RobB
Not as much flying as I had hoped for this fall... lots of kids birthday parties, school activities, and other social commitments, not to mention that four letter word... WORK. I was lucky enough to get out last weekend for a couple hours and enjoy the good winds. It was around 10mph, down the shoreline, so reasonably smooth. The Mesh Delta floated almost to the ground at times, and almost over-flew to the side at others. The long tail helped. I've been working hard on learning to control the Rev, but now I'm trying to figure out how to fly so it looks nice. I feel like a musician that knows his scales, but I haven't learned any songs yet. Maybe music is what's missing, I only listen to the sound of the wind, waves & birds when I fly.
Wayne Dowler
Sometimes I fly to nature, sometimes to music, depends on my mood! Music can give you a certain rhythm to work with, a back beat so to speak!
mystainedskin
Nice work! I know the feeling of your analogy. I don't fly anywhere near what I did in the past. Just become flat out bored flying by myself all the time. Music definitely helps.....
RobB
You know, I've seen videos of the top pilots flying freestyle & in competition, and the flying looks like it flows, kinda like a dance. I have to study up and figure out that next level of flight. This is one reason I can fly a quad for only an hour or two before getting bored, but I can fly a duallie for 3 or 4 hours before getting to the same point. I wish I had more opportunity to get out and fly... it's getting dark so early (4:30-5:00) now that it really cuts into the typical flying time...

However, one of the pilots I enjoy watching the most is your videos, if that's any consolation to you! Lately boredom has been affecting me as well. I'm all fired up to go fly for a bit and once I get there and set up a couple of kites the enthusiasm starts to diminish pretty quickly. I'm thinking in my case though that it might be at least partially environmental. Not a lot of things to interact with or react to where I've been flying lately. Music has helped some, but I prefer a bit of variety and diversity in my environment. Might be time to find another field to fly, just to add a little spice to things. And people around to talk to and BS with would be cool. I need to find some other fliers around to congregate with. And I hate the time change... Put off flying for a little while the other day to do some other errands earlier in the day that could have been done at anytime. By the time I DID get to fly I only had about an hour before I had to pack it in. Bleh.
RobB
Getting a chance to fly with other people certainly helps, although, there's not as much flying as BS'n. That's a good thing when you don't frequently see others on the field, though. Thanks for enjoying the videos, I enjoy making them, and they help me to see what areas I need to improve on. I watch all the videos I can find, and have for years, and find something to learn from in just about every one. I think that's the great thing about kite flying, there's so much to learn, you'd be lucky to take it all in in a lifetime...
John Barresi
I know about getting bored... One of the main reasons I've spent so much time learning various disciplines from tricks to precision, team to dogstake, extreme conditions to multiple kites, urban flying, etc - keeps it fresh, adds difficulty and keeps me challenged.

I have a dogstake for SLKs, haven't tried it yet for duals & quads... Thanks for the inspriration...

WORK. I hear that. I am at the other end of the spectrum with flying. Only been at it about a year so still plenty to learn. Got in about 90 minutes with my hypnotist yesterday, maybe my longest session in 6 months. That felt great. Almost got one rung of a JL (got all confused during the half-lazy). Would be nice if there were other fliers around. Glad to have the forum to feel connected somehow. Robbie R
Dang Rob, It looks like to me you are really good with your Rev. I hope someday to be able to fly like you do.
RobB
Dang Rob, It looks like to me you are really good with your Rev. I hope someday to be able to fly like you do. Thank you, I'm working on it... I've been spending a lot of flying time on four lines for the last few years. (dual line flying is suffering) I feel like I have the rudiments down, now I'm looking to get the 'flow', so the flying looks like something. Check out that 'Goal Studies' video in the other post... that's where I hope to be in a few more years ! Hopefully we'll end up on the same field sometime in the future. I've been to events at Hammonassett in CT and Newport, RI. Couldn't be too far from you... The Hypnotist is a great kite in the right wind, and will take a severe beating and fly away unharmed. I've been flying for a while, and the crazy thing is how much more I know I have to learn. Well, hopefully I'll have at least 20 more years to get to where I want to be !
