Ian Dobson
Just like to say I think that the are many like me who start to trick with stunt kites that find that the tricks just don’t come so easy but now I have found out I think it is because that we are so tense that we should not hold the straps so tight and it’s become much easier if you just have them hang in your hands but not to lose well that what I have found out the last few days when you lean by yourself little things like this make a big different`s just pass on a little tip maybe it could help someone if the are any easy tips to help people like me let me know
mystainedskin
Thanks Ian.. following you topics closely, especially the specific kite threads, since I just obtained a Quantum myself. The only dualies I have flown were foils.... And a light grip usually doesn't work too well.
RobB
Hey Ian... I agree, learning how to trick a 2 line kite is a lifelong endevour. Some will get it quicker (usually younger people) and some will struggle for years (like me) learning each trick. Because of the fine line management involved, I wrap the straps around my wrists, and manage the lines with the tips of my pointer fingers, as described in the Prism DVD. If you watch the Dodd Gross DVD, you'll notice that he holds the straps loosely. There's no right or wrong way, I suppose, but I like the straps around my wrists in case of a sudden gust. ~Rob.
websherpa
I like loosely holding the straps but I've lost a handle before and ended up with a crashed kite and lines wound around each other several dozen times. Around the wrists with fingers on the lines is a good comprimise but I find it isn't as ergonomically pleasing. Next time I get out I want to try John's shaka style.
Reef Runner
Ever try finger straps............? I use those all the time.............much more sensitive than wrist straps !
West Australian
Finger straps are the way to go for "tricking" duallies. I only use wrist straps on Foils.
RobB
I use finger straps for light wind flying. A full sized kite just pulls too strong for finger straps in 10mph+ wind.
John Barresi
I tend to prefer narrow wrist straps held in three fingers, something about the slight weight of the straps flicking about that feels yummy to me. Really low winds, I wrap the straps around my hands until i can keep an index finger the line. Only in the highest winds do I actually put them on my wrists. Indeed, no right or wrong - try it all, fly what you like, try it all again, repeat.
