Yes, hyzakite, I did find the other ferrule on the same center spar was rotating so they are now BOTH epoxied and curing. I know that many here have had success using CA for this repair and that is the fastest repair option. I took the (hopefully) longest lasting approach and used 5 minute, 2 part epoxy as suggested by Capt. Bob. (yes, Bob I bought new epoxy!) I also used Wayne's tip with a wrap of blue painters tape to have a nice clean joint after the epoxy has cured. Prepped the area with all old adhesive sanded and scrapped off and 90% alcohol wipe prior to using the epoxy. Thanks again for all the suggestions and tips!!!

San Diego Rev Clinic (June 7-8, 2014)
northwavesailor replied to John Barresi's topic in Scheduled Events
If anyone is 'on the fence' deciding if they will be joining in JB's Reindeer Games...................you won't be sorry! Let's see..........San Diego.............. June............... 70-80 degrees.............. sunny AND JB??? That's a No Brainer!!! -
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions on adhesive of choice for the ferrule repair. I must admit that the ease of use of the CA, either Zap-a Gap (Steve 808 and Kent from AWOC) or Loctite Super Glue (Wayne Dowler and mystainedskin) is very appealing. I may go the epoxy route as we still have some LE first crashes that pilots of your level do not have, thus our CA repairs may have a higher chance of failure due to these shocks to the leading edge frame sections. Thanks to Makatakam as well for steering me AWAY from the expanding forces of the Gorilla Glue!!! (That is why I asked if anyone had used that product in this application)

I have read some Rev ferrule repair threads. CA (Super Glue) seems be the fast and dirty repair for ferules but it's not flexible and will fail. I have used 100% silicone rubber sealant on another ferrule 're-glue' and it seems to be holding up..................... but not sure if it is a long lasting fix. I suppose time will tell! I want these repairs to last, but don't want to make this my life's work! Has anyone used Gorilla Glue for this application and has it worked? It seems to get great reviews but I have not used it. I also have 3 or 4 'flavors' of 2 part epoxy, but most are several years old. Thanks!

Is it just us, or do other Rev flyers have ferrules that come loose and get pushed into the leading edge center spar? We have 2 fairly new Rev 1.5B kites (1 bought new in October and the second new in March) that have had ferrule come loose and slide inside the center spar. I have read a few threads on what adhesive to use to repair these, but it seems fairly early to have this happen to 2 kites. It's only when setting them up to fly that you realize there is no ferrule there to attach to! Perhaps I'm expecting too much, but it seems like the OEM adhesive should last for a few years before failure.

Saturday evening and Karen wanted to get a shot or 2 with Mt. Hood as a background. We found that kite lines 'snag' on snow and kite stakes don't really hold unless you stomp them into the snow!

OK, so Firefox wouldn't download some tutorials, but Safari did! I now have 15 ready to transfer over to the iPad using Dropbox. Thanks, Harvey!
-
I am using Firefox...........perhaps I should try the other downloads using Safari. Thanks again, Harvey!!!
-
Still a no-go even while holding down the option key.
-
Thanks, harveyt! That will save time trying to download it in both versions! For some reason, I still can not download about 1/3-1/2 of the tutorials in any version using the iMac. I don't know why some download w/o issue and some just go to 'transferring data from Kite Life' and nothing more. Likely something simple. I do, however, love having the ones that we were able to successfully download!

I would like a version on my desktop iMac and also on the iPad to bring along with us. Can I download the Mirrors version for both devices (using dropbox on the iPad) or do I need to download one version for the iMac (Mirrors) and another for the iPad tablet and keep them in 2 seperate folders? I have moved a few tutorials over to iTunes on the iMac but nothing to the iPad at this point.................Man, that's a lot of i's in a post! Thanks, Harveyt!!!

I, for one, would like the Apple specific 'how to' but generic might help out more folks here with Windows OS!

PM sent, thanks -
Thanks to Paul's helpful suggestion, my sick Rev was admitted into the Flying Smiles, Outer Banks Kite Hospital last week. A skillful surgeon, Dr. Eliot Shook, performed the micro surgery on the Kevlar repair/replacement and a mesh renforcement procedure with a great prognosis for future flying time. My thanks to the skilled Dr. Shook!

The KL thread back in 2011 mentioned the end of LPG even though I also see it listed ( and have bought it) at many shops. There is bulk LPG available to save a few $$$, but really don't want to get into the DIY quad line business. Just wondering if Shanti or any other makers had line as good, or perhaps better, than LPG?
-
We are currently using LPG quad line sets,90#, 80'. I have no complaints with LPG, but also nothing to compare it to. Is LPG still the #1 choice for most Rev flyers? I am thinking it might be a good idea to have a backup quad set of line in the bag and though I'd ask the forum members before buying another set. Doing a Google search, I have read that LPG is no longer being made for kite line.................is this true?

12 spots open for March Rev Clinic!
northwavesailor replied to John Barresi's topic in Scheduled Events
We had a great time at 'Long Beach with JB'! A little cool, cloudy, some sun, as well as periods of liquid sunshine, but FAR better than forecast. We are still the 'slow kids at the back of the class', but John gave us lots of things to work on. If you can make it to a clinic with JB, you will not regret it!!! -
