travel around the country fulltime in a motorhome and publish the Gypsy Journal RV newspaper, and I am an author with 15 books out. So we control our working hours and where we do it. Living in a motorhome means that we don't have room for a lot of extra stuff, which cuts down on impulse purchases. Like Barton's wife, mine is also into the fiber arts and she has a loom, spinning wheel and other toys in the motorhome. So we can go to fiber festivals, kite flying events, or wherever the urge takes us.
  14. Hello and welcome. Unfortunately, your foil is not going to make you happy. I speak from experience. I was introduced to kite flying at the kite festival in Long Beach, WA this past summer when a fellow let me fly his Prism Snapshot 1.9. I immediately bought one and was quite content to fly S curves in the sky. Then, just a couple of days later I met a wonderful member of this forum named Jynx, who said, "Hey little boy, wanna fly my Revolution?" Being the innocent that I was, I said sure. Now I have two Revs as well! But then I saw a kid doing Amazing things with a Prism Quantum delta and I thought…. No, you'll never be happy with just one kite. Or two. Or three….
  15. And I just won his kite stakes last drawing
  16. Well start cheering, Barton, because oldcaptainrusty it is! Congratulations, my friend! Please go to the Buff link on the contest announcement page and let me know the one you want and a shipping address and I'll get it ordered.
  17. As the original poster, I'm sorry my picture upset anybody. I was just trying to show how serious this can be, and hopefully keep others from making my mistake. Since the chemical peel didn't do the whole job, I'm going to be having surgery sometime in the next few days to remove some of the more serious spots.
  18. Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to this, folks. I have a lot of medical issues going on right now. In light of the fact that I have been diagnosed with what looks like it could be extensive squamous cell skin cancer and have surgery scheduled for just after Christmas, Bbailey49 suggested that a Buff would be an appropriate Karma prize. So I am going to award a UV Buff to the winner. Here is a link to the Buff product page and the winner can select the color they want. I will order it and have it sent to you. http://buffusa.com/sports/collections/uv-buff-reg/styles/filter/sun-protection Standard Karma Rules and Guidelines apply: http://kitelife.com/...s-please-read/. The deadline for entering the drawing will be 6PM Pacific Time 1/1/14. Short of a natural disaster or a change in my surgical schedule the winner will be posted by 10PM Pacific Time. Shipping to the lower 48 only. bbailey49 Amexpmh Wayne Dowler Tmadz John Barresi Dragonfish Cerfvoliste mystainedskin oldcaptainrusty Reved
  19. I am scheduled for some long medical procedures all of next week, so it may take me a few days to come up with a prize for the next drawing. I'll try very hard to have it up by this coming weekend.
  20. Very nice! Thank you for your generosity.
  21. Wow, lightning strikes twice. Thanks Cap!
