shaun413
Hi all, I'm new to the forum and to kiting in general. I'm still in college and most of my money goes to my education, but Id love to try and pick up kiting for a free time activity. I don't know how much id be able to spend, But I certainly cant afford a new one... If anyone has any budget options for a good rev kite for a beginner please let me know! Thanks for your time, I hope ill be able to be flying soon!
Wayne Dowler
It would't hurt to know where you're located. There are plenty of pilots willing to help. Might even find someone with an old, little used kite!! Ask - you'd be surprised!!
shaun413
Oh, I'm located in Central NJ.
Wayne Dowler
There are a bunch of Jersey fliers in the area, you might see about getting together with some of them. Look on the member map, both here and on the Rev forum! They fly at Liberty State Park!
shaun413
Ahh! That's a little over an hour from me, but I may be able to make a trip. I'm just thinking a rev for me is not in the books right now, seems to be too expensive. I was hoping I might be able to make one myself for like 50 dollars, but I learned that is pretty difficult and would cost way more :/

shaun413
I could try that... But I was told lines and spars would cost way more than 50 dollars just for those parts :/ And then the risk of messing something up and wasting my money all together is there too... makatakam
Check E-Bay once or twice a week for used ones. Look for something with lines and handles. Post the listing item number here and experienced flyers can advise you. You can contact E-Bay seller "flt101" about his listings. I have purchased from him before and have been satisfied. I believe he has quite a few Revs available. He may have a beater with lines and handles he can let go cheap. Even with major wear on the sail it should fly well. I have kites that I've been beating on (including learning) for six years and they show the wear but fly just fine.
shaun413
Looked around ebay and couldn't find much for my price range. I dont think I will either, I will leave this for now I suppose and try to get some money together in a few months/years. Thanks!
Wayne Dowler
Still try hooking up with the Jersey group! Might be able to teach you some stuff and maybe have a kite in your price range!! ( no guarantee ) Might not be the end of it, give that a try!!
Paul LaMasters
Yes, don't give up, . . . . call or hang-out with the LSP Crowd. They will loan you a kite while you eat ketchup sandwiches to save your money. If you could get into a REV or make one yourself in your budget NO ONE would fly anything else! The fact is, you can get past the price of admission & they are a hellva' value, literally years of pleasure, alone or with a group. Only an hour away from Liberty State Park?, you have no idea how lucky you are already!
shaun413
OK I will try to contact them. May I ask, do you have any contact info for them? Or a website? Thanks for the help! Oh by the way, that ketchup sandwich thing sounds gross! no way i'm eating that!
